I think more people would play Azir if he actually had more safety in his kit.

tl;dr: Add his knock up back to his E, Shifting Sands, which was removed back in patch 5.14.

Azir as a champion is a cool idea. Ranged melee attacking soldiers focused on zoning. Thing is, that is all he has for the most part. Sure he has his ult, and his tower passive, but those are very situational. Basically he is the Vayne of AP champions in away. It's all in the basic attacks.

That being said, he can be very difficult to control properly and manage mana with, especially for a beginner. You almost have to have 2 minds. One to watch Azir. And one to watch your soldiers. And then have both work together simultaneously to maximize your output. Knowing when Azir's basic attack range ends and the soldier's begins is one thing to get use to too. Practice fixes most of these issues.

But with all of this AA based mechanical zoning stuff, you kind of have a lack of anything else. More or less play the zoning game until one or teammates show up to distract your targets from your soldiers so you can actually start hitting them down. So why not add something to his E, Shifting Sands?

Lets be honest, the collision damage and shielding this ability gives you is very poor for what essentially is used to escape or to just move around the map. A whooping 80-240 point shield with no scaling and 60-180 (+40% AP) collision damage. Basically a light tap and maybe a shield strong enough for an auto or 2 if that. If I need to GTFO, don't drop me directly in front of, and well with in auto attack range of my enemy and hand me a measly 80 point shield saying "well, I hope you can handle this opponent now with enough shielding to defend you from that nasty cannon minion over there". He has to take Barrier just so he can get an actual shield when he needs it.

Everyone knows that you level this ability last, but get a point in it at level 3-4 so you can still get back to lane slightly faster. Funny thing is that this ability actually costs either 100 or 170 mana to use since you have to press at least W first. 170 mana just to move away from a fight or to preposition yourself for a flank.

#So for my idea: I would actually just give his E back its knock up from patch 5.14. For those of you unaware, Azir's E, Shifting Sands, would knock up the first champion it hit prior to the 5.14 patch which removed this aspect.

If I am going to be dumped on an enemy champion's lap with only 80 points of shielding to save me, I should get some time to actually react before that shield simply disappears the moment I take any kind of damage. The knock-up does not have to even be long. 0.75s or 1 second is long enough. Just enough time for me to either flash away or preposition so I can sidestep the next incoming ability.

so a long range, dash that can actually do a full U turn around people if you know how, plus a giant shield that pushes all people as far as humanly possible away from you, while being A RANGED AP marksman, isn't enough safety for you?

Azir has a amazing kit and come late game and he will out DPS anyone, the problem with AZIR is the fact he has such a amazing kit that RIOT is to afraid to even poke him with a stick. For even a minor buff could break him again.

As for your idea to give him back his knock up on E? Honestly i'm against it.

So by letting him sink to the bottom of the shit list, his is being kept in check? Seems like he has a whole lot more issues than you think. I agree, his kit is really cool and come very late game, he deals considerable DPS. But gl ever getting to that late game with his squishy ass, especially now that item 3194 is a thing.

I'm not saying I agree with him being on the bottom of the shit list either. But when a champion has a unhealthy toolkit, that tends to be what happens. Would you rather have a disgustingly over powered champion, or a disgustingly under powered champion? One breaks the game and makes it unfun, the other is simply put into the time out corner until riot can figure out what the problem is.

Honestly I would rather have a better than worse champion if I had to choose. Obviously I would prefer a balanced one overall though. But I think that now with the "tank" changes, he could afford some slight tweaking to be brought back in. Especially with item 3194 blocking a lot of his damage.

I'd play more Azir if he wasn't so hard to play for the reward of playing him vs other champions. i mean, if you are a above average elo ADC main, you should be just fine, but I play Support and Mid lane mages. Which is sad because i do find him fun conceptually.

I feel like the knockup, even just a small one, would be a good addition and, given how people use Azir right now, not gamebreaking at all. But what do I know about balance?

They took away the knockup because he could 100% combo knock up into wall. Kinda like how they took away Gragas E and R.

I think if they buff Azir they should buff his wall duration. 3s means that it is literally JUST a knock back. Within the first 1s-2s the enemy is in the middle of being knock backed. Afterward the enemy is back in control and the phalanx comes down lmfao.

That is another thing the took away from his kit lol

Azir mains know not to put both soldiers out at once, saving a soldier to use as an escape dash which makes him plenty safe. The only people that have difficulties with him are the ones who spam double sand soldiers for enemy poking instead of using 1 sand soldier for csing.

You really don't know why Azir is in the shitter right now? Cause it's not because he's not safe, it's because he was too good with his kit as it was.
