The Death of the echo of Elo Hell... Hopefully

I am personally extremely excited for the ranking system update and changes, I think they're the best way to move from the old ranking system and I do have some parting gifts from the old system. My ranking experience can be described in a 1 on 1 match I had with a player that was in Platinum while I was in Bronze 4. We were playing away, I was ezreal and he was Darius I believe. I was losing in towers destroyed but winning in overall kills. Towards the end he said in chat, "How are you in bronze?" Now I'm not trying to brag don't get me wrong, the point is my actual play was better than where I actually was.

Elo Hell may have not been 100% true. But Legends are born from slivers of truth. After studying my own gameplay from being stuck in bronze, I found out loads more about runes, masteries, strategies, and I practiced alot and I now actually win alot more of my matches.

But I still haven't moved from bronze, this is on purpose.

I don't play bronze anymore solely for the reason that

  1. It requires ungodly amounts of time to have anything to show for your efforts and when you're working full time and going to college full time, you don't have that kind of time sorry its the real life truth, if you disagree then your obviously not old enough or in that age range to know.

  2. It DOES require a bit of luck not getting trolly, salty, toxic, or just flat out bad teammates. But it also goes both ways so it kinda makes up for it, but its still is a double edged sword.

  3. The fact that by winning I move up in my ladder... and have to go up against people not in my league or ladder to continue out of my rank. Lemme explain, the MMR or whatever ranking system is designed to match you with people of your same skill. This would work if there weren't designated ladders and ranks. Like Bronze 3. In Bronze 3 I should only go up against bronze players. If I play like a gold player then I should move up the ladder until someone in my same rank can stop me. Not automatically jump ahead to face people entire leagues ahead of me just so I can get out of my Bronze 3 status.

  4. THE BIGGEST REASON. Ranked isn't fun or rewarding, with the stress of the match, the stress of working for countless hours and getting trilled from winning your series and having to start all over. From losing 30 points in my ladder for one loss and then only gaining 16 for winning. Then after all of those points and more... the biggest reward for hours and hours of dedication, practicing, researching, and executing strategies... is a colored boarded?

Don't get me wrong I love league, and I have been playing for a really long time as a casual player. I've had long breaks in between playing, but I always come back, league is fun and awesome, and I love the changes being made. Hopefully in a few more years we'll have even more maps and modes and champs to have tons of fun with. But the simple fact is that ranking isn't that fun and even if it was, in its current/old state, its also stacked against you to move up. I've seen people go from level 1 to level 30 and then all the way up to Gold 1 or higher. But in order to do it, they literally had to play every single day for 4-5 hours or MORE a day. In fact they played the entire day, like 12 or more hours, to get out of Bronze and silver. I don't have that kind of time to devote to a game. I have a life, a job, college, other stuff I flat out want to do. I play about an hour or so a day and I love the game.

But when it comes to the old system, I don't think I'll be doing ranked until the update comes out and I can try my hand at a more fun and fair looking set up. Hopefully the MMR ranking system is updated...
