Which is the hardest role? Top? Lets talk about it :D

SP Dodgecity··7 votes·32,380 views

So the number one easiest role TOP

Its honestly NOT that hard to go top. Your champ pool is usually extremely tanky bruisers or powerful fighters which can make you a target, but as long as you 1) keep decent map awareness, 2) keep wards up, and 3) don't push your lane as hard as possible. Then you should always be safe,

Lets talk about the other roles.

MID LANE: is probably the second easiest. Its made more difficult simply due to having multiple directions to be ganked, and usually the mid champ pool is a lot scquisher but with more mobility usually/CC to get back to tower if needed

Then there is SUPPORT: A good support actually has a really hard job, they have to keep their laner alive whether they're good or not, they have to farm at the right times, peel at the right times, engage at the perfect times to get a good gank in. AND USUALLY in almost all of my games as an ADC main, bot will get at least two or three 4+man ganks. Then a support has to build correctly to support the entire team and their laner after the laning phase

ADC/Jungle are tied for hardest role for specific reasons. ADC's are like top laners without the toughness. Especially with the new AD heavy meta, adc's are the first target in team fights, They die easy and any assassin that is fed is almost always going to dive on them. ADC's have to pay extra extra attention to positioning and when to stay back and fight whats close or when to try and poke the back line. Anytime i've ever been 2 kills ahead of the other ADC, I instantly receive a camped lane. With 4+man ganks until towers gone. Ask myself or any of my friends, bot lane is the battle grounds for most matches. (in low elo) in higher elo's it changes because players play smarter. ADC's have it tough early game to mid game until they're full built.

Junglers have it really tough because they control most of the early to mid game play. They choose which lanes to gank, which to defend while someone recalls, which to pressure/camp, all the while trying to farm as fast as possible to keep up on level and farm. The champ pool for jungles is a little easier because they're some options that make easier for a Jg'er to make mistakes and get away with it. Which is why ADC and jungler are tied. Not to mention everyone, and I mean EVERYONE is bugging Jglers to help them out. Losing lanes or just lanes in general will beg for help and will blame the jg'er (in low elos usually) for the losing lane.

I feel like this is pretty accurate but let me know what you think :D

Depends on the person. I find jungle to be the hardest. Followed by top, then ADC, then mid, sup easiest.

Other people have other hardest roles. A lot is the workings of each role, some is the champs aimed at each.

St0rmln3 votes

I would have to say jung is still the easiest role. you have the option to avoid a fed opponent and still help the team. you have no direct consequence for your mistakes and can pull a decent game by simply following the few basic steps. Obviously being a fantastic jung is harder but not any harder than being a fantastic anything else.

BluePolarizer7 votes

You don't have that option at all.

If the enemy jungler gets fed in any decent elo (plat+) they'll live in your jungle and unlike laners, you don't get to sit back under tower and soak EXP to hit a power spike. You lose both gold and EXP.

St0rmln1 votes

But getting fed is what separates the better players. I am making the assumption that players are on the same skill level. If they are fed then your doing a poor job jungling, unless your getting fed/feeding and ally too. I am simply saying its easier to avoid doing poorly at jungle then it is to avoid doing poorly in a lane. your lane opponent has a very direct and constant effect on you if they are doing better. Assuming you are warding and watching the location of the other jungled you can dodge this direct and constant effect.

BluePolarizer1 votes

The definition of feeding in the jungle is dying once in your own jungle.

Once you died a single time, you WILL be completely outfarmed and dominated by the enemy jungler if they know what they're doing.

St0rmln1 votes

Unless you know what your doing. It is completely possible to die once in your own jungle and still do great in the game. With that argument I could say the same about laning. If you are doing poorly you probably can't counter jungle (thats true) and maybe not counter gank but you can still farm and bank other lanes. The map is big enough that you can be equally as effective with or without a fed enemy jungle. This is not the case in lanes. I think what it comes down to is how well you can come out of the laning/jungle phase and still be strong for your team.

BluePolarizer2 votes

that's the opponent allowing you to come back. Sure you can farm but if half your jungle is consistently being taken you're going to be multiple levels down and 25-50% poorer than the enemy jungler.

Alex h87211 votes

Not always the case. Granted its in normal but as Jax I have died once, a few times even twice (contesting scuttle, enemy team helps my team doesn't, no followup on a gank etc.) and still am able to farm up and be very relevant mid-late game.

Though arguably that could be b/c Jax shines far more in late game than early or mid.

BluePolarizer1 votes

you aren't playing in high enough elo. The enemy jungler isn't abusing his lead.

If you were in my elo, if you die once, the enemy jungler is going to camp you in your own jungle.

Sirsir1 votes

Disagree. A good jungler wins games outright, and makes life for the enemy junglers hell. If he has any part of your jungle warded he can show up to kill you, and there is no real safety of a tower in most cases.

Junglers have the highest tendency of 'soft feeding', essentially doing nothing but powerfarm (as a jungler that can't carry, like Lee or Rammus) and making the game a 4v5

ADC Support JUN Mid Top

in that order

certain junglers and adc you can almost roll your face across the keyboard and win

SP Dodgecity1 votes

I'd have to disagree, the only champ i know of that you can bash your face into keyboard and get penta kills is Katarina and maybe a few others.

But jungles have to make a lot of impactful decisions and a lot of micro managing. ADC's get focused hard by assassins and are very easy to kill so you always have to have perfect positioning or you're dead

Top is easier for me because all you have to do is ward. Ward and farm. If you get behind, farm only/roam for ganks. If you lose tower, then you can almost always return to lane and free farm cause your opponent is prolly gonna roam after taking tier 1 tower. Or they'll over extend for easy ganks.

TekkenPlayer2 votes

Jungle is the hardest you have to worry about the following things.

  1. When do I farm? When do I gank?
  2. When do I counterjungle?
  3. Do I gank the lane that snowballs or show presence to the lane that is lacking?
  4. Is this objective too risky to go for?
  5. Will I smite on time to successfully contest baron/dragon?
  6. Will baron knock me up so I won't be able to smite?
  7. Should I go tanky or carry heavy build?
  8. Is sated devourer even worth it if I'm planning to gank a lot.
  9. Is that bush warded? Can I really even gank this LB or Zed?
  10. Will I die to the gank?
  11. If I go a flank gank route, will I be there in time?
  12. Is it time to splitpush or constantly teamfight and end the game early?
  13. Shotcalling. Locking carries, etc
IamWindowLicker1 votes

Answers to all your points.

  1. When farms up or when they over extend. Make a good jungle path that leads to gank.
  2. When you are top side and they bot side or dead.
  3. Pressure the fed lane and snowball another. Or get a snowball stared for you team by ganking early.
  4. Are enemies missing? Yes? Then too risky. Are they missing? No? Then no it’s free.
  5. Kill enemy Jungler and then go for objective. Or have greater presence on Barron or Dragon.
  6. No. You can move out of the way, it has a pre knock up animation.
  7. Depends on your team comp/ or enemy team comp.
  8. What are you talking about? Cho’Gath? He infinitely stacks on Drags, Champs, Barron and Rift.
  9. Get a pink ward or oracle lens. Once again pressure lane. You can get their sums that’s still a win.
  10. I hope not it will be a 1 v 2. You should come out on top.
  11. Yes if they are over extended and lane doesn’t push them back and waits for you.
  12. Once again depends on Champion and team comp. Or IF YOU ARE PLAYING A SPLIT PUSHER!
  13. Ok pinging isn’t hard. Telling bot to “be careful” with a ping because enemy Jungle is bot side isn’t hard. Don’t micro manage.

Just do your job and you’ll be fine. You are confusing how important if a role Jungle is versus how hard it is.

Every role is important btw I play every role so chill.

I would have to say mid is by far the hardest role because of the following: jungler awareness, skill shot reliance and dodge reliance. First, once you get to higher elo, mid is always a 2v2 with the enemy jungler and your jungler. You always need to control the wave so that you can play passive and then go aggro when you see the enemy jungler in another lane. Also, you have to do this while trying to dodge the enemy mid laner's attacks. Some examples of these skill shots that HAVE to be dodged are leblanc e, zed q, azir q, yasuo q, twisted fate q, ahri q,e, etcetera. In addition, you have to hit these skill shots yourself so that you at least have a chance of killing the enemy. Also, mobility on the midlaners aren't gankproof. If you were the enemy jungler, of course you wouldn't attack zed when he has w. Since the enemy jungle waits until your mobility or cc skill is used, your point is false. BTW I am a mid main, so I might be biased, but then again, I am an excellent primary source.

Jungle is the next hardest just because of the number of things you have to do. You always need to have vision in jungle so your team can attack without worrying, farm in the jungle as quickly as possible, counter jungle when you need to, and finally gank to feed your laner. Since they need to be everywhere, they have dominant control over the map and the fate of the game can be quickly decided how the jungles in each team play their role.

(My secondary role for ranked is ADC) ADC is not that hard just because of what you do in lane. All you need to do is farm, poke a bit, and all in when your supp decides its the right time. Basically, the supp will carry you. However, if your support is feeding, then you can probably decide for yourself that it is not the best option to go in. You just need to make the right decision: go in or stay, which isn't that hard tbh. Also, farming is really easy as an adc because of your ad. imagine farming as a leblanc or ahri with almost 0 ad and then suddenly farming with vayne passive or jhin critical strikes. It's unbelievable.

Top is braindead and support is even with jungle since you decide the fate of borland and LEAGUE OF LEGENDS IS ALL ABOUT CC. A good immobile effect or group healing in a team fight will be essential in the win or loss of the game.

Sirsir2 votes

Swap mid and support and you have my tier list!

A lot of top right now is essentially who picks the easiest lane. Who has low enough self esteem to pick Quinn top, or Garen, Darius, Renekton, its a battle of the auto-wins. Tops job is to win lane then act like they do something in teamfights. Or splitpush all game.

Support is 2nd because you don't have to commit the brainspace to farming, so you can focus on other things. IMO its harder than top because you have to work directly with another person, and if the two of you don't click things become very difficult (seriously fuck passive Caitlyn players). Plus no one expects you to try to 1v1.

Mid you have to worry about farm, jungle tracking, and not dying to the laner while you're under your tower and they aren't. You're either a playmaking assassin or a champ that has to live through a playmaking assassin.

Junglers basically decide the game. ADC meta? Camp bot. Assassin or mage meta? Camp mid. Bruiser/tank meta? Camp Top. 'Specific champion' meta? Camp for or against that champion. All while keeping track of the enemy jungler to countergank, farming enough not to fall behind, looking for clear opportunities to steal camps, and hoping your braindead bot laners don't shove all game, get camped and then blame you for not diving the Cait/Thresh.

ADCs are the hardest because they can die at any time, no matter how well you play. Head bot alone to clear a wave as a 5/2 adc? The 2/4 zed is there and is now 3/4, for no other reason because he has duskblade and is a Zed. You're also constantly moving, repositioning and clicking. You have to focus on farm, and 4 other players (other AD, both sups and jungles).

DemonBoneJangles1 votes

the only correction id make is the difficulty of top, its a lot harder now than it used to be with the current champ pool normally having %hp true damage built into their kits and the addition of a reshift back to bruiser tops and not full tank tops, shifting the tank role to jungle or support, both of which then are pressured to perform as their intended roles as well as a tank

eve candy1 votes

Probably support xD if your team lose every lane you can't do nothing , also ADC may be the hardest role because you can get one shoted by almost (like all of them...) every assassin in the game and sometimes be really useless in teamfights :d Vayne item 3070

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

Top lane is alot harder than adc or mid lane. You get punished extremely hard for dying once and due to most toplaners being melee it is very easy to get zoned completely from farming. In mid and bot you can (easily) come back after giving up a kill but top lane is basically a statcheck fight so the dude with more gold usually always wins.

Jungle is the hardest imo.

SP Dodgecity1 votes

I see what you're sayin and I agree on some of it but what i would disagree on is that honestly, A top laner can come back pretty easily. In lower elo, the top laner will leave to roam after taking the tower because they'll over extend if they don't. Making it easy for you to chill and free farm.

Plus most top lane champs are already incredibly hard to kill or incredibly strong.

Garen Sion Darius Riven Illaoi Jax Renekton Nasus Shen Tryndamere Volibear MonkeyKing

These guys are always hard to kill and usually require a gank to kill. 1v1 is hard and with the right build and mechanics, you can almost always come back for late game.

But ADC's are stronger this season but they die extremely fast.

If any form of assassin is even remotely fed Katarina Zed Akali etc. They will dive your ADC, and flash away before you can even blink.

That doesnt happen to Nasus for example ahah

Jacknife1 votes

I'd say mid lane is the easiest, just because it's the easiest lane to ward and avoid fights (in the early game at least).

After that it's bot lane because you have someone watching your back (although if your partner doesn't know how to play their role you've pretty much lost).

Top lane then because it's easy to snowball/ get snowballed off of.

Jungle seems like the hardest, just because in order to be a good jungler there's so much to keep track of. Anyone who brings in the right jungler can clear camps, anyone can gank. A good jungler will know when, why and how to gank, and know where to be at the perfect moment to counterjungle/countergank. There's just so much to keep track of it's insane.

SP Dodgecity2 votes

I agree with most of what your saying except for a couple things. Bot may have 2 people but its not even close to easy. Bot lane forces you to work together with your partner well with synergy. If you miss that one step then you and your support lose lane. Bot lane gets the most 4 man ganks cause you'll never ever seen a 4+ man gank top early game and will rarely see it mid lane. Bot lane is the easiest to 4 man gank because jungle and mid just roam down there real fast.

Supporting is actually pretty tough depending on who you play.

Top lane yes and no, top lane goes as easiest for me because its the easiest to avoid ganks from, and its mainly a 1v1 until mid game. If you ward and farm correctly then you almost never have to worry about ganks.

I liked your input though thanks :D

Jungle and support will always be the hardest roles.

Jungle is hardest because it's like playing chess where you must use all your resources, laners and enemies movements to your team's advantage. Nothing is fed to you like lanes who have minions come every "x" seconds. Thus you have to not hesitate and make choices as quickly and effectively as possible

Support is 2nd hardest and easiest because you have to bring your team's effectiveness as much as possible: While not being much for damage reliability yourself(Utility support). While you may have damage you lack the ability to benefit your team meaning they have no fallback or way to stay in a fight (Damage support). While you have to go in and just soak as much as possible believing your team can do something (Tank support). Meaning support is harder the less you can rely on your team.

Mid lane is the 3rd hardest role

Mid and ADC usually can't fall behind and rely on defensive items to stay relevant thus they are harder to recover from a lost lane. Mid is only harder since they have to roam and a mid laner who loses means the other mid has a heavier roaming power which puts alot of pressure on mid lanes.

ADC is 4th hardest only because it does a lot of what the mid/top do but has a support to relieve some of the pain. The only reason someone may think ADC is harder then the others is since it can get pretty boring to farm which means you MUST have patience if you're gonna adc cause not everyone will just slug it out with you and will tend to respect that your champ is stronger thus play safe.

Top lane is easiest only due to they can usually fall back on defensive items to stay relevant if they fall behind. and it's just a slug fest <3.

I love all 5 roles though each feeling easy except adc when the enemy is respectful and plays safe xD

And even if some champs can make a role feel harder it doesn't change that that role is easy/hard it just makes your life a tad more difficult :P

SP Dodgecity2 votes

I have to disagree with a few things here and Ill just use examples to kinda make my points.

Yes ADC's have a support, but not for a luxury its because playing ADC is really difficult, and having a support is a double edged sword, a support/adc can make or break their lane in one death. Because one kill goes to the enemy ADC and you will most likely lose every engage from then on if you don't play extra careful. Especially if you aren't farming well/getting zoned out of farm.

I put ADC high on the list because not only do you have to farm to perfection (like all lanes should) But you have to have masterful positioning or you're dead and usually you'll do some of the most damage the quickest. Plus you're much easier to kill then most other roles

Example: We have Ahri mid, and Caitlyn If Ahri makes a mistake, she can ult away easily, or she can charm and get away, OR she can Q and speed boost away. Yes Ahri can be just as squishy as Caitlyn but AP items like Rod of ages and zhonays can make an AP champ semi tanky with an invulnerability.

But for Caitlyn, if she gets caught out, or is being focused/chased/towerdived/ganked. All She can do is toss out her Net and plant a fortress of traps. Thats it. For an ADC most of the time you have to have perfect decision making, farming, and mechanics to be able to stay alive throughout a match, which most champs already have to do, but in a match, Adc's are almost always the squishest and the most targeted.

Bot lane also gets ganked much more often.

To me Jungle is hardest due to micro managing, quick decision making, and the amount of strategy needed to be successful

Adc is next due to extreme attention to positioning, mechanics needed to survive champs with enormous amounts of engage, and having to also make very important decisions on who to focus. I also don't count support as making it easier or not because a support is not always a blessing. A good support is but a bad support isn't and you have to depend on a random bro to be good every game. If an ADC could build tanky and still do massive damage like they should do then they would be a ranged Darius which I'm sure no one wants. (except adc's XD)

Support is next because its hard to support early game and then to transition correctly to late game supporting

Mid is next because most champs in the Mid champ pool are pretty CC heavy/mobility heavy and can easily get out of ganks, but also include great defensive items that can keep a Mid alive much longer than an ADC or Support.

Top gets easiest because as long as you keep warded and farm smart, you should be safe from any ganks, and its mainly just a casual 1v1 from early-mid game. Most difficult thing is knowing when to TP. Especially because top champs are for the most part, extremely powerful and tanky and can make more mistakes with less consequences.

EcchiOtakuTM1 votes

Meh either way all that matters is Jng being hardest and top being easiest doesn't really matter where adc and mid are since both are close in difficulty.

Support is still 2nd hardest/easiest depending on how well the team makes use of them as I said

Thazin1 votes

The hardest role is top, hands down. Opponents there are hell-bent on standing in your face all the time, never letting you breathe. Hugging the turret is not an option as they seem to be immune to turret damage and can dive you no problemo.

Jungle imo.

I find its Jungle, top, support, mid, adc

Riþtide1 votes

I think that support is hardest for a few reasons, one even if the ADC is complete garbage you are still held responsible to keep them alive if the Trist is low and jumps in and ults (for example) you are held responsible to try to save them, because for some reason ITS ALWAYS THE SUPPORTS FAULT and you have to try not to kill steal, and even if you play extremely good no one but maybe the ADC honours the support.

MachineGnarKelly1 votes

In my opinion when after you get to a high enough level of play, all roles are equally hard for different reasons. ADC needs perfect mechanics and positioning. SUPPORT needs perfect game knoweldge it's like the brain of the team. JG needs to be good at improvising and have good jugdement. MID is lane is all about control. Surely MID is huge on mechanics but what makes a good MID in my opinion is controlling the pace of the game. And finally TOP is about being quite good to all of the above, being versatile. You can argue that in TOP you can just pick a braindead tank but no TOP-main climbs playing tanks. I will expand a little bit on TOP because I happen to main it and it's also considered by many people as an easy role. TOP's difficulty lies first of all at how little impact it has and how punishing it is. It has the hardest laning phase to master simply because on TOP champion variety is huge(mages, fighters, tanks, assassins, even a few adcs from time to time). Not only that but top lane is usually two melee champions. Meaning trading is constant, bad matchups are very abusive just because to even farm you must stand close to each other unlike mid where being safe is easier due to range, minion control/damage has a huge role, lane is very lenghty which means it's easy to die to ganks and you lose a lot for dying since waves can stack up pretty quick and you can also lose tower faster since most top lane champs are ad/as based unlike mid again where Le Blanc can one shot you, but she takes 3 hours to break the tower. Also it is a lane constantly forgotten by Junglers which means if you in a bad matchup you ain't getting any help any time soon. All of these makes a lane that is already very isolated, very hard to have impact. Just because making a bad tp/rotate/invade, can cost you the lane. So it requires a good amount of decision making. Should I tp? Should I split push? When do I engage? When do I go for the backline? When do I peel for my carries? That's why although ADCs require intense mechanics and reactions, they don't really need to do any strategic thinking. In addition along with jungle and support top has the duty of team comp. Meaning if the team needs tank, these roles has to fulfill the role. If MID picks Zed, top will have to pick ap not the adc or something. Same goes for itemisation(building damage/tankiness or utility doesn't really affect roles like adc/mid where builds are kinda braindead. In conclusion TOP is hard role because of the versatility it needs, the punishing lane phase it has and how hard it is to have equal impact as other roles especially in higher elo.

TheDankDuck1 votes

I honestly think support is the easiest. If your ADC is good, you just try to stay alive. Additionally, support is the only person on the team who doesn't have to farm making it an easy escape for people who don't know how to Cs.
