Why? I think Maokai is a really healthy tank but he probably needs some more tankiness.

God, no he doesn't. Toplane Maokai's whole thing is being unkillable and having passive sustain that he doesn't actually need to work to keep using. He's an unmovable stump who occasionally gets kills via ganks, and then shows up in teamfights and is unkillable there.

You mean having to cast abilities to heal? That's basically trading mana for health, being unkillable isn't maokais thing, it's a tank think, BotrK and armour pen exists for a reason

okay then, what top lane champ doesn't cast skills against him? and his own spellcasts work for it. if the opponent has cast a skill 2x, he can use his 3 primary abilities, be in range to auto attack, receive a heal and voila

It really depends. Vs a ranged top like Vayne or Quinn, he can't heal as much and will still take a lot of damage unless he uses extra mana he wouldn't normally spend. Vs Darius or Pantheon? He basically just casts 1 spell himself before his passive is up again.

I think at this point pantheon is better as a jungler. he only has that kill potential when he can surprise the opponent, which is what his kit is made for

quinn is fairly rare for some reason...you'd think people would be dying to have another ADC position besides bottom lane

vayne is also surprisingly rare in this tank meta, quite probably because of the less than optimal early game
