Would it be better if it gave 100 ap and just the dash instead of rockets? It just looks weird the way the rocket fire. It would look a lot better with just the dash which is what most mages use it for.
Maybe then they can add the multi rock hit to another item such as 
and increase the damage per rocket hit.

Backup4now3 votesThe rockets were there to make the dash best used for going in, since otherwise it would very often be taken on mages just for self-peel. However, since Riot made the dash range so god damn short, it was literally only used for the insane point-blank rocket damage, which is now nerfed. You may want just a dash with lots of AP, but what Riot wants from the item doesn't allow that approach.

Give it to mages who need to be in the middle of the enemy team but struggle to find ways to do so like Kennen (who turned out to not need that so much after all) and Galio. After the dash you would be grounded for 1.5 seconds so champions like LeBlanc or Fizz couldn't just take it and be impossible to catch.

That sound like a good trade off. Or if you use a dash, before activating protobelt, it goes on a 3 second cooldown.
