due to a complete idoit teammate who has no idea how to play.. oh well it happens.. its one game.. so after the game i go and try to add him to my block list. and i cant... because he was already on my block list.... WHY the bloody freaking hell am i getting placed to a ranked match with someone who is already on my block list?

what is the POINT of blocking a player if it matches me with them again anyways

Eventually, bad players wouldn't be able to be in any more games because everyone would block them.

Because then players who are terrible and ruin games would eventually be blocked by everyone, leading to a decline in verbal harassment which would prove what the community has said all along, and riot cant have that.

Did you ignore all the previous posts about why it would be a bad idea? Why would Riot want players to be toxic and verbally harass others? That idea wouldn't work because it would be easily exploitable to block players you don't want to play against or with.

It's meant to remove verbal harassment, not filter people's skill. What we really need is the return of the Tribunal so toxic players can be held accountable to the community again.

And they removed tribunal to replace it with ban waves to players who have certain keywords in their vocabulary or who get mad after getting trolled.

Players currently have NO options when they are trolled and cannot even ensure they arent trolled by the exact same player the very next game. what they do know, however, is that if they dare say anything that can even be construed as negative towards them, they will get punished.

I guess you're right though, system works great because any alternative could be abused.

Or if you want actual solutions. You simply limit the number of players a person can block based on division tier. It isnt complex. "oh, master players could block out all their competition" ok, just make it so master players cannot do that in giving them less block options, how is that complex? (especially since players in that high of rank cant actually be trolling very often anyway) I swear, Riot and half the community makes nonsense excuses for beneficial features just so they dont have to do 5 min of thinking.

I never said the current system worked great. I actually agreed with you. However, the answer is not being able to select who you do and do not play with.

We have a solution, you can report them and move on. As I said earlier, I would love to have the community more involved in dealing with these players as opposed to the more automated system that we have now. Personally, I think with summer vacation starting the level of trolls and toxicity has increased dramatically and I'd love to be able to have a more active role in dealing with this.

Would like to see what some people have to say about this.

In higher elo you would be able to remove potential competition by simply blocking them. That's the reason I have heard every time this thing is brought up.

i don't care if the ENEMY team gets them, i just don't want them on MY team.

Pæan19 votes

I understand yhat, but the concept would still stand if you were to, say, block that noob on your team so you are more likely to get better teammates. Just look up people in your MMR with low winrate and start blocking them.

I've had the same issue with jerks I blocked in dominion. Thankfully they remained muted but my team and the enemy team complained about the Garen quite a bit and I checked my block list and there he was.

So, it's rough and almost every idea I've heard has some sort of drawback

OyddAWqJ5r4 votes

Then again, that way you are essentially categorizing the noobs into one team and letting them drop together :)

No free rides kiddos.

All Day Tay Tay2 votes

so what does blocking do. just auto mute them?

Pæan3 votes

That's what it seemed like. And it prevents them from sending game/friend invites.

Zenthon Prime2 votes

What if the "block means they can't be on my team" concept only works for Gold and below?

Pæan2 votes

If there is a hard cap I imagine that might be fine, but if there isn't, then eventually that butt-hurt kid that we all get paired with from time to time will have blocked over half the community and have 20 min plus queue times. Not that I am complaining :D

Also would have to completely redo the matchmaking system, which is actually extremely good at making balanced games believe it or not.

Gurt196 votes

Yeah that's pretty ridiculous. You should not have to be paired with someone you cannot play with.

I would say the block list should have a limit say a total of 50 players you can add. These are all players you NEVER have to play with again, but you can play against them. 50 is a good number for the fact if there was unlimited. Players could just block all the noobs they want and have all the skilled on their team all the time.

I actually think this is a really good idea. Idk if 50 is a good number or not, but it's pretty nice.

If players in challenger and master could block 50 people they didn't want to play with there would never be another queue because everybody would be blocked somehow against everybody else. There is a tiny tiny pool of players up there.

And who even knows how complex the system would have to be to simply allow less players to be blocked for higher tier players. Oh wait, that isnt very complex at all.....

Block is only for communication nothing else.

RoyaiChaos3 votes

The block feature isn't for skill, it's for toxicity.

Else people would start using block list to black list people and create more favorable queues. Think of diamond. They just block every good player and then they get to challenger, then block all players except bronze ones and just play against bronze players while in challenger or any elo actually.

Seriously you idea is a terrible one.

WeFlyNoLie3 votes

This happened to me a while back. (and it was a week or two after I originally blocked the person, because I recognized the name at first)

I wondered why this person never said anything the entire game. (even when spoken to)

We won the game and everybody was pleasant through the entire game.

At the end of the match, I noticed the person was blocked. I looked at my block list and sure enough he/she was on there.

I don't know what he said to my other teammates, but none of their responses indicated he was being rude.

Simply put, people can reform. Some people have bad days/games.

ElJanitorFrank2 votes

Blocking is essentially the same as muting, isn't it?

And what if everyone in a high enough elo just blocked a bunch of pros? They would simply be un able to play, maybe 1 or 2 matches a day or something.

Lulu Magica2 votes

You block people for not playing well? I only block people when they spend the whole game trying to make people feel like crap/being verbally abusive. You sound kinda like one of those.

thePandev2 votes

While I agree with you, it could have been you making this thread in that case.

The point behind the thread is still kind of alarming though, wouldn't want to spend another game with a blocked player

ThaPizzaMan1 votes

I suppose you could use the block list to dodge matches.

3zD2Gw5T4M1 votes

Well if you think about it in a logical sense, you can potentially block most of the people you encounter with, assuming block list is infinite. That in higher elos, especially challenger, will be impossible to pair you up against anyone. Also, in addition to that match making system takes into account for x number of players in x time period and x elo. That doesn't leave much from the already limiting pool to choose from...

this

because it would lead to exploits.

I know this thread is about block lists but being terrible at the game does not equal being toxic. I don't know why people think blocking inexperienced players will allow their game to be toxic free. To be honest, I'd rather have an inexperienced player on my team rather than a toxic piece of shit.

DirkTarTar1 votes

that sucks, good point, but I feel that dealing with scrubs, drunks, stoners, afk's, DC's, trolls, and all sorts of mayhem is just part of the learning curve of League of Legends.

Would take one hell of a coding algorithm to check everyone's bans lists pre games. What if you have him blocked but someone else doesn't? What if said player is on someone's friends list and on your blocked list? Tons of possibilities with a 5 on 5 game.

iainB851 votes

It would be highly abusable if you could simply block someone and never have to play with them again. It'd also wreak havoc on the match making system trying to make things even.

That being said, I wouldn't mind match making doing a small clause of blocking that person from match making for the next hour. I've had multiple cases where I blocked a toxic player and queued up again, and got them the very next game and in champ select (because mute doesn't work there for whatever reason) they say they are going to troll again because that's either what they normally do, or they are just pissed off.

Reslust1 votes

I might be wrong, but I heard that if you report a player for "Unskilled Player", you won't be matched with that player again. Correct me if I'm wrong.

true but think. did you give up?
