Tower Buff : Sterak's Bulwark

In the past, towers had interesting mechanics to make them more defensible (the ally regenerating shield namely). This turned out to be something that prolonged games a bit too much. I personally think that the issue was that it worked on a permanant basis.

My idea, to make towers not fall like dominoes, is to give towers a item 3053 Sterak's type enhancement where:

"Upon taking 1500 damage within 10 seconds, this tower is shielded for 500 damage and gains 100% attack speed for 7 seconds."

This change would do nothing in prolonged sieges, but in the case that a team is aced, it should help prevent the other team from killing 4+ towers before respawn. This change would also encourage split pushing to prevent too much damage stacking on any single tower.

Yes, yes, yes, yes.

Riot claimed they don't want games lasting for ridiculously long times so they've continuously nerfed Towers into oblivion. You don't have to wait until mid-game or even for the laning-phase to finish to kill them now. It's stupid, how just about two or three tower waves along with consistent pressure from the laner can destroy a tower before the 10-minute mark sometimes. So YES to this!

Towers have only been buffed since the game was released, apart from the nexus and inhib turrets changing from laser turrets to shots turrets. Apart from that, they have only been buffed, so can't really say that towers have been nerfed into oblivion.

I dont think towers have been changed too much (net), but consider the environment around them. Zz'rot is a thing. Banner is a thing. AP converted to magic damage vs towers. Ziggs satchel charge. Jinx, Tristana, damage creep in general. Oh, and Baron! And last, but not least, first tower blood. All of these things have led to towers feeling very lackluster.

Your statement isn't wrong though. They havent been nerfed a ton I dont believe.... Theyre just.... Outdated.

I agree that the damage has increased a lot faster than the turrets can keep up, but they actually have had extensive buffs (around 10 I think, not too sure about the exact number). I see where you're coming from, but turrets the way riot sees them are just there to deter early game dives and 2v2 or 3v2 dives. When 4 people dive, they usually have a wave set up so the minions start tanking the damage. If you manipulate the wave well (or get lucky at lower elos), you can get away with getting a double, the turret and a dragon (although that is very rare since by the time you take one objective, the enemy team is up early game and will contest the next one).

There were a lot of.... Changes.... But looking through the tower history on lolwikia, youll find that many buffs were reverted or came with buffs to tower destruction. It is hard to say if the net result has been a buff for towers.

As for their role, I agree to an extent that they are there to deter early dives. I think the outer turrets do this job fine up until about level 4. Past then, I really feel that towers are.... Unimpressive. Sure, if you play poorly they will still kill you (Ive gotten countless kills playing around my tower), but once you get up to the inhibitor towers, they dont feel impactful to me. At this point, raw damage doesnt help and I wish that there were more to them. This goes doubly so for Nexus towers. They might as well give the nexus double health and a small laser.

Idk, I get that Riot wants them to fall off, but I dont want them feeling useless. I support the idea of a middle of base power generator that makes all towers really good until it is destroyed. XD

Just for clarification: I am not trying to keep them from being destroyed during the laning phase or mid-game. I simply think that a 4 man gank bot lane for a double kill plus dragon is quite enough to gain an advantage. There is no need for a tower to go down at the same time. I think that proper wave control and prolonged tower damage should remain a viable way to kill towers early on.

Plays Nasus Tower? You mean stacks

Hits tower too hard Tower gains a shield and starts machine gun firing at dog

SlntReaper1 votes

I am full armor nasus You have no power here

AHarmlessTaco1 votes

Oh nuuuuuuu. Lol i was actually thinking maybe the tower could fire normally during its shielding buff, but additionally gain a dot laser for a few seconds (that inhib towers had) and have that laser deal magic damage. Would be a real neat change.

I think what it needs is more Armor pen in addition to what you said in OP. so those tanks cant just dive tower

Lethality assassin towers activate!

SlntReaper2 votes

So the towers are lethal! i dont regret it at all

AHarmlessTaco2 votes

Lol. Only if the narrator yells "fatality" when the tower kills you.

200% AS is more like it. Towers' AS is too low already.

EDIT: And let the turret focus the champion doing the most damage to it.

AHarmlessTaco1 votes

Aye, might as well. Or just throw on the laser they removed from inhib towers. I could dig a magic laser with pulsing physical shots. Could look like the death star beam.

AninLegions7771 votes

Yeah lasers are good. Or make turrets deal 50% physical and 50% Magical dmg just like corki making it so that tanks have to stack MR too.

AHarmlessTaco1 votes

Would be okay with that if the bullet color changed.

True.
