Demolish & Ohmwrecker

So, maybe this idea has crossed people's minds, maybe not.... but Font of Life and Shield Bash, in my experience, are vastly outclassed by Demolish. Frankly, I see Demolish as an extremely strong rune possibly worthy of being a keystone rune (not complaining or saying its OP). Maybe I am wrong, but I think it could actually be worked into Ohmwrecker both as a means of retaining the item's general flavor and to slightly offset the immediate accessibility that people have (what I consider) to be a very powerful effect. Point Runner is a very cool effect and it is on an item that provides armor and health regen, both valuable stats in the early game. Combined with wanting to have access to Demolish sooner than later, considering there are more towers early on, I think this provides even more reasonable argument as to why this should be considered.

Even with its current stats, I don't think this looked entirely unreasonable as a first item:

Ohmwrecker item 3056 +50 armor +10% cooldown reduction +300 health +150% base health regeneration UNIQUE PASSIVE – POINT RUNNER: Builds up to 20% bonus movement speed over 2 seconds while near turrets, fallen turrets and Void Gates. UNIQUE PASSIVE: You generate stacks on enemy structures within 600 units, up to 6 after 3 seconds. Your next attack versus a structure with 6 stacks deals 100 (+ 30% of your maximum health) bonus physical damage. Demolish will only go on cooldown (45s) upon triggering the damage. Stacks fall off slowly if you move out of range.

I see it as comparable to Zz'rot Portal item 3512 for champions who perhaps want to play more cautiously under their own tower and wait for a gank, then proceed to get some major tower damage after a successful gank from their jungler. Shen really comes to mind, but honestly anyone playing from behind but ultimately wants to split push seems like a decent candidate. Something to mull over I guess.

interesting idea. I like it actually. The problem with Demolish right now is

  • because of turret plating, taking demolish is free gold if you can get it off.
  • Font of life is literally useless as a top laner. Why give up early gold potential, and push power through out the game for a rune that is useless in lane.
  • Shield bash is decent, but if you have no shields in your kit then it is useless early game top. Even late game shield bash every 2 minutes when your braum uses his locket still feels really weak.

The too other keystones are pretty lacking in comparison. I would love to see ohmwrecker buffed and a different option added for a rune alongside shield bash and font of life. Or at least see a major buff to the two other options.

I agree, Demolish seems like a really odd rune to have available right off the bat considering the addition of turret plating. It kind of circumvents the whole "towers should be harder to destroy early on" thing by allowing a winning lane to deal a huge chunk of damage and get extra gold for really no drawbacks. The "IF you can get it off clause" is the main thing, but the other two are also pretty iffy when it comes to reliability and, frankly, the reward for triggering either. It's fine with them being runes and all, but it cuts a lot into your 'choices'.

I actually really like this.

It would let towers survive for longer during the laning phase, fixing the problem of champions snowballing too hard off of tower plating, whilst making Ohmwrecker actually useful (and also make it fit with the name, as you'd actually be "wrecking" something).

Inb4 we see 5 man Ohmwrecker builds though that just demolish (pun not intended) towers in one push.

That is where honestly a lot of my concern with Demolish lies actually, in that it undermines the concept of having turret plating to protect turrets early game and being rewarded for dealing damage to them. It provides a sort of gimmicky way to circumvent and even abuse turret plating as just a way to make some extra gold for lanes that are already winning.

Frankly, I see it being a LOT more likely that a whole team would run the Resolve tree for Demolish than rush an item with its effect. ADCs are just as well off getting more AD to damage towers (or RFC?) and since mages deal bonus damage to towers based on their AP, I really don't think they would want to get it either. They would be just as well off getting Lich Bane.

as a shen main , I do agree with this , since when my enemy toplaner takes demolish , and I go for an ult , my turret goes down faster than speed of light . not no mention that the whole (tower plating has already set up shen as the worst toplaner in this meta , adding to it versing a nasus , yorick , jax .. with demolish , I don't know why RIOT doesn't see how this is unfavouring shen as a viable toplaner.

In all honesty, I totally see what you're saying, but RIOT would likely appreciate something like that that can hit Shen specifically for using his ult since his ult is the entire reason his kit is kept poor at the pro level. I'm not saying I agree, but that might have been partly why he received a buff actually. Patch 9.6 ..... 3 days ago:

Shen Giving Shen some power to better battle it out in top lane. Q - Twilight Assault ON-HIT DAMAGE 5/10/15/20/25/30 (levels 1/4/7/10/13/16) ⇒ 10/16/22/28/34/40 (levels 1/4/7/10/13/16)

That said, I still think it is distasteful as a rune because it does allow for towers to go down much faster in the few early levels that a champion might be getting bullied. At least towers aren't made of paper anymore though! They used to suck and go down much faster.

I like the idea.

And replace demolish with a rune that doesn't require massive defensive investments to be relevant. Ever since they moved Second Wind and Bone Plating into the same row there isn't really a good Resolve Secondary set

Thanksss. You should try Unflinching! It might not seem great at first, but 20% tenacity and slow resistance when your summs are on cooldown can be really useful against champions with slows since it not only reduces the slow but its duration as well. Coupled with Legend Tenacity and/or Mercury Treads, the difference becomes noticeable.
