I actually think Gnar is one of the best designed champions riot has ever made
I remember when he was released, I actually thought he'd suck due to his short range in Mini Gnar and his inability to control his transformation. And in truth, outside of competitive play he's never really been that good. But that's not really the point I'm trying to make..
When I look at Gnar, I see a champion with several tools to make plays, to trade in lane, to have interesting decisions in lane and he's awarded several spells with cool potential but he has no control over when he can use them - it builds up sure, but it's not bland like Jayce, Nid or Elise who just get ridiculous raw power by having 6 spells.
Every single thing Gnar does has room to be outplayed. Mini Gnar is a terror to melees, while melees don't fear Mega Gnar and Mega Gnar is a terror to squishy ranged while they don't fear Mini gnar. Every point of Gnars kit has a weakness and it also has incredible reward potential. And when you consider his design, I think given his risk/reward and the constant opportunities his opponents are left to outplay him, Gnar is one of the best champions you've ever done.
He might be annoying, he might have annoying synergy with frozen mallet but every champion is annoying when they're half decent. And even when he completes frozen mallet, he's still prone to exploding on contact in mini Gnar.
Honestly I wish more champions were designed the way Gnar is, because some of your newer champions (cough Fiora rework cough) leave you with absolutely no counterplay whatsoever if she's played correctly - thank god most people suck with her.
come to mind tbh
Shoo Shoo PADA
, ranged DPS brusier
, mobility
, safety
and really powerful CC
Not to mention he is one of the very few champions to actually rush
