Dear Riot, i havent stopped watching LCS becuase there isn't "enough damage"

SwiftKitten88··71 votes·14,795 views

i stopped watching LCS because there TOO MUCH DAMAGE.

it is BORING to watch when the players are so scared of getting 1-shot they never get near each other.

i want to watch the pro players TRADE in lane i want to learn how to get BETTER. i don't want to watch them "CS" for 30 min because if u are out of position for a 10th of a second u get jumped on and 1 shot.

the only thing i watch are the "highlights" from youtube videos because the match itself is SO BORING because damage is so high the teams will never ENGAGE.

its not "flashing 1 shots" people want to see we want to see the players FIGHT EACHOTHER.

AND THEIR NOT DOING THAT.

because burst damage is so high one slight mess up will cost your team the game

and when they do finally fight damage is so high that it is over within seconds.

there is no "disengage and re-engage"

its either.. you die or your forced to back, there is no "trading" at all

THAT'S WHY IT'S NOT FUN TO WATCH!!!! and why its even LESS fun to PLAY.

you need lower the damage so player can actually TRADE in lane without being instantly killed or barely surviving an forced to back. then not only will u get more people WATCHING LCS.. you will get more people PLAYING the game.

See, when i see a long fight executed properly i'm like "GodDAMN they outplayed the enemy" because there's reaction time and counterattacks and shit

When i see a short fight executed properly i think "lmao fucking 5man ball of death that's lame"

i want to be able to see the champs hitting MULTIPLE CONSECUTIVE SKILLS, and dodging and out-juking the enemy. i dont just wanna see "BOOM. Okay thats the game bye everyone"

Watch China and Korea play, much better playstyles.

NA don't even know proper team comps and have poor support players.

Also our Ranked is just comical trolling, so we will never see "good" players selected for good teams. Because ranked is a joke

What is this fetish NA LoL has with Koreans being our overlords? In SSBM we're the best and no one else is nearly as good as us except maybe Sweden. Why do we insist on sucking at this game?

I think korea has the biggest player base.

I think korea has the biggest player base.

lol and how are u calculating that?

Are korean better at the game? of course they are.. they get to play on less than 10 ms ping. while the i play at 70. and that's certainly NOT the ONLY reason.

and im sure a higher % of korean people plan leage than US citizens do

but the us has well over 6x the amount of people korea does

even if 12% of every person alive in korea did only 2% of the US would need to for there to ne more NA players.... and that completely ignoring that canada is part of NA as well and they add another half of korea so thats OVER 6.5 potential NA players for every 1 potential korean player

so for every 13 people who play league in korea a mere 2 NA player.

now for all i know there could be 20 KR players to every 1 NA player.

but i HIGHLY doubt that.

btw does ne1 know how NA pro's the pro's can stream from the korean server?

because i thought u had to have a Korean SSN to play there. or does that not apply to the pro's

PS, i learned that california alone has a higher population than all of canada*[sg-lux-2]*

I don't think you watch pro play with this analysis.

You may want to reread my first sentence. as i clearly stated "i stopped watching it" and then i stated WHY i stopped watching it, again, in the FIRST sentence. and judging by the teamfights and picks i see from people like "Synapse" and "Machinima realm" and "ifunzio".(which i do still watch) nothing has changed i sine i decided to stop watching.

and i do drop in from time to time now and then.. but not like hours on end and staying up to midnight to watch worlds live. because I DID THAT. and i certainly would even consider doing that anymore.

chipndip18 votes

Well if you're just watching one pick or highlight, that isn't representative of all pro play matches. Just as there are short, bursty fights and picks, there's also more drawn out encounters. I'm not going to pretend like you give a shit, though. You're only using pro play as a way to complain about solo queue.

that is complete bullshit, i used to LOVE watching LCS, especially during seasons 4-6, when they were playing my main Nidalee.

i had actually hoped to watch to see where i could improve, ( i had over 1000 games on her at that time there wasn't much left for me to learn about her beyond watching the actual masters of the game) but sadly, the only real "difference" i saw was the teamwork. which i couldn't rely on. and that they could kite the jungle much better than i could. they didn'y really show much of the jungle pathing because it were more focused on watching the laners.

yes i do think this would improve solo play as well. but thats not what THIS this is about

i did get a bit more than slightly annoyed at the rek'sai spam in season 5 and 6 and how they ruined her for me becuase i used to love to play her.

and i was pissed at riot for the MASSIVE nerfs they gave her AFTER the worlds patch in 6.21.

but to say i "didnt use to watch lcs" and didn't love to do is is flat out wrong. i DID.

i watched from a hotel room while driving cross country from arizona to michigan the worlds finals as SKT lost.

i LOVED watching lcs... and its BORING now

and yes i never did watch LCK outside of them worlds finals and semifinals ( becuase u know its always korea there XD)

i watch US and EU.

Well you aren't watching matches RIGHT NOW because what I said referred to RIGHT NOW.

I don't watch pros because they don't play champs I'm interested in, either, so I'm in the same boat as you, but it's not because fights are too bursty in pro games. Pros ALWAYS play smart and calculated because that's how you're SUPPOSED to play competitive games. You think they're gonna go for low chance dives and all-ins because "ecks dee" when there's MONEY on the line? No amount of lowering damage is going to make someone play worse.

Really reevaluate what your stance is and what you're directing it at. You're just using pros to complain about solo queue.

i only stopped watching this year.

i had noticed damage creep was getting pretty absurd by the end of season 7 compared t previous years. (which i also experienced while playing)

and by the tim ethe new runes hit. although they DID completly save my main Nidalee from a 44% winrate trash teir. (which is the only real reason why i didn't completely hate them from the start)

the totally exponded mroe upon the already damage creep

i will say they did "mostly" fix ADC but then they flat out UNDID most of that work at lower frontloaded burst by adding item 3095.

not matter how many steps forward they take they just have to add something to ruin it again.

the fact of the matter is... i no longer fun it FUN to watch. and i described why in my OP. and after watching 2 of my mains get destroyed because of pro play when both were not an issue outside the top 2% of players. didnt help that matter much either

but even so i came batch and watched season 7.

and i will likely watch the worlds finals and or semi finals.. but i haven't been paying much attention this year.

i an not useing pro play to complain about solo play. i dont need to i complain about solo play enough already. i dont need another reason to. there are plenty of reason to.

what i am addressing in this thread is riot's seemly need to feel that they need to "make people die faster" in order to get people to watch.

i dont watch .2 second flashy instakill plays

i want to watch plays were the opponent can react.. where they can outplay.

i loved watching outplays from champs like Ahri in lcs becuase those are entertaining to watch.

watcing somone get 1 shot from 2 screen away by Zoe is NOT fun to watch. becuase all it does is demonstrate how bullshit it is.

they also removed "trackers knife" becuase it allowed the pros not to facecheck bushes

when at the same time that change also screwed over the lower elo player who CAN'T rely on thier teammates to ward and why was this done? becuase they wanted to see more pmore fights happen

but that it that end up doing? it make people take even LESS risks. making it even MORE boring

riot seems to think that by removing vision and by upping damage they will get more "flashy plays" to get people to watch.

when in fact is that is PRECISELY THEM DOING THAT is that is STOPPING players like myself from watching

all the famous plays

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPCfoCVCx3U

it wasn't a instagib 1 shot

Xpeke wasnt him going in and 1-2 shotting the nexus

D357R0Y3R3 votes

your thread was shit because you insisted on "flashy plays uhuu!!!" when watching pro play is about learning macro

if you're not interesting into watching pro play it's fine and you don't need to make an essay about it but do not fucking stereotype the thing I watch chess pro play, i fucking love the magician from riga. But when I watch chess the most funny part and entertaining is to understand how the brain of those geniuses work, something called macro in league watching pro in league is not about

i stopped watching LCS because there TOO MUCH DAMAGE.

it makes 0 sense, damage being high or not you try to understand their decisions first, this is the most important thing it's not about outplaying or whatever the fuck it is

Highvoltage9991 votes

He's not saying he doesn't like macro play, he's saying that if you try to play someone like Zed, then when you all in your laner, any jungler can come in and one shot you, so your forced to play extremely passive players like Ryze and Malzahar and just farm the entire game until a skilled champion all-ins and your jungler comes back and kills him

No we dont want to have to watch a seperate video super slowed down to see whats going on in the game we are watching. Whats the point of watching the game then.

You’re completely right, damage creep has removed strategic expression from the game, there’s no strategy involved anymore, anything and everything bursts eachother. It’s so easy to win that any mistake can cost you the game, and this has effected pro play also. Making games extremely passive and boring.

well there isn't quite "NO" strategy, but it certainly is drastically lower.. maybe like a quarter to a half of what it used to be

PaffWasTaken6 votes

The logical action that we need to take is to boycot real hard the worlds this year. Riot scrapped the game experience for everyone and scrapped the entertainment we previously had watching pros playing it. We need to remind them where the money comes from and that we can cut it out if they do everything they want without thinking if they should.

Verxint5 votes

Riot has had it backwards for a while. They see a lack of aggressive maneuvers and they think "It must be because its not rewarded enough! Make everything do more damage and make every lead more powerful and people will try to get thsoe leads".

In reality, what will create high level aggression is reliability and reasonable fallback options. Pro players aren't going to take risks if the punishment for failure can lose the entire game. A huge reason why DotA has so many more kills at the pro level is that 1. Abilities are much more consistent and reliable and 2. Being a bit behind doesn't ruin you as much because your hero has some mechanic that makes it always good, as opposed to league where you just get outclassed by your opponent in every metric.

You dont watch LCK or other regions don't you?

This seems like the usual copy pasta that someome that doesn't watch pro play writes to justify his/her hate towards pro play.

And there's nothing wrong with not watching pro play, but your text is hilarious and it's really far from accurate on almost everything, I cant believe that you watch pro play if you write this.

Hey there!

While I completely understand this scenario happening too often, I don’t think that this is the way to approach this. Lowering overall damage would **significantly ** increase the duration of a match- something Riot has clearly stated they’re against. Maybe some nerfs would better solve this? - CFood

that is flat out false though,, maybe if they lower they damage by only 10-20% it would be true

but the damage need to be lowered by a LOT more than 20% 40-50% would be a good starting point.

the average AD is tremendously higher

and while the AP is roughly the same (or slightly lower) before item 3089 is completed... AFTER it is completed is is MUCH higher

TANKS have likewise gotten absurdly tanky

bruisers have also had damage creep

EVERY class is affected

even SUPPORTS have damage creep

just to give an example of support damage creep

take Morgana who was VERY strong (almost op) in season 7 and while is still decent is MUCH worse in season 8, do to direct nerfs . but if we ignore the direct nerfs

what happened?

well they deleted sightstone

and they added it onitem 3098

so instead of first back grabbing item 3098 then next back having my 800 gold go to sightstone

i have first back item 3098 and my next 800 gold goes to damage

then take into account starting support builds went from a more "defensive with armor with make 8-12 ap base with a 5 ap support item"

and now we have item 3303 with 10 ap

but im getting how much ap from runes? TWENTY

so instead i am starting with nearly double my AP than in season 5

get extra poke from Aery

many support also take scorch (although i dont)

i already come with a free item 2419 to cut 600 gold off the item 3157 that I'm going to buy anyways

and just item 2419 and the sightstone alone is 1200 more gold ahead that i would have been

on top of that i can no longer get ruby sightstone so i wont spend 800 more gold for extra item cdr on item 3157 thats now free with item 2419

and i am also not bothering to finish item 3092 because there is next to no benefit for doing so and i lose at least 30% gold efficiency by doing so. ( 1 more ward slot? when i can get a item 3157 sooner to use with my ulti? phh nty) so thats at least 800 more gold

and theitem 3312 is amazing but i cant build it anymore. which i would have rushed because of the extra speed boost passive on a spell so by 15 min

without ANY change in gold generated i am easily over TWO THOUSAND gold ahead on my damage itemization. WHY? because the items i WANTED to build i can no longer build. so i end up building damage.

its not JUST horrendous design choices like adding front-loaded damage on runes or making disastrous items decision like item 3147 lethality, item 3095 , true damage on item 3031 , true damage on conqueror, item 3124 item 3812

EVERY design choice is pushing toward greater damage. and they all multiply each other to compound the issue to make higher bases values, lower resists, and upfront burst from non champion sources.

and addressing just ONE of those is NEVER going to fix the issue.

i demonstrated and talked about in detail just ONE issue of damage creep. and likely on the class that matter LEAST about damage creep in supports

but if u also want to take a look as supports like Janna now killing you with autos.

Lol bruisers and tanks are the only classes that havent been damage creeped since season 3. Defense has just gotten worse and worse. and adcs just outright stopped buying defense and started crying that things kill them too fast.

They didn't stop buying defense, they just had their defensive items that they build be changed into more damage because they want everything to suit them. I miss everyone building at least one COMPLETELY DEFENSIVE item per game, with others that give you damage and defenses. Now every defensive item an ADC or a mage will buy is going to be more like offtank, with an emphasis on off.

Like what the hell is the use of a Banshee's Veil with only magic resist? That's not going to stop anything unless you rush it first item and you can't even do that unless you're manaless.

LordGeovanni1 votes

they did stop buying defense a common adc build back in early season 3 would look like item 3153 item 3080 item 3087 item 3006 item 3102 item 3026 . that would be an adc with 2 dedicated defensive item slots with no damage at all. S3 Worlds comes out top teams stopped building any defense on the adc or they traded the item 3102 for item 3139. Solo que players try that without the co-ordiantion of top pro teams and cry that they die to quickly on adc compared to worlds adcs who are properly protected by a support and a tank while their fighter goes off to dive the enemy back line(back when fighters still graced worlds as fighters and not off tanks like irelia with her damage reduction and kled with his dismount invunrability). While tanks and fighter items have lost stats with the exception of item 3068 that gained 25 hp and item 3078 that gained 10-20 attack speed upon losing other things
