Mordekaiser is performing WAY better in NA than any other region. Why?

MealReadytoEat··3 votes·987 views

I made a post on Reddit detailing why the 65% win rate being claimed for Morde was BS, but I was still wondering why I was seeing a large difference in win rates on various statistics sites.

I finally figured it out; his win rate varies dramatically by region, and some site's statistics were based off global win rates, while other were based off NA. His global win rate (in all of ranked) is around 51%, while in NA its 53%.

** In platinum ranked games Morde's win rate is #3 in NA (~55%) but only #98 in Brazil (~48%), or around #43 (~51%) in the world as a whole.** None of the other Juggernauts (or other high win rate champs, as far as I can tell) see much disparity between regions; they are all performing well globally. Why is this?

Look at him on LoLking on BR or NA, and OP.gg on BR and NA. (You will need to sort by ranked on OP.gg if you want to see his performance in plat.) Yes, his win rate varies over 7% between regions, and even more between different tiers of play.

Are American's just bad at dealing with non-meta picks, are they better at playing non-meta picks, is our meta just better for him, some combination of these or something else entirely?

This is a great point of discussion, I'd love to here what other people think.

It's cause Americans are too fat slow and lazy to get out of the way of his third Q.

MealReadytoEat2 votes

That stereotypes. Although to be fair, I have ranged champions try to auto attack duel me in melee ranged in High plat/low diamond games then complain that my q is so OP.

Mexico's now the fattest country, and France and Germany are catching up to the U.S :O

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't NA meta focused heavily around farming mostly for the first chunk of the game?

If that's the case, then its not hard to see why, Morde, once someone gets locked down in a fight, can proceed to delete him with a few items.

MealReadytoEat1 votes

As far as I know though, that's kinda meta globally, but I could be wrong. There's not a huge disparity between champion picks that I can see right now though, if that helps.

Blasphemy, only 98th in Brazil? Your statistics must be wrong. Mordekaiser es numero uno huehuehue

It's funny how bad this joke fails. One in Portuguese is um, and yes Brazilians speak Portuguese not Spanish.

The 65% most likely was coming from champion.gg That site filters out champions by role to more accurately portray win rates. People still haven't fully given up on solo lane morde, which us incredibly weak this patch, which somewhat pulled down morde's overall winrate. The site did initially list adc morde as being at 65% however it has since dropped to 62%

I have no idea how to explain that win rate across regions. My only guess is that each region is trying to do something slightly different and NA is just doing the best.

Because you didn't click the link, here is the Reddit post -

Champion.gg states his win rate as ADC is just under 65%, but look closely at his % play rate by position - 43.44% ADC and 17.39% Top - only 60.83% games he plays.

That other 40% of games are primarily one's he's an ADC, but performs so poorly he has so few items that Champion.gg doesn't know how to classify him

(edit - it's Riot's API that is assigning these lanes, in part by time spent by location in the game, but clearly by other things as well so as to distinguish between the support and ADC [would like to see a Rioter clarify this], not champion.gg - 40% of his games are still unassigned, so the points still stand.) .

A quick look at lolking here shows that his win rate overall in ranked has been 49-51.5% the past week. Looking at plat elo's like champion.gg is on that graph tells you pretty much the same story as ranked overall, and I can promise you people there know ADC is his only strong role and are picking accordingly.

(Edit 2 - For the record, I think Mordekaiser ADC IS overpowered and some nerfs and power shifting would make him healthier, but he's not game breaking like a 65% win rate would be. This post was about properly interpreting statistics, not his balance.)

(Edit 3 - Thanks RiotJules for confirming that this is whats going on)

(Edit 4 - Holy hell, Morde's win rate varies a ton by region, check out both op.gg and LoLking and compare by regions, 94th highest win rate on OP.GG for plats ranked Brazil, 12th highest win rate in NA)

Holy shit you got 4 edits on this in an hour?

Anyway had RiotJules not confirmed that I'd have tried to argue that point further. I'd imagine if it were accurately calculated it would still be fairly high. Outside of my friends and I, I have seen more non adc morde's than adc morde's so I imagine that the games are getting thrown out because ppl are still trying support morde.

Morde's ~50% winrate overall is also somewhat misleading as well in terms of his balance because his non adc roles are underpowered and dragging his winrate down

Alot of people confirmed it in the thread, including Phreak and a Champion.gg Dev.

Check out the comments by 0Skydive in the Reddit thread, he got his site working properly with Mordekaiser ADC here!.

Its around a 55-57% win rate, dropping to around 53.5% in Diamond, which is very close to the 2% higher win rate I calculated he should have as ADC vs his overall win rate. Keep in mind theses stats are still all for NA; His win rate not nearly that high as ADC globably.

Also, that was just a copy pasta of the Reddit thread, which played out a few days ago.

Well generally yes, all meta farm, but places like Korea and China, there a significantly higher emphasis on early game fighting, its not uncommon to see kills occurring within 5 to 10 minutes in those metas.

NA reallllly likes to drag out the farming phase of games longer than any other region, which would make sense in the case Morde, since he's more of a mid to late game champion (Correct me if I'm wrong).

MealReadytoEat1 votes

Morde doesn't really seem like a late game champ, and he's really good early with the right support. I usually get several kills before 10 minutes with him. His mid game with TF, Steraks, and Rylai's seems to be his strongest point relative to his opponents.

From what I saw even in LCS NA teams tend to have prolonged melee teamfights which means Morde has plenty of time to wreck enemy team.

I had a match where I was fighting against a Lee sin jungle and a Zed mid that got a bit ahead of me. 3 Teamfights and Zed was utterly destroyed with lee following right after. (this to show how melee initiators are breakfast for Morde).

MealReadytoEat1 votes

Was there an LCS game with Morde yet? I'd love to see it. It'd be the first LCS game I'd have watched, lol

Stars Shaper1 votes

Man I'd love to see it too.

I can confirm that Morde is rather OP now botlane mostly because his combo makes shield parry any possible harass if not really well coordinated. I still haven't even playd him with a Leona or Braum but had some awesome time with Sona and Nami plus a rather easy laning coupled with a Thresh.

Trundle support + Morde ADC would make my day.

Morde's strengths really shine with a Blitz, the kill potential is insane.

Samflash31 votes

I played against Morde + Shen.

That was not fun at all.

MealReadytoEat1 votes

I've played him with Ekko, Maokai, Zac, Volibear, pretty much every melee champ with CC - God its fun.

Meep Man1 votes

From what I can tell, the American player base is more aggressive and "deathball" than most, which Mordekaiser both performs well in and against.

MealReadytoEat1 votes

That's like the total opposite of what other people said. I really don't know how the meta's compare.
