thank you for dynamic que

SwiftKitten88··35 votes·3,161 views

Before dynamic que i used to play ranked, and because in solo que i truly felt like my rank meant something i would constantly stress about my rank, about whether or not i won the game.. about getting bad teammates.. and so on and so forth.

now with the introduction of dynamic que.. the ranking system means nothing. rank is now meaningless.

because of this, i now play unranked, and now i don't need to worry about winning or losing a game because of idiot teammates.. i don't need to worry about counterpicking their champ when i REALLY want to play a different champ that would normally be bad against the champ they picked.

i can play to have fun. and it makes my life much less stressful. instead of stressing about ranked i can play to have fun.

and because the matchmaking system is such shit right now.. i can actually face people who are at a higher skill lvl than myself... and learn from them how to play better. making it much easier to improve than when i face people my own skill over or worse than me. because if it isn't a challenge i cant improve. and because i don't need to worry about playing perfectly and getting the win at any cost.. i can try new build and ideas i would never have risked in a ranked game.

so thank you for completely destroying the ranked process. i can now play to have FUN. instead of worrying about my standing in what is now a blatantly broken and worthless ranking system.

LOL! Dude, it was NEVER SOLO QUEUE.

So how did Duo's keep all this 'Competitive Integrity'? It's NO DIFFERENT.

What has changed is now we can simply refuse Trolls and Toxics by choosing to Queue with 4 other decent human beings so we can enjoy our competitive game without being subjected to those Trolls and Toxics.

We never have to have our game ruined by some a-hole again. I'd call that an improvement.

Having a team of 5 versus having people duo que is totally different with a team of 5 i can scale through all through silver and most of gold with no skill at all, it is not fair to the solo que people that league is known for! I agree toxics and trolls went down great but the overall fact that I am plat 5 and I have people that dont understand the dynamic of the game speaks volume to me how they got up here. They got a group of silvers together and then climbed because communication is everything. How about riot gives us the ability to talk to our teammates and then it at least put everyone on a level playing field

Mandang04 votes

You have a decent point, but it's a matter of degree.

Were duos in the old system also a means of undermining ranked? Sure. Are trios and above even worse? You bet.

KillerKell1 votes

So then we agree... it was NEVER a matter of Competitive Integrity, because that was ALWAYS lacking.

Only a PURE SOLO QUEUE would be accurately described as having Competitive Integrity.

Mandang02 votes

It's not black and white. Even DQ has some element of competition, it's just lower than duo queue was, which was lower than what solo queue would have.

Old duo queue might not have been perfect, but that doesn't mean you can't make it worse.

Except it is black and white.

There either WAS Competitive Integrity, or there WAS NOT.

Also, it works both ways. There are things about Dynamic Queue that ARE better, just as there were things about Solo/Duo that were better.

I'm not arguing if one is better than the other, I'm simply stating that fall back of "This ruins Competitive Integrity" is b.s. propaganda, because with Duo ALWAYS being part of it there was never this pure 'Competitive Integrity' people are complaining about. It was ALWAYS tarnished.

Now, you can say it's 'tarnished MORE' now... but does that matter, really? Integrity is like Virginity or Pregnant... you can't be a little bit of a version or a little pregnant. You either have Integrity, completely... or you have none.

Mandang02 votes

...then ANY fault of solo queue would also (by your black-and-white argument) mean it also doesn't have competitive integrity.

Got stuck playing a role that you're not good at? Well, it's not perfect so it's zero integrity!

It's not black and white, and YES IT DOES MATTER whether the game gets better or worse. Your pregnancy comparison is idiotic, but even with that there are certain levels of pregnancy where you are legally allowed to get an abortion and some that you're not - there's still a difference!

You can't seriously believe that what Riot does from now on doesn't matter at all simply because the game isn't perfect... (which, btw, it never was)

Our conversation is on Solo/Duo and Dynamic, to which all I am saying is that neither have Competitive Integrity. I'll gladly hop back on point, if you'll allow it.

My claim isn't that one is better than the other. Both have flaws.

I do feel the POTENTIAL of Dynamic Queue far outweighs the POTENTIAL of Solo/Duo Queue.

But for PURE Competitive Integrity, Solo Queue (not Solo/Duo) would be hands down the best. However, I have issue with a Team Game in which Team Work and Communication aren't rewarded... Dynamic Queue actively rewards those major aspects of Team Play.

Look, I still think your obsession with black-or-white "competitive integrity" is merely a convenient excuse to gloss over the further damage done to the ranked system by DQ. However, I really can't stand another pregnancy argument, so I'm not going to argue that point further.

That said, can we PLEASE stop it with this notion that league of legends was devoid of teamwork and communication when it was played solo/duo? League was a team game then and it's still a team game now. You want teamwork and communication? Give us voice comms. Nothing about this requires premades. (And, no, I'm not arguing against dynamic queue existing - I'm arguing against pulling the plug on solo queue under the pretense that it's needed to make league a team game.)

As for the idea of "the way the game's meant to be played" - I don't think teleport gangbanging bot lane just because you're on comms and they're not is worth protecting any more than solo/duo was. Everything short of true solo might be a bad system in which to carry out "solo-ish" games, but I'd say everything short of 5s is a shoddy way of playing as teams too.

KillerKell1 votes

The only deal is this game was never intended to be a Solo Game.

Even the Call of Duty boys understand their game isn't intended to be a Solo Game, but they get away with more Solo Cowboy because in their World Kills IS the most important Skill.

In our world, the most important Skill is destroying an Enemy Nexus... and there are a multitude of ways to skin that cat.

Now I do agree that there should be an In Client Voice Chat, but I would further that the ability to Queue only enhances the Team Work possibilities, which is a good thing.

Now, are their abuses to this... like Elo Boosting? Absolutely. Which as it goes was also done in Solo/Duo, the difference is now it can be done more efficiently. This obviously is a negative. I've never said Dynamic isn't without it's negatives.

Anything that furthers the ability to improve Team Play in a Team Game, in my humble opinion, is a GOOD thing. As I feel the REAL Skill is in being the best Team Mate, which isn't always the best Solo Mechanic (though it doesn't mean it can't be as well).

I also think Dynamic Queue will give greater rise to Support Respect, as in more integrated Team Play Supports are rather valuable.

But these are just my thoughts. I'm willing to take the bad for the current good AND the greater potential I see in Dynamic that would not and could not exist in Solo.

Duo's were fine and still are I don't mind facing duo's its when ur facing a 3man or 4man or a 3man and a duo vs all solo que is when the imbalance comes in. Also premade groups are supposed to be playing better opponents than their own skill level but in most cases they are facing even skill level or worse skill level which makes it even more of a one sided match.

Either there is Competitive Integrity, or there isn't.

It can't be okay with 2, but not 3, with 3 but not 4... it's either Integrity or it's not.

So if the addition of Players that can Cooperate due to Communication and Pre-Making destroys that Integrity... then there NEVER was such an Integrity.

the difference is.. you can outplay 2 players prob 50% of the time which is fair. what you cant outplay is 3+ because the odds stack in your favor for each additional premade player. 2 was always accepted even though most still wanted pure solo queue but duo's didnt skew the odds for winning enough to bother complaining about on a daily basis. 3-4-5 man premades do however skew the odds in such a high number its more oppressive than any champion in any of their most broken states

None of which changes the point about Integrity.

What you are arguing is degrees here, but integrity doesn't have degrees... it's all or nothing.

As long as the Players use the benefits of communication and team work, you are absolutely right that the more of them they have the better they can become. The whole SHOULD be worth more than the sum of it's parts, when done correctly. But then, that is as it should be. Solo Players can only combat that by deciding to be more effective together when they play, by requesting their Team Mates to Voice Chat and discussing higher level Strategies to employ.

While I understand that can be difficult, even a pain... I have no issues with moving beyond 'Solo Strategies' and getting into the deeper complexities and stratagems that are available. I do hope more people take advantage of Dynamic Queue as to experience those things. I feel it makes the game better, over all.

That doesn't mean I don't feel the current Dynamic Queue is without issues. They really have to fix the Match Making and get these Wait Times down. They find a way to do that, a lot more people will be backing Dynamic as a superior product.

so pretty much what your saying is. to win you have to use and abuse dynamic queue? i can easily group and climb all the way up to high diamond.. super easy since i have 3 masters friends and 2 challenger friends who always have smurfs in silver/gold. the problem is it shouldnt be that easy to inflate rankings that high. riot is alienating the majority of their player base solo players and has already lost over 150,000 players in NA alone. (post was deleted where they show those statistics for lost players or i would link it here) i havent even played a single league game in over 2-3 weeks because i no longer enjoy the games. its either a stomp in either favor and neither are very fun. coin flip in the lobby to see which team has the better premade and poof the game doesnt even matter cus its decided in the lobby

Actually, that's not even close to what I'm saying. I'm saying, in Team Games the most Effective Teams should Win more often. I'm also saying simply grouping together with other players does not alone make that group better... they have to actually do the things that coming together as a group benefits for it to work. Five idiots are still just five idiots whether they group or not.

Also, very few games are ever decided in the Lobby... and those that are generally tend to happen only at the Highest Elo when multiple Pro Players group and can't get an equal MMR match.

In Bronze, Silver, Gold... there is no such thing as 'losing in the lobby' unless it is by In-Fighting and Trolling.

No, it's not. It's about logic and common sense.

If having people able to group disrupts the Competitive Integrity... well, people have ALWAYS been able to group. Ergo, there has NEVER been Competitive Integrity.

It's basic logic, common sense.

But because it doesn't fit your agenda, you have to pull 'rank' to try to seem smarter.

If people grouping gives a Competitive Advantage... then Solo/Duo was never entrenched with Competitive Integrity.

It's rather simply. A child could understand it. Not a baby, though. Which is what you're acting like.

But please, feel free to 'pull rank' any and every time Logic escapes you.

Boosting.

Your border in the loading screen was supposed to represent your skill. You EARNED a Platinum, Diamond, or Challenger border because you had the skill to get it.

But Dynamic Queue has made it so incredibly easy for Challenger/Diamond players to boost Bronze players to high-elo that unless Riot goes into hardcore boost-banning-mode, the border will mean nothing next season. People who are even worse than I am will be going around with their shiny Diamond loading screen border.

It's a vanity thing. People who only play for fun or the challenge of the game and don't care about what other people think of them won't understand.

Dedrius2 votes

I doubt many players are gonna get boosted to diamond from a challenger smurf just so the challenger player can make another smurf and do it over again. Riot just banned a large number of challenger players who were known boosters, it might have been in Korea, but it was like 20 of the top 100 on the challenger ladder. Boosting has always been an issue but I don't think every bronze player will get a diamond border by being boosted.

Mandang06 votes

They'll be boosting people to gold for season rewards, not to diamond. Diamond is such a small fraction of the playerbase, that it's not even worth talking about when on the subject of boosting.

You did bring up diamond. Boosting has always been a thing and win always continue to be.

Mandang05 votes

Wrong person, buddy... this is my first post in the thread and I'm only responding to how you brought up diamond like it's a big matter.

Point is, these diamond/challenger boosters (again, statistically not the ones you need to be worried about) aren't going to be boosting their clients into diamond, they'll be boosting them someplace far lower (likely gold). As such, they won't need to reroll a new acct for each job, nor will the job get difficult if they don't.

That was my point. I have no idea what you're going on about now...

PS: Saying "boosting has always been a thing and will always continue to be" as a defense for enabling boosting is like saying the same thing with theft while you mandate all doors be left unlocked - it's a shitty argument.

Dedrius1 votes

I feel that you think boosting is a lot more prevalent an issue than it really is. Yes some players will get boosted to gold for the rewards (an ugly border and a random skin that I have never used from any of the past seasons I was gold+). Maybe being gold won't mean as much comparatively but who really cares how your gold looks compared to someone's plat.

Ranks shouldn't be a dick measuring contest. If you hit gold on your own merit that should mean more to you than someone else getting boosted to plat.

Mandang07 votes

Again, I'm only talking about boosting because you were talking about it. If you want to get my thoughts on dynamic, the problems with that system are far more general than the case of someone actively trying to undermine the queue. That said, it's a poor argument to say players can't care about what happens to their ranked queue just because you don't care about the rewards yourself (all while normals have ALWAYS allowed trios and quad-queues, so why are you hung up on needing dynamic queue to allow them into ranked)?

Look, as far as I can see, there are only 2 reasons for having a ranked queue:

  1. It's a dick measuring contest
  2. Higher quality of matches/gameplay

We're gonna have to disagree on #1, so I'll assume you think the point of ranked is something to do with #2.

Thing is, match QUALITY also suffers the further you move from true solo queue, even without boosting. In true solo queue, you have a match of 10 players all around the exact same MMR, all with the same tools of communication at hand, all (now) getting the role they're prepared to play - that's the best you can do. Once you add in premades, now you need fudge factors for teams with differently-sized premades, differently-split premades (plat-silver vs gold-gold), and you should PROBABLY have such a factor for player experience with that premade (but Riot doesn't, so they assign you the same personal MMR when you play solo as when you play with your usual crew). All of these are ways that the matchup can and will be skewed, and even Riot's best hope will only balance the outcome of the match to 50/50. This still doesn't ensure laning matchups are anywhere near balanced (if two plat-silver premades face each other, a plat vs silver lane will be mismatched). Normals already have matchmaking, and they've been "dynamic queue" forever... Basically, in no way does ranked provide higher quality matches in the context of dynamic queue.

This is why someone getting boosted to plat DOES matter to me, regardless of whether I'm able to hit my desired tier. I'm more confused as to why YOU care, seeing as all you've done is diminish the importance of ranked. If you want a queue where anything goes and ratings don't mean anything, why not take your premade into normals? Can't you just play normal draft?

Dedrius1 votes

I only brought up boosting because brought it up in response to my initial question. I am also pretty sure you still cannot queue up with silver as a plat player unless that was changed and I am unaware.

I am confused as to why you think I am diminishing the importance of ranked play. I think a persons rank does not really matter, and should not be used to compare them to others and rather compare them only to themselves so they can focus on improvement rather than being better than someone else. I get the idea you think I just stroll around ranked games playing random shit trolling my ass off that is not the case. I played ranked for a more competitive environment and because whenever I play normal games I can basically first time a champ and do well which isn't all that fun. You also say "take your premade to normal" as if I play in premade teams. I play solo in ranked 98% of the time so do not assume that I have not faced what every other solo queue player in Dynamic has faced because I have. I just do not see it as much of a difference from solo/duo queue like everyone else does.

You seem to think the new champ select is a good thing, but it wouldn't have happened without the introduction of Dynamic Queue. I would be 100% fine if they got rid of dynamic and went back to solo/duo queue and wouldn't be effected in the least, but with a game of this caliber things need to change and evolve even if the changes aren't that great.

Zarvanis replied to your initial comment in this string with the answer of "Boosting". You replied with doubts about boosting. I replied TO THAT COMMENT. I think you either have me confused with Zarvanis or you have discussion view turned off - I have only ever been replying to you on the topic of boosting.

I am confused as to why you think I am diminishing the importance of ranked play. I just do not see it as much of a difference from solo/duo queue like everyone else does.

The bolded part is why I think you're diminishing the importance of ranked. Besides that, I think the way you show your improvement is exactly by comparing yourself to others. I didn't mean to imply that you don't take ranked seriously if/when you play, but surely you can see how the way you talk about rank/rating would suggest you don't value it as highly as others do.

In short, if the argument against those of us wanting solo queue restored is that dynamic queue is needed, I don't think you can provide a good reason why that's consistent with what you've said about rank not mattering. I say that because normal draft has always been "dynamic queue", and if rank truly doesn't matter, then it should suffice for those players who want larger premades. Meanwhile, those of us who want to play in smaller premades no longer have any queue that supports it.

So I apologize if I seemed to place you incorrectly, but I still don't see much of a defense for why we need dynamic queue or how dynamic queue doesn't undermine ranked.

The champ select is entirely independent from dynamic queue and could have been implemented into a different queue just fine. Riot's just done a very good job of entwining the two in players' minds so they defend dynamic queue for the benefits the new champ select offers. They have craftily turned the discussion into one of black and white where they're no longer accountable for improving the system or compromising, but instead have placed the burden of adapting to the new system squarely on the players.

Dedrius1 votes

Yes my apologies I did have you confused with Zarvanis in one of my responses and I believe we both were confused by my response.

I was not trying to diminish the importance of RANKED I was more diminishing the importance of RANK, which is different. I just value the overall atmosphere of ranked more than the actual ranking itself. It seems a lot of people get mad about their rank and it causes them to rage/tilt/be toxic about it which is why I don't care for my rank as much.

The only reason that I think Dynamic Queue is superior to soloqueue, and this is coming from a player who plays solo 99% of the time, is because it satisfies a need that was previously unsatisfied. In solo/duo queue, you could not play as a group of 3 or 4, but in Dynamic queue, you can still play as a solo player or duo team. I think if the system makes more things possible then it is doing its job.

Zarvanis3 votes

Well not ALL of them, obviously. Boosting will always be a problem, it's just that now it has become so prevalent that rank has lost its meaning.

I did hear about the Challenger bans. Do LCS players still have the 'no-ban-shield' despite Boosting on-stream? I've heard of some of them doing this, but I've never heard of any being punished.

Dedrius1 votes

No LCS players would boost on stream, they aren't stupid.

Then maybe they're just Challenger players, because numerous times I've heard people complaining about how moderately well known league players are boosting on-stream and never getting punished.

And no, I have no idea what their names are. The only high-elo players I actually pay any attention to are the big names, like Faker.

Before dynamic que i used to play ranked, and because in solo que i truly felt like my rank meant something i would constantly stress about my rank, about whether or not i won the game.. about getting bad teammates.. and so on and so forth.

Ranked stopped meaning something back in like Season 1 when they removed the MMR system. Even then you could duo queue. The dirty little secret is that ranked never meant anything.

i have also found a good aspect of the DynamicQ, i found myself carving for gaming in old soloQ because it was addicting competitive and fun, now i can finaly play way less league of legend games because the system is meaningless and no more addicting at all, thank you for this great change riot its been a pleasure getting finaly relief from your too much fun and addicting soloQ.

EDIT: ohh and i almost forget i had another positive point, since i am not addicted to the ranking system anymore i also have to keep my money into my wallet.

much love rito ! [zombie-nunu-hearts]

Good post. As someone who loves playing ranked in games it truly hurts me to see what Riot has done to their system. But your post gave me a good laugh so thank you.
