Mastery bounty hunter vs oppressor makes no sense

xxxMadLionxxx··2 votes·19,226 views

In the red tree, there 2 opposing masteries to choose from. Bounty hunter and oppressor

Bounty hunter deals 1% increased damage for every unique enemy killed Oppressor does 2.5% increase damage to CC'ed/slowed enemies.

That means if I get 3 kills, I would have surpass the increase damage of oppressor. So to me, there is no competition here. Everyone would pick bounty hunter.

Am I wrong?

You are wrong, think about early game - mid game - late game. Sure late game, having 5 unique kills is trivial. But early game? Level 1 for example, and you have a slow in your kit. Oppressor would give you an amazing 2.5% dmg boost. right there and then. and further increase your "early game" champion.

But say you're a mid to late game champion... You may want bounty hunter as to better match your power spike with the power of the mastery.

it all comes down to choice. Do you want the early 2.5% boost, to really capitalize on your early game power spike , or are you willing to sacrifice that opportunity for a chance at that 5% damage boost in the later stages of the game?. and if you do sacrifice that, what if the enemy has oppressor and you dont?, that may have an impact on your power spike, and their ability to cope with it. Sense they have that 2.5% damage boost. they may just survive your most powerful time of the game ~ you don't want that

it all comes down to the champion, and what masteries better strengthen your power spikes.

Of course, that only IF you kill them, but consider this, Ashe has a built in slow, Talon has a passive that does the same thing as the mastery, Its common for Olaf players to build a Frozen mallet on him. And with so much CC that many champions bring to the game, its all a matter of perspective. I would take it on Swain (to name one), even if i get to kill all 5 of them, because its effective even if i have no kills, but the other is only more effective after 3 kills on different champions. unless youre an assasin, you aint getting the 5 cap early game. Or a Lux whos LIVES to CC opponents. Get Heimerdinger a item 3116 and every turret hit will hurt more than ever. or my personal favorite Any champ with the item 3151 item 3116 combination. Again, its all a matter of how you look at it.

item 3151 item 3116 is malzahar, and first days of preseason i played him with opressor but honestly, takes kind of 20 minutes to get 3 kills with him so no point (high elo)

You guys are looking at these all wrong

Opressor gives you 2.5% extra damage on any CCed target whether you CC them or an allie does which is good throughout the game, especially at lvl 1, and with this season early game is more important than ever

For you to get 5% on bounty hunter you need 5 unique enemy kills, which doesnt mean 5 kills, it means you have to get the killing blow on every enemy player 1 time... for each enemy player you kill ( the first time you kill them ) you get 1% more damage..

not every game are you going to get a kill on each 1 of the 5 enemys so its really debatable.

I like oppressor because its the option that is guaranteed.

not only that but 2.5% damage on a 1k dmg crit is only 25 damage... so 25 damage vs 50 dmg on a 1k crit? does it really even matter?

Your target will not always be CC'd (unless you're ashe). If you're a mage, your CC ability is probably a pretty big portion of your burst, so that 2.5% isn't even being applied to a good chunk of your damage. Typically, once you get two kills on unique enemy champs, bounty hunter outscales oppresssor, and once you get 3 kills it will always outscale oppressor. You don't have to kill all 5 enemy champs for bounty hunter to be better. It's a nice bonus, though.

Bounty Hunter is another "win more" tool. If you get a lead, it extends that lead.

On the other hand, Oppressor can help you get that lead and then continue to hold onto it once you have it. It's always useful, as opposed to being conditionally useful only after already snowballing.

I agree, other than Ashe who else would possibly take Oppressor consistently?

CC tanks who don't expect to get kills but still want to deal some extra damage (i.e. Sejuani, Amumu, Nautilus)?

Champions who purchase Rylai's Crystal Scepter relatively early in most games (i.e. Singed, Brand)?

Champions whom have multiple abilities which apply CC (i.e. Swain, Vel'koz, Gnar)?

Champions who have CC with long duration (i.e. Nasus' Wither)

Oppressor could be good on rylai's users or people with low cooldown movement impairment. I would guess it's more consistent in higher level play where you can't guarantee that you'll kill 3 different champions. It's also applying before you get kills if you have a slow, root, stun, etc.

im confuse about bounty hunter does it even have a max cap. Say i kill 5 champions will i get 5% increase damage the whole game?

Yes. Its max cap is equal to the number of enemy champions on the enemy team, since you have to kill unique enemy champs to get the bonus.

Thank i did not know that riot need to clarify it. It a no brian then hyper carry bring bounty hunter and support/tanks bring opp

Tanks take oppressor. Carries take bounty hunter.

This isnt an MMORPG... min maxing isnt a thing in league.

Do you want to optimize your setup? of course you do, if you are a damage dealer you want to deal the most damage you can, but if you break down the numbers, doing 2.5 or 5 damage for every 100 you deal even at a 5% increase... its still only 50 damage per 1,000 you do, and that only really matters when you are on the brink between execute stat champs ( pantheon to enemys below 15% ) or when an enemy survives with 50 HP from a team fight it means you could have got the kill... but we are talking about the higher end of damage

5% per 500 is still only 25 extra damage, and it truely doesnt make or break any build in this game

Of course, that requires getting a kill in the first place, which you can't always guarantee (just think about tanks, supports, or those matches where your opponent plays super safe and you can't kill anything).

Anyone with CC or playing with a CC heavy team who wants guaranteed damage instead of potential damage should take oppressor instead.

redbull papi1 votes

You have to actually kill them tho...

For some champs, that's not a reliable occurrence. If you bring a CC-heavy tank top laner or jungler, than you're better off getting Oppressor because your increased damage output will be way more consistent, resulting in more net damage in the long run.

Gotta think a little more macro than the pure numbers when choosing between these masteries.

I find oppressor a strong tool for offensive type support player. For zyra who tries to get snare in, then burst the hell out of opponents it gives a considerable buff straight early on. Sure Bounty hunter would mean more in lategame, but as a support you dont expect to get kill from every opponent. Same goes for cc junglers. For assasins and such bounty hunter is obvious pick.
