The Real Reason Why Yasuo is Annoying

Does anyone want to know why Yasuo is annoying to play against? The majority of the playerbase will say it is his inflated kit, windwall, that he can dash all over the place, and whatever else. Yes, he has an annoying kit that probably needs to be addressed. He's also one of those champions that even if he plays bad or is very behind, one or two kills means he is going to be unbeatable.

The real reason why Yasuo is annoying to play against is when his opponent feeds him relentlessly. My friend was telling me about a game with a Lux player where she was raging, insulting, throwing the game and outright left the game because of Yasuo. She blamed overpowered Yasuo for being bad and making her lose the game. I decided to rewatch the match and I can see that this player walked into every Tornado, was on top of minions, shot her ULT when Yasuo's windwall was up, and was always fighting with him when his cooldowns were up. I mean, she wasn't even punishing him when he had no minions to dash to, when his windall was down, and when the JG was ganking. Probably the most balanced thing in Yasuo's kit and the only thing that has counterplay in it is his tornado. This Lux walked into 14 tornados and blamed the Developers for not nerfing him and the champion.

So yes, the champion does have his problems and probably does need a kit adjustment to make him easier to play against. Unfortunately, a player who cannot dodge 14 head on tornados and feed him the entire game, is not his or Riot's fault. It's your fault.

The most annoying thing about Yasuo is how he seemingly randomly will go either 10/0 or 0/10.

Nobody wants to risk his team going 0/10, nor his opponent going 10/0. So people ban him.

Also, yeah. You can't trust your mid not to feed him, and a lot of the game can't handle him when he's fed. An ADC goes 10/0, and you can still usually burst their face in with a Rengar or something. Yasuo goes 10/0, and he'll usually slaughter the Rengar.

You realize Yasuo's Windwall can NOT block Lux's ultimate, right?

It's not considered a projectile.

I was rewatching it. You are right. She was just missing it every time and using it point blank.

CertainlyT champions all have the same issue. Their only real weakness is human error. Their kits are mechanically superior to 95%(Exceptions being other CertainlyT champs) of the champion pool and they have tools for every scenario imaginable, because of this mechanical superiority they do not deserve to have their numbers tuned to that of non-mechanical champs, but alas, they are overtuned when compared to mechanically inferior champs, for no reason. There is no trade off for being a mechanically superior champion, whereas the tradeoff SHOULD be damage/survivability. unfortunately Yasuos only weakness is always going to be human error.

  1. Lux ult goes through wall

  2. Yasuo has no cooldowns besides wall. What is she going to do, bait it with E? Any semicopetent Yas will never blow his WW for anything other than an extremely slow Lux Q, a setup E that would put him in ult range, or another champions ability.

  3. Lux got counterpicked. Theres no way in hell any Yasuo is ever going to lose a Lux matchup. She can't get any kill pressure because he'll just wall her Q, assuming he cant just E out of it. He can E out of any attempt at casual E harass his shield can't handle. You just can't fight him as Lux. You also can't not fight him as Lux. Lux can't pressure or clear a wave worth a damn if she can't go into auto range for her passive, and she can't go into auto range without getting all-in-ed. So best case scenario Yas gets to play farmville getting perfect CS because his kit can't miss a creep.

  4. Nado isn't the easiest skill to dodge, its pretty wide and fast. And lots of people suck at dodging so [sg-lulu]

I certainly wouldn't use her case to balance the champ by, but almost every mage gets the same treatment. Easy dodge what you can, free shield for damage, Windwall for CC and ults, and no real constraints on what he can do. Theres simply no room to interact with him early, and then he scales.

Yasuo is a test for how rewarding can a skillcap be. If you can take the time to get good with him should you be able to do all that?

Kind of like old Azir TBH.

Lux ult goes through windwall.

Other than that, dying to his kit feels like he can do whatever the heck he wants without really being punished with the amount of sustain he has from his shield, runes and starting items. He is constantly playing urf mode single player due to his Q and E basically having no cooldown. Furthermore, no matter how behind he is, if he gets his PD + IE powerspike, he can instakill any squishy if they misposition even slightly.

The reason he's annoying is because he was designed to be one of the 4 hardest champions to play, with a kit to compensate and reward that aspect, and now everyone has hundreds of games and is using that potential.

Watch some videos of Season 6-7 Yasuo and compare them to now. The items he uses hasn't changed all that much particularly. What has changed is how fast people catch on to how to hit 3-4 times a second with Q/auto attacks.

The other reason he's annoying is a far more nuanced one: He is the #1-#2 CS farmer in the game, without skill or resources to do it. Yasuo has a unique advantage of having a resetting dash as long as there's a fresh target in sight. This allows even a BAD Yasuo to capitalize on farm almost 100% after he dies. He can go 0/10, but by the end of the game he will be 15/11 or better, because unlike other champions when they die, Yasuo can get right back into the farm, and not only that, but use that farm as a way to get close to champs and prime his Tornado.

Champs that can go 17/17 and still win are generally ALL broken in this way. They never get punished for playing poorly. Yasuo Yorick XinZhao Talon Tryndamere ALL generally have really high death rates, yet win games doing it. Why? Because they have some of the most mobile, objective damaging kits in the game, and their entire role is to be a disrupter and central focus of their teams. Adcs like Vayne Jinx Jhin Often lose their lanes entirely..... with 6-9 deaths, and still win because the second they get to item three, the game changes.

If Yasuo actually got punished for dying, not so many people would rage about him.

That being said: Yasuo also DOUBLE DIPS LIFE STEAL once he has a item 3031 , so 20% LL is actually acting like 40% (IE has a passive not everyone knows about now: Any converted physical damage to true in the kits of users are now subject to spell vamp and life steal. In other words, With IE, you can now leech TRUE DAMAGE. It does not have to come from the Crit true damage. Yasuo's Q is both a single target attack AND an aoe attack, and IE's passive applies to BOTH PARTS.

Yasuo also occasionally defies the rules on CC that actually hits him.

I'm gonna leave you an example: https://youtu.be/k2k5NsS8Uy0

(Ornn hits Yasuo with his ult, Yasuo says AIRBORNE, yet can still skill and keeps on trucking, with the CC doing nothing to stop him)

we already KNOw why Yasuo is annoying. Its because his kit focuses on

  1. Negation. which players dont like ever played against Blue in MtG? or Control Decks? or Janna? having every move you try to do get negated is a feels bad man moment. Windwall negates projectiles, Flow Shield negates your attempts to trade back, his hyper mobility negats your ability to properly dps him as you would a normal immobile champion ect. Basically when you fight Yasuo it feels as though the ball is almost always in his court.

If you dont believe me read through this official publication by Riot which outlines exactly why players hate him (which begs to question why they make no moves to fix this)

  1. ** Great from start to Finish**. Yasuo bullies and starts off strong against any matchup thats not Renekton basically. Melee champions get poked by Q anytime they go for a CS. Ranged champions have trouble poking through his shields and windwalls in addition to being very susceptible to his early all in's with ignite. Yasuo is one of the few champions who not only starts off with a terrific early game but also a MONSTEROUS lategame defying a basic balance design principle. Some of this can arguably also be contributed to the free 50% crit and armor pen innately built into Yasuo's kit ensure that he pumps out obscene amounts of damage after a simple 2 item pick up.

  2. Get fed or die trying. ""Bullshit aside Yasuo is a broken champion. People say he's a high skillcap champion, but the secret with Yasuo is knowing how to control yourself while playing such a overpowered champion. Yasuo's weakness comes from the fact that he is too strong. His laning phase is so strong that after the laning phase people do not know how to keep calm and [not] throw the game." - Dopa

Everyone has had those Yasuo's who go 15/3 on the enemy team but 2/12 on their own team. Much like Dopa outlines Yasuo is a champion who is so powerful he compels players to try and abuse that to the fullest extent often creating these feast or famine esque games where Yasuo pops off or feeds the game away trying to. Similar mental states can incur on champions like Vayne (vaynespotting!) or MasterYi (GG this team. Wheres my support?!). If you had the power to 1v5.. would you not try to? The point is that nobody wants to work with a loose cannon.
