Your reports don't count the more you report

I was told that the more you report people, the less valuable your report becomes.

Well, you know what Riot, if you want me to stop reporting people, stop matching me with people who have no business playing this game.

You only have half the story, your reports gain less value based on how often you report, what you are reporting, who you are reporting, and if you've been reported.

If your a bad player reporting everyone for negative attitudes but the player you reported has no history of being reported for that, you stop being valued, it still counts mind you, it just doesn't hold as much water.

And, in fact, good reports increase your report value.

This applies more to people who think the report system is a way for them to bully their team mates into doing what they want. For example:

<Me>: top <Premade Guy>: top <Premade Guy>: go jungle or 2xReport

Exactly where is the report option for "going to the lane I wanted"? Basically these people exploit the report system in a way that actually makes them toxic. Filing reports over things that aren't in the Summoner's Code will inevitably result in your reports being counted for nothing. Because players need to know the report system isn't a way for them to threaten their allies, but only meant to be a way to report actual inappropriate behavior.

If you are reporting people that havent done anything wrong, then yes your reports will basically go unnoticed because you are abusing the report system. you should only be reporting people who are breaking the Summoners Code, i have seen people report others for really stupid reasons like picking a certain champion, banning certain champions, losing a duel when fighting in lane. those obviously arent breaking any rules, and most often than not the people doing those types of reports are only doing it because they lost/got outplayed, or because they dont like certain things!

The more you falsely report*

If you keep reporting people who get punished, your reports matter more. If you report people who don't get punished, your reports matter less.

Which sucks because there are plenty of people who just have a single bad game where they're toxic. If that happens, then you lose report value even if you're right.

I think they should just use the same system as in DotA 2. At the start of every week, you get a set amount of reports. Every time someone you reported gets punished, you get your report back. Meaning people who file false reports lose their reports quickly while those who file actual reports don't. This serves to reduce the number of false reports, which means the system is much more efficient AND people are more hesitant to go "lol report me it does nothing".

I prefer Rito's system. What if a player gets matched with a bunch of toxic players in a row? And the players that exploit the system will hurt the innocent players more. Yeah, they may report less people but the few people they do report would get hurt more than in Rito's system where the report barely counts.

grLKQ9ma0o1 votes

That only works if Riot actually did minor punishments based on single games.

Well thats not true lol.

The report system is probably as accurate as the honor system (with similar diminishing values), but really, the alternative is having no option. Or just having another way of doing it that's better... which, you know obviously how to do that, because duh, just ban this guy I'm mad at. Like now.

Big system. Few employees. They try to make their employees bigger than they are through the framework, but it won't be perfect. And personally, I'd like the report function to stay, no matter how useless. Makes me feel better that maybe I could be in a file somewhere and that jerk may get what's coming to him. Probably not, but at least I have that dream.

There is some weighting consensus based system but it's far from perfect.

It's actually the more you report people that don't get punished (aka false reporting or "FUCK IT I'M PISSED" reporting), the least valuable your reports are. If you report often but these players are actually report-worthy, the value of your reports is unaffected.

Colgate Gator1 votes

It's not your number of reports what makes them worth less, but false reports, aka, reports that don't go through.

Your reports gain less value IF: You report a lot of people who don't get punished.

Meaning if you report somebody, and no one else ever reports them, they probably didn't do anything wrong and you incorrectly reported somebody, lessening your credibility.

It makes sense, trust me.

No, it doesn't, at all. Just because a certain majority has a specific opinion, doesn't mean everyone does.

Someone spammed "gg izi" constantly every time they killed an enemy. That's arguably reportable, but the thing is nobody else gave a fuck but one player for that particular game, because everybody clicked 'play again' and didn't bother reporting. Noone else reported them, but the player was still valid for a report, because they DID do something wrong.

Take the same player in another game, spamming "gg izi" every time they kill an enemy. This time instead of everyone rushing for another game, they dedicated 2 minutes of their life to formulate a valid report. All of a sudden by your standards the player is correctly reported, thus making you credible, because others bothered to report them this time.

Doesn't really seem legitimate to me, you might want to reconsider.

so what some of you are stating is no tot report anyone ever. i mean heck if i feel as if that person was being negative riot has to treat it as such it shouldnt matter if they have been reported or not i feel they were being negative verbal abuse or what not how is that not credible. or why do i get reported for being liek 16 and 3 and 5 but somehow i was being wrong and the other peopel on my team all were doing extremely bad but somehow you cant win anyway

Snakezzy1 votes

Where did you hear this? I am pretty sure that is not how it works unless you make too many false reports.

Drukyul1 votes

I just wish I knew what my report weight was so I could know to keep up my current rate or if I need to step it back a bit.

Transgressor1 votes

But jackasses need to be reported so they can get punished and hopefully stop being jackasses. Whether one's report is justified or valid is irrelevant, because one reports based on what they consider jackass-ery, which is rather objective. You, me, anyone stepping it back a bit would mean pricks that deserved to be reported won't be, in fear someone finds your report(even if you were right) invalid and renders your future reports worthless.

That's a major flaw in the system, not the players. Reporting someone for negattive attitude because they said "gg izi", albeit completely justified, might be considered worthless by a clown that thinks disrespecting your enemies like that is cool, and make your reports invalid. That way the next time you report someone for negattive attitude because they flamed all game nobody will give a fuck, "your reports are worthless because you report people for the slightest of reasons".

Since muting is the only way you can deal with someone that ruins your experience in this game(you can't do anything to stop intentional feeders, trolls, and prevent bastards from disconnecting), the form of reporting someone based on atittude is the most common use. But since the system itself is flawed and insufficient, having your opinion diminished in value because a prick decided that someone calling you a faggot is not really that big of a deal thus rendering you worthless is an actual issue.

Back when the tribunal was still running, in my short service span I got to judge multiple cases of people getting reporting for either flaming or negattive attitude. Players who would get frustrated and lash out on other players. You know what those reports had in common? Feeders, trolls, and premades. People that would go 2/18 with 64 cs at 20 minutes, players that built 6 boots of mobility, players that intentionaly fed. People wo just ruin everyone's experience causing anger and frustration, trolling no-life kids, premades(2,3,4 players) that would group to troll in normals wasting everyone's time by rendering the game unplayable for everyone else, making it a breeze for the enemy team that would sometimes disrespect those who tried even when they were given a free game. And they reported those who called them on their bullshit, players who had their games ruined, and their nerves racked. I was the only one that gave pardons to those players, everyone else punished them, DESPITE being completely justified. That'd be the equivalent of someone being mugged, knocking the theif out cold, and then be sentenced for punching someone despite it being self deffense.

Why would those kinds of reports be decided legitimate? Why isn't the cause of frustration tackled with, and instead the result of the frustration got dealt with? Reporting and/or banning players that have their games fucked by trolls is the stupidest possible thing, instead of banning the trolls who cause toxicity in the first place.
