It's because you're ____. (State of the Game)

I saw a thread recently that complained that the person gets a lot of backlash for doing well with overpowered champions. This thread is not about any champion in particular being overpowered, or even champions that are.

I'm addressing the simple fact that anyone who plays ranked knows: the champion select screen is all about counter-picking.

That said, the phrase, "you're only doing well because you're _____." May be true. The phrase, "you're doing well because _____ is overpowered" is often false. Feel free to insert champions such as Mordekaiser Karthus Lissandra Renekton TwistedFate Xerath KogMaw , who are not overpowered, but who can be very difficult to fight if you're someone they specifically counter.

The issue with this is that the game becomes much less about your own skill and more about who you chose and what order you got to pick (let's leave out the fact that in SoloQ, there's a decent chance of a mid/top main getting stuck as support), when the skill levels are about equal.

Slightly changed topic: This game was made so that Ranked Solo is about how lucky you get/ how much your allies know about champions and their role, even though in order to be successful in champion select-- where many games are won-- you need either: a. Great communication in the little time you get. b. Fantastic luck, where every ally wants one of the five roles and knows exactly who to pick to both have synergy AND counterpick the opponent.

Personally, I think Solo Queue should be completely abolished, as this is a TEAM game that actually requires teamwork (unlike CoD, which you can actually get away with one or two guys being fantastic and the other 8 being so-so) and the fact they have a non-team rank for a game where teamwork is essential is just odd. It's like they expect you to become a perfect team with your allies withing a couple of minutes.

On top of that, you can bring a duo partner. That makes it so the rank doesn't really affect your own status, just proves even more so that the more time you've had to communicate with your allies, the better team it's going to make.

Back on topic: The game should not revolve around the champion select screen, but when skill levels are equal it does. At the very least, the enemy picking a champion should not bar your team from also doing so. That just screams, "LET THEM COUNTER ME" A TRUE test of skill would be a five-man mirror. But even one or two mirror lanes would even the playing field much more than,

"Oh, the enemy got to pick the champ that just came out and is strong because they do that intentionally for profit? (Ex. Yasuo on release) Looks like I'm screwed because even though I'm better with that champ and he wasn't banned, I don't get to play him."

wel its not like your strapped to a lane

if your counterpicked you can still switch lane hug turret and roam get fed of other lanes and maybe someone might have counterd you in lane but you didnt feed didnt manage to roam and get fed of other lanes but you have allot more teamfighting potential than him and manage to make up for it this way

counterpicking is not aways winning

i personaly hate mirror games

You are if you're not any better off swapping, or if, say, you're mid and countered but switching with your top would let the enemy outrange the hell out of him..

The only reason you'd hate a mirror lane is if you know the enemy is better with the champion than you. Otherwise, you know their weaknesses, cooldowns, items, and damage. If you're worse with the champion than the opponent, that's on you but at least it's fair unlike you being worse at the game and winning ** only** because you counterpicked them.
