Riot, PLEASE do something about Zed's Energy Costs.

I've tried Riot, I really have. I've tried to itemize, strategize and adjust accordingly; nothing works. If I don't play a champion that is resourceless, uses energy that regens quickly or rushes a mana regen item IMMEDIATELY, then I CANNOT WIN LANE. Even then, Zed is too strong in lane. Period. He has to screw up HARD. I have to depend on him to fail and mess up.

How you ask? Zed's excessive power isn't in killing power alone; it lies in his energy costs and ridiculously fast regen. The fact of the matter is that, unless your jungler is constantly coming by to scare Zed off, he just passively farms in lane until 6 - and by passive I mean he outpushes you. Every time. If you use mana, you WILL run out of before him and he won't even have to have attacked you to do it. You can't be aggressive because then you won't have mana to push your lane, not mentioning he can be even more aggressive because he doesn't have to invest so much in his resources given his ENERGY RETURNS SO FREAKING FAST. It's completely absurd, especially when you pile on his insane passive AD gains and mobility. His ult isn't the problem, his Attack Speed has NEVER been the problem and he can simply buy a hexdrinker against any mage that becomes stronger in lane as time goes on. If you don't buy an Armguard, he kills you at 6. If you don't buy Mana regen, he kills your turret or your team.

This issue is huge for me. Why should Zed have so much resource freedom versus any champion with mana? What is the drawback of picking Zed?

Lol you can't win lane against Zed?

um , take exhaust instead of going the usual full AP lux who goes ignite and builds 0 armor.

Downvote all you want but this is the truth and its sickening.

What he's talking about has nothing to do with Zed's ability to burst you, which building armour and taking exhaust both help with. He's talking about Zed's ability to repeatedly drive the lane into your tower and run you OOM as you have to burn an actual resource to shove lane back against him while he doesn't even burn his entire energy pool for a full combo.

In order to W/Q/E at level 6 Zed only pays 155 energy if he somehow manages to not hit one creep twice with one of his mimicked abilities. If he's not braindead it only costs him 115 energy, meaning that he'll be back to full energy in 11.5 seconds, well before the next creep wave arives. Since his costs are so low he can even go for low % poke inbetween waves without losing anything, as he'll still be at least 75% energy for the next wave.

Compare this to a mana using mid lane like Syndra. (and I'm being nice to Zed by not bringing up someone like Anivia) I'm going to assume a level 6 Syndra with no mana regen runes/masteries (you don't run these into Zed because you need armour) and double D-ring.

At level 6 Syndra has 532 Mana and 15.2 Mana/5 with rings included. When Zed just spams every spell into a creep wave Syndra's only option if she doesn't want to lose farm to tower is to full combo every creep wave. Syndra's full combo costs 60+60+50=170 mana and she has to burn it 3 times for every 13 minions for 510 mana per 1.5 minutes. Assuming she last his perfectly she gets 104 back per 3 creep waves. Over 1.5 minutes she regens 273 mana. So even in a scenario where Syndra never trades or harasses with spells she burns 88 mana per minute, meaning that if she never burns mana to trade she can only hang around in lane for 6 minutes if she wants to risk dying as she doesn't have the mana to combo Zed.

However a Zed player such as yourself must understand just how easy it is for a Zed to force trades.

Also I know that this is somewhat floored because I used only the ranks in skills that the champs would have at level 6, but I assure you these numbers start to look far worse for Syndra as her mana costs start to sky-rocket up while Zeds energy costs decrease with every rank he puts into his skills.

I think they should up his energy costs, but also up the amount of energy he gets for connecting both abilities on a champion. So he goes out of energy quickly if he doesn't close to get the the bonus energy recovery.

I think this idea could be a good solution, but I don't think the recovery should be comparable to what he has now without it. His skillshots aren't hard to land at all, not to mention how he can more-or-less spam them.

Zed doesn't need to kill you to win lane. He wins lane by default since he has manaless waveclear. By shoving you into tower, you miss CS and he doesn't.
