I Think Feast Might be Underappreciated

How much of us average in CS per game? I think it's anywhere from 6 to 9 per minute, right? Which means anywhere from 33% to 20% of our farm could be converted into restored health with the Feast Mastery.

If it's a minimum of 20% of your farm converted into health and you acquire a minimum of 200 CS a game then that means you could restore 800 health per game from Feast alone.

Now, compare that the the Double Edged mastery people prefer. If you inflict an average of 25k damage to enemy champions per game without it then you will inflict an additional 750 damage to enemy champions. Now, consider how much damage you receive from enemy champions. If 3 of your enemies inflict massive burst and each one ends up dealing even a 5k damage to you then you will end up taking an additional 225 damage from champions.

Compare the two masteries with the examples stated above. +800 effective health from Feast or -225 effective health for +750 damage from Double Edged.

It's not unappreciated and if anything, feast is the preferred mastery over double-edged sword on any laner who runs down that tree. A safer laning phase is just objectively better than a small damage increase late game.

Feast is almost non-negotiable. A lot of people don't realize that, though.

Feast is legitimately the best mastery in its tier among all three trees.

The only exception where I'd opt out is recent new Vlad builds, due to the massive AP sustain buffs, which rely on HP/level seals, two CDR/level quints, and everything else AP/lvl, granting you nearly 75 AP from runes/masteries alone. Taking double-edged sword with that essentially grants you the same sustain level 3+, but grants you much more damage. This makes your trading incredibly strong and helps you push back some of the most aggressive laners. Its definitely at least a plausible trade-off. However, even then you'll end up taking Feast over Double-Edged Sword sometimes. Read this knowing that Vlad is one of the safest laners in the game now, though.

It all comes down to how you think you'll make it out of laning. If you need to kill someone in a rotation, double-edged sword can help a lot...provided a lack of Feast won't kill your laning experience.

Risk/reward. Its one of the few damage masteries that actually has a significant trade-off due to opportunity cost.
