The Difference Between Being Muted and Being Reported?

When I mute a player, I am protecting myself from them.

When I report a player, I am doing what I can to protect others from them.

The chat filter and the mute options do not give license to fill chat with obscenities over a video game.

Excellent logic, up voted.

I'm still going to fill the chat with obscenities. It's just never directed towards anyone in a negative manner.

I agree with OP, HOWEVER I wish I wasn't so afraid to cuss in chat for fear of punishment. Let me clarify: I was raised that they are just words and not all that offensive, however, it's not acceptable to cuss relentlessly AT someone.

The difference between 'Wow that ult is fucking bullshit' vs 'You're a worthless fucking player'.

I wish there was a vote mute to mute the player for everyone

The thing I hate is that this is a team game. Soon as you mute someone, welp.....you just threw away your team co-ordination and communication. If I have to mute my team I feel as if I already lost, and Riot's cool with this.

That's why you do both.Protect yourself in the short term, protect others in the long term.

yes, but what if i am literally typing "shut the @$#% u% mother#$@%^@#%$# hamster!" does that count?

I mute for more things than I report for. People being overly positive and spewing ignorant bliss piss me off, so I typically mute them, but they haven't done anything reportable.

it doesnt give a license but it makes no sense why you would have a verbal abuse report when you can just mute the jerk. right?

Secret Butt Fun1/12/2016, 7:21:12 AM2 votes

Too bad you can't mute feeding.

Because you might want to report on behalf of someone else.

Kind of depressing that a lot of people in this thread can't understand why you would want to be altruistic and save others from having to deal with toxic players.

ahferroin71/12/2016, 5:26:33 PM2 votes

I wholly agree. Of course, I'm also the type of person who doesn't tolerate it period, even if I'm not the one being verbally abused, and even if the person doing the abusing is on my friends list.

In matter of fact, People mute then report. Or just report them.

So, You can say mute is 2 in 1.

Yeah mutes should be considered as something almost as bad as a report. It's not as bad as a report because anyone can just mute any time, but report takes slightly more effort.

The logic we need, although none of us deserve.

If a player has been toxic in all chat or intentionally feeding and the other team notices it, this is the logic I use.

"You've seen how toxic this player is, I'd recommend reporting him/her so they're not on your team next match."
