Previous season MMR should only carry on during placements

It is insane how people can have a negative win ratio and be in high elo (diamond 1/master/grandmaster/challenger) just because they were diamond 1 or above last season.

This just ruins ranked honestly and makes people who actually lost it get to a rating they barely had to work for.

Back in season 1-2, rating was high value, because there wasn't much in the game and previous season MMR didn't get brought season to season 8 times. This was an issue that was brought up a few times in the distant pass but no one really cared.

So yeah, due to how many seasons there have been, I think it's time to only make the game take your MMR into consideration during placements and then treat the account like a new account, not taking into consideration your previous season standings.

Game should go back to original Elo system so we can see how Riot has fucked the matchmaking.

It would get rid of the d4 never gonna demote unless p4 mmr mentality.

When you hit mid-high plat there is a large amount of d4 players with awful game mentality that feel like they can make their own team lose for fun and they will not get demoted till their MMR falls to a ridiculous low amount, kinda problematic. You should be able to demote tiers as easily as divisions.

Previous season MMR is only carried on through placements. Your MMR is effected by your wins/loses after that point.

It's not directly correlated by your winrate but loss streaks and win streaks greatly effect your MMR.

An issue is there is double the population on diamond this year compared to last so lower MMR was inflated into being Higher MMR

elo inflation was a big thing this year but i feel like thats every year.

i see too often people who are diamond 1 who get to master/challenger easily with a shitty win rate.

i remember 4 years ago playing with QTPIE in challenger and he said "oh yeah, the juicy 40 lp gain". and we won, what happened? + 40 lp for him, I got 18, lmfao.

Elo inflation was never that bad.

Diamond players stayed around 2% for years. Lowest from memory I've seen was 1.7% of playerbase.

Currently it's a little under 4% which is lower than it was last month 4.2% but higher than it was before the division shift and it was around 3.6% at that time.

So somehow kicking everyone down in a division made more players get into diamond AND it's just not getting lower but not by much...

Even all that bring said its about double what it was last year

I agree with you because that could be causing the high elo problems with people getting matched where they shouldn't.

If I may offer an alternative.

I suggest that no account sees its self receive any "achievements" prior to playing a minimum # of games a season. Say the lowest end value for expected system accuracy.

That way those rusty accounts will sink to a MMR that's representative of them or they get no icon no tier no victorious. Don't play enough games to provide relevant data? You basically get treated like you did not play ranked that season at all.

That way you wont see hard stuck Diamonds trying to intentionally Tank their MMR so they can smurf on their mains and dumpser lower Elos.

You need to think of MMR like a balance. ITs not to surprising to see a high balance account not into dumpster MMR because of bad win %s.

Remove any and all proof of achievement until some one has provided the required data Riots MMR expects them to do. Last I saw a number iot was 150-300. So... 40 min ish per game to be on the safe side. Lets go with the middle ground of 225 which is 75 games away from both directions.40 min per game. 225. 9000 minutes total. broken down into hours 150 hours. Broken down into days? You would need to spend about 6.25 days worth of time per year on this game. Given that you have 365 to do so I don't think that's to dramatic of a time sink. It can be achieved casually playing 1 game a day. Half that with 2.

Not to unreasonable imo and prevents people from turning any higher MMR account into a smurf If the want.

It is impossible to calculate ranks without mmr and mmr will always have to be based on something.

Also, the old elo system used the previous season elo the exact same way as the current uses mmr.
