@Riot Either remove series or give us LP that we won in them after promoting.

If you demote you end up on 75 lp and if you win series/promos you get nothing, 0 lp. Also if you lose a game during series/promos you lose LP and don't gain anything if you're already at 100. It doesn't feel great does it. Either remove series completely, because it feels like they're there to stop us from climbing fast... or just give us the LP we won in them when we get promoted, that would be a big help to us and a massive satisfaction when you win them.

You have a grace period after you get promoted.

You basically, you start a new Tier with ~3-5 losses worth of hidden lp.

Flawless Fetus24 votes

Which is useless if you win. Post seems to be focused on climbing, not falling.

Elikain5 votes

It isn't useless. If you promote, you start from the bottom, like everyone else. Then you also get shielded for a few games, meaning that if you lose games and LP below 0, you're not going into negative LP and just one won game puts you in the positive LP. This means that neither winning or losing games loses you LP. In fact, Riot gives you a lot of leeway when you promote or fail a promotion.

LP is not lost if you don't promote and that means your LP does go over 100 but it just isn't displayed. That means if you lose LP if you have over 100 LP already, it's simply deducted from that number, not flat 100.

Not true at all. If you win your first promos (from tier to tier Eg: silver 5 - silver 4) and lose your second and third you wind up at ~60 LP (assuming you have normal gains). However, if you lose your first game, win your second and lose your third, you end up at ~80 LP. If what you said is true, in both scenarios, you should end up ~80 LP. That's why your LP theory is debunked.

Elikain1 votes

LP you gain and lose is based on how many wins/losses you have in the tier you're playing in. You're not losing more LP if you win your first promo and lose 2 others. Likewise, you're not gaining more LP if you win your second promo but lose your first and third.

Brain Errör 4043 votes

You said your LP goes over 100 and does not show. I'm telling you that's not how it works. Your LP is a static 100 and if you win a game, you gain nothing and it stays at 100. You gain and lose LP in promos as if you're not in promos, that's simply how it works. If you lose your FIRST promo game, you DO lose LP. If you win your second promo you gain your LP back. That's why people say the 2nd promo (or middle promo) game is the MOST important one.

The only factor that differentiates these are odd cases where you have an inflated winrate where the system determines you don't belong in a certain division. Losing promos won't hit you as hard if that's the case, but under normal circumstances, it works as I've said.

Nope , losing at 0 lp but not getting demoted makes you get less lp in your next matches.

This. I've said this so many times and for some reason people don't believe me.

You have to keep in mind, that the higher up or longer you play the fewer points you get.

Even some of my plat friends complain about only getting a few LP

Skins Project1 votes

It's not the longer, it's about MMR. E.G. if your MMR is say challenger due to you basically carrying games, it'll severely increase LP gain and decrease LP loss, so you don't stomp too long, the closer you are to your actual supposed position, the less LP gain there is. E.G. Ur plat friends belong in plat, n r mad they aren't climbing in plat the same speed they were in bronze.

Eedat7 votes

If you want to get rid of series then you also have to get rid of protection from falling at 0 LP.

Xonra1 votes

I'm good with that. But then you'd have to get rid of divisions cause there would be no point to them -win- d2 -lose- d3 -win- d2

It would be kind of pointless to climb divisions and then just drop then climb etc (which I think are still stupid and just showing MMR was perfectly fine before).

Owyn3 votes

remove series completely

yes please, it makes your rank depend solely on your luck (even more)

Xonra2 votes

Not sure why this is getting downvoted. It's true.

You need to get into your promos. you now have to have a 75% win rate...while the game is trying VERY hard to match you so you have a 50% win rate. So you have to suddenly beat the odds that the matchmaking itself is trying to push very hard on you.

It IS luck but less so than skill. The problem is it shouldn't have any luck involved, and aside from arbitrary rewards tacked on, the ranked system as a whole is flawed and a waste of time to force people to play more games to climb.

I agree , if they want to make us go threw promos then make those promos between Leagues only , not between every single division , and I would also like to have losing and wining lp according to our kda , I mean if I lose a match were I was 11/1/10 and my whole team went like 2/13/1 , then make me lose 3-10 lp , not 18-15 , and same for winning , if I win a match I went 1/14/0 in , I would agree to get only 3-10 lp , that would be fair since I was carried and did nothing at all , this would make the game and ranked queues more fair , believe me .

The Ghøst King2 votes

i agree

Xonra2 votes

I agree with that mostly, except the KDA part. I know for a fact people would just stop actually trying in games and refuse to team fight ever, and only split, or jungler who would refuse to gank if lanes weren't super winning so they wouldn't rack up deaths.

I do think the 50 million promos are a waste of time though to be honest. I've went on 5-7 game winning streaks then lost a promo and then gotta win 2 more games in a row just get back into the promo etc. I would be fine with taking out the promos and just going from 0-500 lp THEN get your actual promo from like gold to plat and so on. THAT is when a promo makes sense.

Why do people need promos from bronze 5 to bronze 4 for example. That's just pointlessly inflating number of games. I know MMR is what matters, but you get those end of season rewards based on your rank, even if you did have gold mmr for example.

well when I said KDA , I was aiming more like for everything , farm , towers , damage dealt or shielded or healed , to be more specific , more like about the rate you got after the game , such as A , A- , A+ S- generally as how much you carried , of course it won't be much fair since people will steal farm or won't end untill the farm more but believe me , better than the current system .

I main tank. And I'm telling you right now I'd never be the one engaging. Because I'm always the one losing lane to teleport bot and get my adc a kill, and dying first in team fights. I wouldn't play hard engaging champs at all anymore. I'd go straight to maining adc and playing vayne or something.

A tank wouldn't die , and besides ,if you die for 2 or 3 kills is positive isn't it ? 3 assists.

what would also be nice is if we got the extra xp from getting into series tacked on after the series ends. Nothing feels quite like having 99 LP, cause you know you're gonna have 15-20 LP that you fought hard for wasted.

PhDs Nuts2 votes

Remove promo series and division borders completely, and just show a flat value of MMR. If you're matching games by MMR anyway, it's stupid to have to have a 75%+ win rate to get to/win a promo series when you're matched against people the system is trying to give you a 50% win rate with that are 2+ divisions above your current rank.

Keep the bronze-challenger rankings, but make it a completely superficial overlay for ranges of MMR (like 0-599 is bronze, 0-100 being bronze 5, etc), and give out ranked rewards based on an MMR number cutoff. Silver 5 starts at ~600, gold 5 starts at ~1200, so you get the victorious skin if you finish the season at 1200+ MMR.

Or get rid of MMR instead and match games specifically by division, keeping players within +/- 1 division from the median of the game.

  1. This was how league was at the start. It was boring.

  2. See point 1

  3. You would see astronomical que times, with smurfs destroying ques more than they do. If I wasn’t playing against high plat players in Silver 1 on my LAN account, I could go through the games one handed.

Xonra2 votes

I disagree that it was boring. I also disagree with that point as if this has made it "more exciting" because it hasn't.

Why would queue times change at all? They wouldn't, because you are matched by mmr still, again making ranks pointless. They are just an overlay and a pointless way to slow progression with promos. There would be literally no difference in queue times for 99.9% of players.

Niaphim2 votes

At this point I'm all for removing promos (preferably temporarily) just for people to realize it's not what is holding them from climbing in any reasonable way. It is about mmr, not lp. You'll catch up in lp anyway if you win enough games and vice versa.

So yeah, remove series, can't wait for a new excuse why people are stuck where they are, because it can't be skill, totally not.

Xonra1 votes

I wouldn't mind getting rid of them because I would 100% be higher without promos. When I win 5-7 in a row, , get to promos, then I stumble (or not depending) and that drops me back down to start all over climbing, it does get old. Not the only reason I'm not climbing, cause I'm not good, but I'm almost always above a 50% win rate regardless.

They aren't the main problem, but they are a needless frustration point there for no other reason than to inflate games played and unnaturally slow climbing.

Although i do feel that losing lp while in promos is trash tier, Promos themselves feel fine.

Tbh getting lp after promoting wouldn't make sense since you won the games to promote and then you also got lp for them which would mean double the reward but removing promos would be fine. Promos are dumb anyway

I do in fact want the series to change or be removed in some way, this suggestion would not make for a meaningful solution IMO. it wouldn't address the issues, and would only inflate how highly people go before they have the consistent skill to belong there - what it would do would increase how often it feels like you're playing with someone who doesn't belong in your games. and how often you are way overmatched yourself. it would only increase the times people tilt, and by how badly they do so.

Xonra1 votes

It wouldn't inflate anything because your rank means literally nothing compared to who you are matched with. Rank is literally pointless because it matches you by MMR so you could be in silver with mid gold mmr and never match with a silver player unless they also have higher mmr. You could also be in gold and be matched with silvers cause your mmr is barely good enough for gold.

So it wouldn't inflate a single thing, because the overlay (ranks) means nothing to who you are matched against. Most of your points are just wrong in that respect because again, it wouldn't matter if you were suddenly gold, if your mmr is what matters. If would just mean more people would be in gold too and likely spread out the playerbase a bit honestly, but nothing at ALL would change as far as matchmaking.

What do you mean "if you win series/promos you get nothing"?

Promoting is your reward.

If you lose your series then you have to lose LP or else you will stay at 100 LP and still be in your series??

Even though you start at 0LP you still have room to lose because after winning a series you have to lose hard like 4 or more in a row before you demote.
