Does anyone even take ultimate hunter in domination ?

option paralysis··16 votes·13,853 views

I used to take the 15% cdr ultimate almost always in sorcery, but literally never took it in domination since they transfered it. Why would I ? There's too many better choices there, if you're a jungler you need ms, if you're a laner with healing you take the healing part, and even ms too for roams and supps take the item cdr one. So, what was the reasoning for transfering it from sorcery ?

I take it on nocturne... But his ult has a long cooldown.

I take it on Kayle

The cooldown ends up being 40 seconds in the late game which is pretty ridiculous.

Plus, I can pick up Cheap Shot to get even more bully potential with my Q + E

Take ignite and go PTA + Sorcery for trans...From one kayle player to another ignite feels really good when you have bully potential early.

I would take it too, but Precision primary + Sorcery secondary is too important to pass up. Sorcery secondary so that you can take Transcendence, and with it + Nashors + Ionian Boots, you have 40% CDR so that you can always have Kayle's E up.

That is one of the reasons why I disliked Ultimate Hat being removed from the Sorcery tree. I used to take it on Kayle and on other champions where I would take Sorcery secondary and were reliant on ultimates. Now I take Gathering Storm, which gives better late game scaling, but the lower ultimate cooldown was more important.

See my reply to Abyssmal Hydra.

There I explained why I don't take Transcendence.

Taking good secondary runes and stacking them where you have to choose is kind of their trend at the moment.

At least that's the way I see it. If I go domination, idc what my secondary tree is as much...resolve for bone plating seems optimal, but I do like sorcery for the bonus movement speed in river OR gathering storm.

I take it on Nocturne too . Precision of mind + ultimate hunter will make you ult every minute and a half or so at level 1

Whats your build? I run hail of blades, sudden impact, eyeball collection, ultimate hunter and item 1400 item 3147 item 3006 item 3078 item 3095 item 3087.

Depending on matchups . if carries are squishy Electrocute/sudden/eyeball/ultimate hunter - celerity waterwalking

item 1412 / item 3147 / item 3026 / item 3142 oritem 3742 .

If I'm playing it top : Conqueror / precision / alacrity / coup de grace - Bone plating chrysalis

item 3077 into item 3071 - item 3748 - item 3022 - item 3812 or full tank

Akali is SO HOT2 votes

It's pretty good on a few champions. Nocturne, Karthus, and Shen (depending on your playstyle) all like it. I know some Leblanc players like to take it on her, but I don't. Can't really think of any others off the top of my head, but there are definitely a few that like it. The rune is more niche than it was before, but it still works.

Ultimate Hunter is better than the other Hunter runes on quite a few champions.

If your champion doesn't rely on sustain or item actives, and especially rely on ultimate being up to function, then Ultimate Hunter is a fantastic option. An example of such champion is Fizz, because he doesn't need the sustain from Ravenous Hunter and while Ingenious Hunter is good for reducing Hextech Protobelt and Zhonya's cooldowns, having his ultimate up more times is a better choice most of time.

Another example of such champion is Malzahar, he is very reliant on his ultimate and doesn't rely on item actives or sustain.

On other hand, on someone like Vlad, Ravenous Hunter is better. While his ultimate is quite powerful, the sustain from Ravenous Hunter ultimately outclass it on Vlad.

On some supports, Ingenious Hunter may or may not be a better choice, depending from how much they rely on their ultimates. Lulu, for example, rely a lot on her ult, but she buys quire a few items with actives.

Ultimately (no pun intended) it is a matter of how much your champion rely on their ultimate ability to work.

Here are the numbers assuming they are fully stacked

Ingenous Hunter item 3157 72 seconds cooldown (48 seconds reduction) item 3152 24 seconds cooldown (16 seconds reduction) item 3340 144 - 72 seconds cooldown (96 - 48 seconds reduction) item 3364 54 - 36 seconds cooldown (36 - 24 seconds reduction)

Ultimate Hunter RANK 1 (0% CDR) 85 seconds ultimate cooldown (15 seconds reduction) (40% CDR) 51 seconds ultimate cooldown (9 seconds reduction)

Rank 2 (0% CDR) 72.25 seconds ultimate cooldown (12.75 seconds reduction) (40% CDR) 43.35 seconds ultimate cooldown (7.65 seconds reduction)

RANK 3 (0% CDR) 59.5 seconds ultimate cooldown (10.5 seconds reduction) (40% CDR) 35.7 seconds ultimate cooldown (6.3 seconds reduction)

That is assuming Ultimate hunter is multiplicative with CDR like Ultimate hat

Blitzcrank is a guilty pleasure, Having his ult practically on the same cooldown as his hook feels strangely amusing, coupled with zombie ward or ghost poro (Because support) or cheap shot (If AP mid).

Urgot Is another guilty pleasure, with ultimate hat and cosmic insight, his ult gets to around a 30 second cooldown at max rank.

Im not quite sure why they moved it however, it dose seem to fit better under sorcery, it also feels like Nimbus cloak would work better under domination, so thats up for debate.

As for why you would take it: Some solo laners don't want ravenous if their primary damage is entered around autos since Rav heal is only on spells, examples would be Aatrox and Tryn.

Some support don't take the item cdr mainly tanky ones who build items like Zekes and knights vow, maybe even locket, champions like Blitz and Leo come to mind here.

As for jungles wanting movement speed, I do agree here, they like getting where they need to be and quick, or maybe you just want to be a fast horse. The only jungles who I would invision who's ult massively increases their banking power, or in the case of Ivern, have a pet that they want up more often, some champions that could come to mind here are Nocturne, Skarner or Yi.

Alex h87211 votes

Blitzcrank rank 3 base ult cooldown is WAAAAAAAAAAAY too low

Oleandervine2 votes

The problem here is two fold - the new Ultimate Hunter is COMPLETELY outclassed and duplicitous of Presence. Both require killing enemies to be completely functional, except that Presence will give you a heap more CD refund on your ult plus more mana for getting kills, and it keeps stacking on subsequent kills, AND it can function at any point during your ult's cooldown period. It also works way better with execute champions like Urgot and Pyke, because you'll refund your own ult by using it, and you'll progressively get your ult up faster in team fights by helping and killing. There's no real reason to take Ultimate Hunter over the other 3 options, like you've said, and they've basically turned the rune into a more pitiful version of Presence.

I take it on ahri/syndra if I opt into electrocute.

Take ignite

I like TP more since it allows me to return to lane quickly if I get ganked (which Kayle is very vulnerable to), it also allows me to TP gank bot (which is really important) and it allows me to splitpush in the late game.

go PTA

I usually take Lethal Tempo because the early attack speed on Kayle is atrocious. You won't be able to proc Press the Attack on the enemy laner in the early game without taking some serious minion damage in the process, and it also allows me to delay my attack speed items so I can build attack damage instead in order to bully with my 100% AD scaling Q.

  • Sorcery for trans

I don't really need trans since my build already gives me 40% cdr. I also don't feel like the runes in Sorcery are "that" good, mostly just pure damage or movement speed shit.

( Build: item 3042 item 3040 item 3508 item 3115 item 3091 item 3124 )

Champion Skin1 votes

Why would you build item 3508 ? The reduced cooldown on basic abilities doesn't seem that good? I guess it is just to give mana to power item 3042 ? Or is it because the stats are good enough even if you don't benefit as much from the reduced cooldown on basic abilities?

70 AD = great.

300 mana = okay.

20% cdr = kinda unnecessary because you also buy Seraph's and Nashor's but otherwise great.

Mana regen on auto = EXTREMELY GREAT.

Bonus Attack Speed during ult = great.

Reduce cooldowns = kinda meh but Q and W cooldown being reduced allows you to stick to your target for longer.

If you went Trans that excess 20% CDR would be converted to 40 AP/24 AD, plus an extra 20/12 when you hit level 10.

Is goon on Electrocute Ahri

NekoniClaws1 votes

As a support it suits me fine, though I'm aware it's not the 'op.gg recommended builds'.

I took ultimate hat, and now I take ultimate hunter, but on slightly different champions (situationally): Ultimate hat: Janna, Rakan, Nami, Lux, Morgana (RARELY on: Leona) Ultimate hunter: Leona, Lux, Morgana (not yet decided to take it on Janna, Nami or Rakan)

So it my champion is a mana hungry healer / shielder, I NEED to take sorcery for aerie / manaband and resolve secondary for healing. If they're a playmaker and I can benefit from bonus damage in trades in lane or taking zombie ward, I'll get that. As a lane-based playmaker, MS and healing aren't my usual concern.

So, what was the reasoning for transfering it from sorcery ?

It was probably too popular in sorcery, so they wanted to make you choose which tree.

Automated Riven1 votes

Nope. The takedown requirement was a huge nerf. And domination is less useful to splash to get it.

Meep Man1 votes

I use it on people that rely a ton on their ultimate, like Cho'Gath and Dr. Mundo.

Rexxiee1 votes

On electrocute lux its probably the best one of that row to take.

IcyPepper1 votes

I take it on Lulu. Not sure if it's optimal or not, but I like taking it.

wildfox991 votes

yes,the difference is that now only the champion that REALLY depends on their ult take it,for example on Ahri is pretty much a core

EDIT:

anyway i agree it's not as trong as others, not because 15% isn't good but because of the way it stacks with CDR

currently if you have 40% CDR the reduction it's the 15% of 60%,so the effective reduction is 9%

if it would stack with CDR (15% + 40% = 55%) it would be fine

Rathar Dashing1 votes

Why not PoM? The bonus attack speed from going Precision secondary would probably be great with her high base attack speed. Plus then you have extra mana regen, too.

Why not PtA? The bonus attack speed from going Precision secondary would probably be great with her high base attack speed. Plus then you have extra mana regen, too.

why not both?

domination (electrocute - sudden impact - eyeball - ultimate) + precision ( presence of mind + coup de grace)

btw PtA is press the attack and PoM presence of mind,if you are going Ap it's not good

Rathar Dashing1 votes

pfft you know what I meant

Spice POWAH1 votes

I take ultimate hunter when I'm going in electrocute or whatever and the champ i'm playing is very ult reliant. I take the healing one only when i'm playing someone who'll be in a fight for a long time, like akali or something to augment her healing. I wouldn't take it on Talon or, like, zed or something. and taking ultimate hunter over relentless is supposed to be a tradeoff, according to riot.

To answer your other question, they transferred it from sorcery because they thought it'd fit better in domination, not to mention ultihat just rewarded you for doing something you were going to do anyway no matter who you are (cast your ultimate). Also, they way it stacks means in some situations it can be stacked faster than ultihat anyway. Depending on how much of a fiesta your game is you can stack it at level 1.

Ingenious hunter (item CDR) completely overshadows it. If you build even one activatable, the amount of power it gives is unreal.
