Let's talk: Mordekaiser - Master of Metall

Mordekaiser used to be an extremely popular and fun champion, he once was a tank, once was a hyrid champion and after continious nerfs he became a pure AP-caster. While a lot of nerfs were justified, time wasn't kind to him. Mobility & high range meta combined with powerful early game assassins make him a bad pick in any situation these days. He gets kited by mobility and range champions from the first category and destroyed in lane by the 2nd type due to his high health cost early on. While he can be succesfully played in lower Elos (like anything), picking him above Silver will most likely significantly cripple your team. Whiel this is not a power related issue - his model and animations are horribly outdated.

In my eyes Morde is beyond simple power fixes. He needs his kit to either get reworked, or at least adjusted with either range, mobility or CC.

What are your thoughts on Mordekaiser - and if you had the chance, how would you improve him?

Mordekaiser himself NEEDS a visual update. Stand beside the new Sion, and it's pretty sad that Morde is half the size.

On a sitenote: His ultimate DEFINITELY has to get a visual update - similiar to Garen's ultimate. Even though it's so weak compared to Jynx or Darius ultimate - Garen's ultimate simply looks overwhelming.

I'm playing him with high success (Normals, but I see far worse players in Ranked). And build him rushing the 12% SV gun and then a defense item (usually Spirit Visage building midway a high AP item). Then I build the other defensive item (Armor) and proceed to the AP items which depend on the enemy team composition.

Like this you get the tankiness you need when your shield is down and are still capable to soak a whole team damage by spamming abilities and placing good Rs.

I'd just give him a small buff:

  • His W should be castable on enemies, same damage effect (numbers could be tweaked) plus a slow.

He represents the Ineluctable Death coming for you.

Morde needs very little in the way of change (in my experience he can proform into High Gold) a slow or mini stun would really be it. his current kit is fine as far the meta goes, because a rework would probably leave him feeling like Cass does atm

While I dislike the Cass rework, there were other reworks which went really well. Personally I like the new Soraka way better than the old one. I don't think we have to be scarred of rework just because one Riot employee had to redesign a champion he had absolutely no clue of.

Suggestion:

Q: Mace of Spades Range: 750 (Skillshot) Cooldown: 8 / 7 / 6 / 5 / 4 Cost: 25 / 32 / 39 / 46 / 53 HEALTH (Upon hitting a champion half of the cost is refunded) Active: Morekaiser smashes his club into the ground, damaging all enemy units in a line. If a only a single is hit this ability deals increased damage. Magic damage: 80 / 110 / 140 / 170 / 200 (+ 40% AP) (+ 100% bonus AD) Single target magic damage: 132 / 181.5 / 231 / 280.5 / 330 (+ 66% AP) (+ 165% bonus AD) (Same as before) Passive: If an ace i scored within 8 / 10 / 12 / 14 / 16 seconds of Mordekaiser damaging an opponent he gets a shield euqal to 75% of his life for 15 second.

Explanation Morde's Q now is a skillshot and has slightly increased range. It has a new passive which is triggered once the enemy team is aced, giving him an extremely powerful shield to tank and push towers. Since it only triggers upon acing an enemy team the long duration won't interfer with enemy champions respawns (unless they use revive...)

The passive effect and how it is triggered is based on the reference of this ability. Mace of Spades is a reference to Ace of Spades.

Passive: If an ace i scored within 8 / 10 / 12 / 14 / 16 seconds of Mordekaiser damaging an opponent he gets a shield euqal to 75% of his life for 15 second.

"Hey, since no1 is alive to damage (and potentially kill) you we'll give you a massive shield that expires waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before even a minion can actually respawn and be a treath"

If it ever Morde has to get a passive after and Ace it should be something like increased damage on buildings/neutral monsters or a death aura for nearby minions.

Also I don't like the Sion E like Q, I like far more the actual chain+isolation buff. It's Morde's "To the FACE!" skill afterall.

That buff for solo'd targets is what he currently has on his Q.... The whole damage component is unchanged...

As for shield vs damage against towers, both could work - a shield however requires more teamwork than flat damage, thus it'ld be my primary choice.

Mordekaiser kicks early assassin ass, I don't know what are you talking about.

Your health cost should be easily less severe than how much damage the enemy takes.

Mordekaiser has the best 1v1 laning out of the entire league, and the only problem he suffers from is lack of CC and mobility, which he makes up for with low CD spell rotation and shield generation.

What he should have is better damage mitigation mid-late game to solidify his tanky damage role. I don't want to see another champion with mobility stuck up his ass just because the meta demands it.

Ideally, morde should have either a slow or speedup attached to him. nothing above 30% but enough allow him meanfulness outside of a solo snowball. a ministun would make sense both in terms of lore and in terms of his lower mobility game play. most reworks for morde are either going to turn him more tanky or try to more evenly redistrubute his power.
