Like, I remember a time when it was a thing, then it just kinda died out and and was never played again. Like, he's a pretty awesome roamer, and that's why he's a good jungler, but I don't really see why middlesticks died out completely.

Hinro Honato2 votesHe's outshined by pretty much every mid laner. His waveclear is meh at best unless you want to ult minions. Everything he does cho'gath does but better except in one regard. And that's the ult. fiddlesticks ult can be way more devastating.
fiddle has some glaring weaknesses which can be exploited to hell and back in the current meta. He isn't a tank killer which is kinda what is needed in the current meta. He isn't going to 100-0 an enemy carry unless he is just insanely ahead. In a lot of games you will be up against two or more tanks which fiddle really can't do anything about. He can't escape them or break through without his ult and his ult is quite honestly easy as fuck to stop.
In a 1v1 duel he will win most of the fights against anyone who isn't building tank if they don't have a way to get away and break his tether drain or a displacement.
I like middlesticks and I have some good memories of that magic bird flying way off into the distance for a kill. He is a strong champion but right now he's just outshined hard. Most of the meta midlaners have either tons of waveclear, dashes, or enough burst to delete him and usually a combination of at least two of them.
His time will come again but right now it just isn't the time.

BiggestNoob3ver1 votesMids usually have CC and poke. Fiddle has CC for sure but he lacks particularly good cheap poke. Poke would be fine for him to face if he had infinate mana. He does not though. So he is likely to run OOM before killing people. He also lacks a good way to clear waves outside of ult. So he could get pushed in easy.
His lvl 6 all in seems quite strong. If you like him play him mid I guess.
Honestly though I don't wanna see Fiddle in mid lane. If he "works" he could potentially be absurdly annoying to face.

It's still a thing - Fiddlesticks just never really rode a popularity wave that made him feel like an obvious thing.
He's pretty much always had pretty standard and median play-rate statistics. Way under the average because the top ~15 champions hog up close to ~50% of the play-rates and popularity chart.
Compared to the times I've seen him in jungle vs. mid - I can't say middlesticks isn't a thing. Fiddlesticks just has small sample sizes for his strategies being a thing.

He can't follow them either because his roams require him to plan ahead of time, due to all the channels in his kit, his lack of escapes, and his dependence on the element of surprise. If he follows them into a trap that he hasn't anticipated, he's fucked.
