I seem to remember getting flamed a few months ago
A few months ago, maybe just two, I made a thread about the vayne balance problem. I wonder what those little flamers would say now, when my godlike powers of prediction have been validated.
Haha jk. Any idiot watching the game for 3 years or more could see this shit coming. Riot is using artificial intelligence to balance this game. Its probably deep learning software and its very effective. Its the reason you sometimes see really small adjustments to the champions which somehow do a remarkable job of reining them in.
Using this software, they have been able to moderate one of their most toxic balancing strategies. Basically for years, they would avoid fixing the core issues that cause champions like vayne to be broken by making them practically unplayable. But since they are human, they always did a really ham handed job to ensure that the champion wasnt a real issue in the game. Lacking computational accuracy, they always over gutted the champion to ensure that it remains swept under the rug. So they still do the same thing, but now the AI allows them more accuracy in doing this.
I think we are going to see a new behavioral pattern with all the champs riot has swept under the rug in lieu of actually fixing, and that pattern is going to look like sudden spikes in win and play rates just like we are seeing with vayne right now. When you take a broken champion and make it unplayable by only a very small margin, this is what you get.
I dont particularly like it. The AI is going to find a way to tone vayne down and its going to come at the expense of the rest of the game and I suspect that attempting to balance an unbalancable champion like vayne will degrade the AI.
On the other hand, the AI might just start doing such a good job that we will start seeing pre-emptive nerfs as it learns to predict these broken champions and their toxic spikes.
