We wouldn't be so dependent on instant-waveclear if towers were more intuitive to defend
Seriously, you don't pick waveclear, and it's a giant flashing neon-pink sign hanging over your team's head saying "5 man deathball mid - we can't fucking stop you LOL".
Hell, with towers taking 2 and a half years to clear a full minion wave, a few stiff breezes are enough to knock them down.
Damage is so high that forcing a fight - especially from behind, can straight lose you the game.
Towers are just far too difficult to defend, because insta-waveclear is the only way to do so.
Give towers a more intuitive way to be protected, or at least some form of defensive steroid against unbalanced champion numbers, and this problem could potentially solve itself.
