PBE Hecarim Changes - What does it mean for Top and Jungle Hecarim

For context: Hecarim Rampage (Q) mana cost increased to 32/35/38/41/44 from 20/23/25/29/32 Rampage (Q) damage penalty against monsters removed (was 66%) (Note it is only removed for monsters, the penalty still applies to minions).

For Top lane Hecarim, who's rocking a well-above 50% win-rate, this is a clear nerf. It will help him clear the level 1 jungle camp faster to get to lane, but otherwise he just has higher mana costs and gains nothing in return. Most Hecarim's start Flask in top lane, which may help him keep enough mana. Maybe you'll need to start building Sheen before Phage for the extra mana. Whether the huge increase in mana costs (over 50% pre level 6) simply bring Hecarim in line top lane or push him out completely is the only question to ask.

For Jungle Hecarim (where I've played him for the majority of my time in league), this may be a buff? Jungle Hecarim sits slightly below a 50% win rate, so that would be what I think Riot is intending. The damage against monsters is clearly a buff, the mana costs clearly a nerf. With Blue buff on his first clear, the increased mana cost shouldn't mean much - unless his blue gets stolen in which case jungle Hecarim would be VERY far behind. As Jungle Hecarim I can already do a full clear to level 4 with the reduced Q damage, so with the damage buff that first clear is going to be much easier (possibly even practical to gank afterwards). The mana costs may mandate buying a mana potion on the first back though. Or keeping second blue for yourself instead of giving it to mid. Jungle Hecarim doesn't get to see early mana since he finishes his jungle item before going for TF or Iceborn Gauntlet and thus doesn't get Sheen as early.

Overall, I actually like the change. Brings Hecarim back to the Jungle, stops him being a perma-ban top. Players can work around the mana issues by altering their build paths. I think the mana cost increase may hurt a lot more than first impressions, I remember season 4 Hecarim had major mana problems in the easier jungle... We'll have to see I guess.

Note: By 'still good' in the poll below, I mean that he's still playable top. I don't mean that the nerf won't affect him top.

my personal opinion is that its a double nerf

top heca wont be a ble to lane as good thats a fact and was intended while jungle heca will either be out of mana when he wishes to gank, out of mana after a gank, or out of mana before the teamfight ends

maybe late with gauntlet he will do, bnut i dont see him managing his mana early/mid game, and blue isnt eternal, rampage is just too spammy to increase its mana cost

"maybe late with gauntlet"

Curious on your thoughts here... when I play Jungle Hecarim my build is: Machete+2HP > Upgrade Machete + Long Sword + 2 HP > Warrior Enchant > Sheen > Glacial Shroud > Iceborn Guantlet > full tank i.e. Gauntlet is my second completed item after my Jungle item. If I substitute one of the two health potions on the first back to a mana potion (or clear a 7th camp / gank thanks to the extra damage on Q for just extra mana pots), the first blue followed by the mana pots then possibly second blue should take me until I at least have the mana from Sheen and Glacial Shroud.

I'm also now considering the build: Machete > Upgrade machete > Phage OR Sheen > Sheen OR Phage > Iceborn Gauntlet or Black Cleaver > Black Cleaver or Iceborn Gauntlet > Cinderhulk > full tank Which would get me Sheen's mana even faster to hopefully survive the mana nerf. Definitely agree that the mana costs will hurt if you're not careful though. An interesting way to think about it though is: Q Mana costs were increased by about 50% Q Damage to monsters was increased by 50% (from 2/3 damage to monsters to full). So if you reduce the number of Qs you do on each camp proportionally, you'll do the same Q damage for the same mana. Optimize it (kill the small creatures with Q asap then lay off on the large one) and it's inevitably a buff to your jungle clear.

this is a nerf to late early game Hecarim and early mid game Hecarim pre-Sheen but a giant buff to his early clear. Once he has Sheen or Glacial Shroud it doesn't matter.

I never have mana problems now post-Sheen or post-Iceborn. Back in Season 4 I feel like I had occasional mana problems even after getting Sheen (never after Iceborn still though). These mana changes are similar to season 4 levels I think (haven't checked) - so I'm not so sure that I'll have no problems post Sheen. Perhaps I just don't recall often enough though.
