It's a colliding skillshot that hits two units. So it would be classified as a AoE skillshot.

I think technically its AoE, could be wrong though

You're not.

No, it's classified as an AoE (all skillshots are). Things like Brand's E, Anivia's E, Syndra's R, Annie's Q and etc. are all examples of single-target. Veigar's Q is just an AoE that deals damage to the first two things it hits.

it's classified as an AoE (all skillshots are).

If a skillshot_ can damage at most one target_ (under no circumstances being able to damage multiple targets), it counts as single-target.

Examples being:

  • Morgana's Q
  • Ryze's Q
  • Ahri's Charm
  • Amumu's Q
  • Mundo's Q

Okay, sure, but 99.99% of the time, it's an AoE. :P Some are exceptions.

Those are not exceptions.

There are skill-shots which are AoE (i.e. Ryze's Q, Veigar Q, Ahri Q, Ekko's Q, Ezreal's W, Brand's W) and there are skill-shots which are single-target (i.e. those above, Ezreal's Q, Brand's Q, etc).

Just like there are targeted abilities which are single-target (these should be obvious) and targeted abilities which are AoE (i.e. Lissandra's R, Tristana's E, Lucian's Q, Kennen's W, etc).

They are separate classifications.

Your claim here was outright false.

Veigar's Q is an AoE ability since it is a skill-shot that can hit multiple targets.

It's AoE.

Something that bugs me about it is that, despite being only able to hit two targets, its spell vamp is reduced to a third effectiveness.
