Let's add 142 items, for the sake of build diversity.

If we really want classes to have a diverse set of first-buy items, let's give every champion their own unique item (142 because Viktor already has his). The items could be adjusted on an individual basis, just like the champions, and could be given ability-specific effects akin to Talents in HoTS.

The issue that would arise, though, would be in making each individual item better options than the existing first-buy items. Though that could be done by cutting the stats of all the existing first-buy items, so they don't just give everything the champ wants. Cut CDR off of most of them. Cut the number (or effectiveness) of unique passives, replacing those with the ability-specific passives of the character-specific item.

Would this be an insanely huge update and start as a balancing nightmare, basically changing the game on a level that it's never been changed before? Hell yeah. Would it be cool? I dunno. Would it make builds look a little more diverse? Yeah.

Give Lux her wand, Akali her scythe, everyone their unique swords, Brand his... Cinder? Like Bami's Cinder? As a little bonus, it'd give names to the weapons of all the characters whose weapons don't have names. Or it could be a joke, like just naming Yorick's "Shovel".

Edit: If Runes Reforged showed us anything, Riot's not against changing every single champion in such a way. Remember, they did have to individually adjust every champ's base stats to account for the loss of stat runes, on top of the yearlong scramble to adjust the new runes.

Half and half. It's a response to a thread about there not being "build diversity" for mages, where the guy ignored or was ignorant of the fact that different mages do in fact buy the different items. Because he mistakenly thinks items should always be situational, and so every mage should be able to build any of the four depending on the situation. Which just isn't how it works, since similar champions want the same stats.

Lux doesn't build GLP because she doesn't need the slow. All her damaging basic abilities already CC. Ahri does, because all she has is her charm. Swain builds Rod because he needs the health more than he needs CDR from any of the other three. Etc. But the op was under the impression that the enemies should determine whether you need one or the other.

But Lux still has her CC no matter who she's fighting. She doesn't need the added slow. Ahri still only has her charm, regardless. And Swain still has low cooldowns on short range abilities, regardless of who they're fighting.

Despite that, it could be a genuine suggestion. It would be unreasonable to even attempt it, but if Runes Reforged showed us anything, Riot's not against changing every single champion in such a way. Remember, they did have to individually adjust every champ's base stats to account for the loss of stat runes, on top of the yearlong scramble to adjust the new runes.

Idk why items have to be diverse what they need to be is balanced. If a mage just farms till luden's then they immediately feel fed. Thats more of a problem to me.

Compared to who, though? Their opponents, who are either also mages or are assassins, also feel fed at one item. So it's not a problem in their lane. Compared to fighters? They can farm until Trinity, then are just completely busted with Conqeuror. Compared to ADC's? Well, many of them are quite strong once they have Bork right now.

It's not unique to mages.
