Why did Fizz get flat damage reduction?

Don't we already have a mid laner that has damage reduction (Annie).

the fact its ONLY 4 with no scaling by level instead its scaling by 0.01 ap (which is practically no scaling honestly) its a nerf even if the damage is damage over time the fact damage is inflated says alot about his passive being useless i like his old one better it at least allows damage resist vs AD carries.

It does do a pretty good job at hitting Singed and Morgana's damage into him (until Fizz falls under ~40% hp where the pool starts doing a lot of damage) but not taking as much damage v. DoTs isn't going to stop Morg's Q from disabling Fizz' primary waveclear and only escape, nor her E removing Fizz from the game entirely.

i play Fizz ALOT so i know what im talking about in terms of Fizz efficiency combat wise. so yeah in total its a great defense vs damage over time but negligible nevertheless. if they upped the scaling to maybe 0.05 - 0.08 scaling then yes i say its great for a ALL around reduction. Fizz is my religion dammit to say otherwise is insulting to the Holy Troll Pole.

I do understand them starting low, I just hope they hotfix or in 9.15/16 buff the scaling a little.

The fear I imagine, is that bruiser Fizz will come back item 3027 item 3152 item 3102 item 3157 item 3047 item 3025 being an unkillable mess thanks to the HP/Resist stacking on every item + E + Zhonyas. Fizz was the originator of Tank Assassin builds that eventually were popularized by Akali and Ekko, and I know how much Riot hated those and wants to avoid it happening again.

they nerfed his passive again.....

Im suggesting they made the scaling low to prevent that build (310 AP + potential Gathering Storm stacks etc.) giving decent damage reduction AND high HP + resistances, on top of Bnshees + Zhonyas + Playful making Fizz take like 13 seconds to kill

no i mean in the hotfix they nerfed his passive by 1 damage point now its 3 without any compensation. thats what i meant i was dissappointed that happened well it may hurt my performance but its not like fizz needs a passive to be effective anyways. ill make it work.

He’s always had flat DR against auto attacks, they just made him better into DoTs.

its about minion waves.

The damage reduction is pretty laughable as it requires an absurd of AP to be even close to noticeable, though I am pretty sure it will help him with trades as Ignite damage would still be mitigated.

However, I would view this as a net nerf because they also removed his ability to ignore unit collision.

ignite damage would still be mitigated

.. it's True damage. I hope to god Fizz with a Yuumi attached both sitting on 25 stacks Mejais + Rabadons + Seraphs doesn't get to neuter ignite entirely.

The damage mitigation is capped at 50% reduced damage before armor and magic resist; even with all that AP, Fizz would still take some damage as normal.

Coincidentally, this makes Trundle's E the only spell to actually deal it's full amount of damage regardless of the situation (iirc it deals 1 true damage if it displaces, and I would assume that it would still deal 1 true damage instead of 0).

Any source of true damage is going to do the full damage regardless because True Damage cannot be reduced by any means.

ignite is going to burn 220 damage over 5 seconds at level x, regardless of the target. Fizz and Leona's flat damage reduction will do exactly nothing to them, or Silver Bolts, or Camille's Q2, any other instance of True damage.

If that is the case, this is a massive nerf then; at least if this pitiful amount of flat damage mitigation applied to true damage over time (which Ignite is the main one that comes to mind), this would enable changes in Fizz's playstyle, enough to compensate the loss of his ability to ignore collision detection.

In fact I would actually argue as long as flat damage mitigation has a suitable cap (50% is a good start), it should apply to all non-fountain damage since having 100 Armor or MR already reduces physical or magical damage by 50% (at least according to old formulas; not sure if they tweaked numbers), not just minor damage associated with DoT.

Of course it is the case. Also Fizz' passive isn't included with resistances. If someone with 200 AD attacks Fizz and does not crit, without armor factored in he'll take 200 damage; 400 AP Fizz reduces the damage by 4 3 + 4(0.01*400), taking 193 damage instead. With 50 armor, this is reduced by 50/150 (or 33% reduction) to 128.7 damage. At 100 armor, he would take half damage, 97.5 damage, from the attack.

This is assuming his DR comes before armor calculation, judging by reddit posts and other explanations from Fizz mains. However, Amumu's E passive is calculated AFTER armor last I checked so perhaps Fizz' is as well.

true damage is not affected by any kind of damage reduction. look at my previous statement.

fizz by himself has very little wave control, while most mid lane mages have a lot of it. the easiest way to beat him would be to constantly stack up 2 to 3 minion waves against him in the early game, and then go in and constanlty auto attack him.

if fizz tried to trade back, his single target damage would draw minion aggro and make him take 80% of his health bar in damage from minions early on.

with the flat damage reduction, he can take trades while sitting between enemy minions, and it protects him from ranged champions walking up to him and auto attacking him.
