Mages used to have 800-900 ap at full build, not it's more like 700 ap.

Am I the only one noticing this? When I started playing lol, it was about 800 -900 ap at full build, now its 700ap. Why is riot slowly taking way ap from items. Mages do not have sustain damage, they have burst. How doe you expect a mage to function when you are slowly lowering the overall AP in the game.

Gone are the days of glass canons.

Thunderlords or dft gave everyone an extra ap ratio so the total ap available had to go down.

Try grabbing blue buff. That's another 135 AP. Multiplies with deathcap for a total of 55.25% bonus AP.

item 3003 item 3165 item 3089 item 3285 item 3135 still gives you 935 AP. At a minimum. Many champions have higher than 1000 base mana at 18.

Be like NB3 and replace your boots for 1k AP easy. You can probably get away with it with Lichbane+Luden's.

Also, mages have too much burst+utility atm. Stop complaining. They deserve additional nerfs if anything.

No one builds that though. Everyone is going item 3165 item 3116 item 3157 item 3135 item 3089 or sometimes get Abyssal and no deathcap.

Well now Rylai's will be replaced with Abyssal.

I mean in theory, AP shouldn't be the end all goal of mages, Generally, your damage is. So if a mage has too much Damage + utility, Substitute some of the available AP with Mpen. And as a result, you can still get the same level of damage at the cost of your utility.

And it's that mentality that makes me feel that everybody is going to dump Crystal Scepter after the changes, simply because it isn't high AP.

Though it isn't always accurate to say that all AP champs are Burst. Ryze and Cass are both DPS champs. And for AP/AS attackers like Kayle or Teemo, you might trade AP for AS.

To be fair, they're also lowering the amount of total AD available (or at least trying to). While I'd really like to see a few changes to certain items (namely having ones that just offer raw stats but no passives and ones with weaker stats but better passives), the lack of available AP in the game is to me a better thing as it prevents things like anivia/viktor/ryze from being able to entirely 1-shot tanks even if they stack full MR.

Just rito things.

I think it might also be the taking away of the mastery that provided 5% extra ability power. Instead now it only boost abilities by 2%. Abilities not ability power. So some of your ap was probably lost in that one.

I don't think we're remembering the same game. 2 seasons ago 700 AP was pretty much the hard cap on how high your AP could be. The only champion that could ever really reach 800-900 was Veigar

I find it difficult to break 600 AP between a lot of the utility items I need to build.

Keyword : 'Need' utility just to be a factor.

i play mostly mages and i'm fine with their damage atm, they're honestly the most balanced of the champions imo
