Advice wanted :) <<<<

So I recently dropped hard in solo Q ranked. (S2 to S5 0LP 2 losses in) and I decided before I demote myself to bronze I would go back to normals and tighten up on a few things to increase my chances of winning. Last hitting, Warding, Roaming while ahead, Communicating better about summoners used. Etc. Now I made a similar post about this before asking about "what champs can I play to climb low elo solo q" and I got some good helpful responses. Now I'm going to ask a similar but yet more specific question. Which AP champ would you solo Q top with if you wish to carry and which AP jungler? Currently I'm liking mid Talon/Leblanc and top Riven, I'm not sold on my junglers yet but Wukong/Fiddlesticks are up there. What do you guys think?

TL;DR good top lane AP carry? (was thinking Lissandra but idk how well her "carry" potential is when compared to ppl like leblanc/talon/riven etc.

Any input is much appreciated, thank you :)

Talon is my go-to assassin, and currently I haven't lost any of my 7 ranked games I've played with him. Personally I recommend Azir because he has a massive skill-cap and for the hyper-carry element, but his 5.3 change might slow progress. When in doubt, try this cool fox-lady for her awesome mobility Ahri

Heimerdinger But uh, is this even in the right board? Heimerdinger

If Ahri i isnt banned sure, but would you consider her top? I mean it doesnt sound too bad just double checking. and yeah I could consider Heimerdinger lol

I've personally had good luck with Maokai top, he outheals most lanes, but he does kind of rely on his team.

I'm maybe not the best person to ask though, because I love to play people which rely on their team, I find that subtly improving my team is the best way to win. If they're doing so bad I can't improve them a significant amount, we were unfortunately, probably going to lose anyway. A lot of the time though, them never dying due to soraka, or basically being able to lock anyone down or escape anyone via Janna, or just take a lot less damage due to maokai is enough to push teams far enough.

It also does wonders to your attitude when you play champions where if people die, it's because they made a bad play, but relyed on you to fix it. So it's not either of your faults fully! As Soraka if I heal J4 over twitch, then twitch gets caught out, that's his fault for getting out, but also mine for not realizing he was playing stupid and saving my heal for him.

Anyway, I really probably am not the best person to ask, I don't really play seriously, I tend to play solely in normals since people are much nicer there, and tend to be much more likely to forgive you if you mess up badly. (And much readier to congratulate you when you make a huge play!)

Good luck!!!

EDIT: Thought of something else, Leblanc is very happy in the meta right now, especially the top lane meta! She's tricky to learn, but after mastering her tricks, she has unparallelled mobility and burst. If you want a champion which can carry everyone else on their back, this is a good one as far as mid and top laners go. Only big problem is that she doesn't bring any tankiness, so bringing her top lane requires either a tanky top and semi-tanky mid, or a team which can deal without strong tanks (like a team with Janna).

Yeah if you read the whole thing I put leblanc is someone im playing in mid. I guess i could consider this champ top too tho.

Oh whoops sorry, didn't see that, but yeah, one of the things I've found with Leblanc is she generally doesn't have much problem as a top laner, and it causes people to try to counter her mid.

I'm not going to disagree with you. However, I find myself to be pretty decent with a lot of champs but I'm not extremely good with any one in particular and I'm trying to change that. I would say Lee Sin is my best champ but idk if i could carry hard enuf w.him..

I've found that you just have to pick a champion you like playing (and that's the important part, that you like playing them) and play them a lot. I used to suck as Kha'zix, but I played him a lot and I started to realize that it's because he's super strong in some positions, and weaker with some teams. I then kept playing as him and I learned how to get around some of those limitations. It's still a process I'm working on, I can't do great as him all the time, but the important thing is that I enjoy playing him, regardless of whether I win or lose, so I'm able to keep learning him.

There are very few champions you're going to pick up and be good with, the real power behind a champion is playing them so much you start to learn what exactly is making you do bad, and unfortunately, you'll learn a lot more on how to play a champion from doing badly as them than you would from doing well.

I agree.. See its not that I can't have a legendary game its that if i get counter picked its usually feed mode and if sm1 is rly good with a champ despite getting countered they can still do pretty good.

It is not the champ that you are having a problem with. It is strategy.

I'm a jg/top main. I realized that I don't even need to pick the "best" champs. You need to find the champs that fit your playstyle. The rest is strategy.

Now what is strategy? It is decisionmaking, ranging from "the enemy Nasus is 2 autos away from dying, but he's frozen the wave right in front of tower. He's only lvl. 5, should I dive now?" to "I see the enemy grouped bot for dragon. I am an autoattacking jungler pushing top outer turret. If I start running to dragon now, I can possibly get there for a 5v5 teamfight. Otherwise, its gonna be a 5v4 with no smite, but I can take the tower. What do I do?" to even "Enemy has fed Malphite/Yasuo/Jinx. Our team has zero CC (say it was Zed, Nidalee, Master Yi, Vayne, Soraka) but alot of mobility. How do we win this?"

You need to think each scenario through - what is "worth" - dragon or turret? Is it that obvious? Not just gold values, but intangibles such as map pressure, vision provided by minions and setting up the next objectives.

Thats the thing with decisionmaking and strategy though. It removes the need to be godlike at a certain champs mechanics and removes the need to carry. If you pick champs like Lee Sin, then yes, you are forced to go 20-0 or your mere 5-0 start will end 10-10.
