2 changes to make Rakan more viable as a non-support

Ok sure but why··2 votes·1,497 views
  1. Let Rakan press Q a second time to detonate his heal early, without the need for nearby allies

  2. Let Rakan press E on minions or himself, granting him the shield but only being allowed to use it once instead of twice if he does so

ive been playing ap rakan since his release and if you gave him that on his e then he would actually be stupid af to play against and even worse as a support since his engage range in lane would be even longer lowering his counter play and his q delay is there to give you time to react to it so he cant just get a burst heal from nothing every 3 seconds. he doesnt need buffs

I've also been playing AP Rakan, and there have been too many games where I go in, land my W and Q on someone, and fail to E back to my teammate because the clown started running out of my dash range. He needs this. Plus, if he uses it on himself, it's only half as effective, which is a good tradeoff.

thats a team problem while it can be frustrating it makes him balanced in cases where the enemy separates you from your team its not like braum where his only mobility is that one dash, rakan would be extremely hard to actually lock down in early and mid game and this change would just give him an extra layer of health in lane which he doesnt need because he already has passive and q heal also you seem to be playing him support while going ap which doesnt show me that you know what solo lane ap rakan looks like

What if he could E to wards?

Sure, we can give this to Rakan. The moment they make his W cast time last longer than the duration of his charm before the knockup so he can't combo them together and we have an actual second to flash out of it.

Seems like it would make more sense to just not allow W while he's in his R. Like really, his rule is that W takes a second to land so that the enemy has a chance to counterplay it. Letting him charm you the instant he reaches you (likely the same instant your computer receives the packets that say "Rakan is now flying toward you at mach 10") is breaking that rule and giving him unconditional CC. Then there's his perfect lane partner Xayah, who also gets to break her own rule: "Your CC must be set up in advance" by shooting out three feathers at once because she can auto while casting her Q.

Don't give a champion counterplay and then allow them to opt out of it, Riot.

Xayah casting Q while autoing was actually removed. It could always be avoided though even when it was a thing. If you move while she Qs she can't root you, the auto feather would go to the side while the Q would be directly in front of her, because her Q is a skillshot. Xayah top was so fun when the cast+auto was a thing, now you can't really peel for yourself and it feels bad all around. I liked playing around her feathers, now she's just a right click queen like everyone else and her skills are just a side thing.

Oh it was? Cool! Yeah I imagine that would hit her ability to self-peel pretty hard. TBH i'm probably just braindead for always falling for the "it's only two feathers, she can't root me" trap so often. Before I didn't see the point in trying to poke her, since there was a double threat of being caught by CC, and a good Rakan could just outheal my pokes if he landed his Q during even half of them. Sucks that they hit her solo lane performance by killing her self-peel at the same time they fixed her engage.

You know, writing this post got me thinking about the whole trading pattern where you poke Xayah or Rakan, and then Rakan either lands his Q and heals them both, or he misses and your damage sticks. Maybe Riot could buff Rakan's solo lane performance like OP wants by changing his Q. Make it so that it splits the heal rather than sharing the full effect, then strengthen it to compensate. That way support Rakans can still do their jobs roughly the same but solo laner Rakans get a buff.

Supports turning into solo laners has almost always been incredibly oppressive. Janna mid, Soraka mid, Sona mid, Taric top...

Like you could say "Leona would be more viable as a non-support if she could trigger her own passive" and you wouldn't be wrong, but that's why her passive works like that. I'm sure that those changes would help solo lane Rakan a ton, which is why they aren't going to happen.
