First Blood is Archaic and Unnecessary
With so many runes already rewarding players for kills, and items having become far more gold efficient than they should be regardless of the role played, first blood on champions and turrets is no longer needed in this game.
At least that is what I've come to believe.
One of the best steps Riot took in gold changes was last season with bounties when they decided that players stack bounties for each consecutive kill they secure. When that player is shut down, they lose a number of stacks upon death and the number of stacks lost distribute gold evenly to the entire enemy team. A player can still maintain a bounty after a shutdown if they garnered a number of stacks after their previous death, thereby entertaining the idea that no matter how far ahead an enemy, comebacks ARE possible.
First blood gold, however, continues to promote Feast or Famine and Snowball mechanics and tactics.
Whichever player is fed earliest is, in all likelihood, the player with the winning team in more than 60% of all matches.
If Riot is so wholeheartedly intent on creating 50/50 scenarios then first blood gold on both champions AND turrets should probably be removed.
