The game is turning downhill and has been for a long time, heres why

Hibeki··32 votes·1,627 views

Its no question that people are unsatisfied with the game. Only brand new, immediate casual, or totally ignorant players are actually satisfied with the game. Every single person has something they want to see happen or changed.

#1) None of them have a voice.

I look at the patch notes in the past season, and this is what I think on every single listing.

"Yes, this is exactly what the people wanted." Obviously sarcastically.

Every single nerf or buff is totally uncalled for, and the ones that are called for on the right champions are completely miscellanious things that do either nothing at all or don't tackle the problem at hand.

For example: In season 3 when Kennen top was kinda disgusting, nerfing his base AD by .2 did not fix the problem.

>It is not possible to fix a game when you don't listen to the playerbase.

Anyone who approves of Riot's decisions in the game balance department are not satisfied with being listened to. They are satisfied with what they have to cope with

Not a single person who wanted some person nerfed has ever said "I am satisfied because what I wanted nerfed was nerfed." No, they just see "X champion was nerfed" and think 'well they got nerfed so i guess they are worse now', therefore they are satisfied.

--CONTROVERSIAL TOPIC ALERT--

Neither the boards or reddit are ever listened to. Any and all feedback seems to be taken from someone who seemingly doesnt exist, and no you cannot say that surveys are your source of information.

I have no recieved a survey in over 3 months despite playing regularly.

Any and all feedback you take are from blind yes-men or a John Doe, The people either don't exist or would agree with ANYTHING you do.

#2) Agency in this game is removed completely (Macro)

Bad players influence the game more than good players.

Almost every game is determined by who has the better botlaner. The highest damage role who seemingly have no weaknesses is the single most important role in the entire game while simultaneously the easy to play.

It is worthy to note, whether or not you agree with them being the easiest does not change the fact that they are. They are the only class in the game to focus entirely on left clicking for simultaneous burst damage and sustained damage, have the cheapest items in the game with an entire class bent around making them untouchable. The only skill they require is orb walking which can be supplemented with attack click.

So how does this reflect bad players?

Well if you get the bad ADC, you lose. Plain and simple.

Gold leads accelerate the highest they have ever been and items for the super scale are the cheapest they have ever been.

Lets take for example: Minion waves.

Did you know that by winning the game, your minions will become almost double effective? Thats right, having a higher average level or more turrets can make your minions almost DOUBLE effective against enemy minions. Meaning if you're losing, you're losing map pressure by something your opponent has literally no control over when not in the lane.

Even gold, when compared to season 3: Each minion wave gives approximately 18 more gold, which is an extra minion. Coupled with First Blood Turret bonus, turrets being made of paper, and a lower killstreak bounty means that coming back from a gold deficit when the enemy team is playing correctly is actually impossible.

Gold comes faster. Advantages come faster. One person can give the enemy team the lead that makes them impossible to deal with.

The game relies on who has the WORSE player, not who has the BETTER player. This puts the entire team hostage to the worse player, instead of the other way around.

This is not acceptable in a multiplayer game, ever. Especially not this consistently.

#3) Top lane is unplayable and does virtually nothing.

Bot lane is where its at. Top lanes sole function is to play a braindead tank, beat everything else, then teleport bot and feed your adc gold by being their sandbag. If you play anything else other than a tank top, you lose, period.

Tanks have the cheapest item sets out of any other top laner, which consist of lowering enemy ADC damage output while simultaneously have kits that are better for trading, huh.

Comparing them to ACTUAL top laners: Bruisers-

Hell of a lot lower cooldowns Hell of a lot lower mana costs Hell of a lot higher base damage Hell of a lot lower scaling (But that doesn't matter they arent building damage) Hell of a lot higher damage amplification Hell of a lot more CC

You can't trade or all in this. They kill you, they out farm you, they outdurable you. There's no point in playing anything else when you have a 250 base damage 4 second cooldown 25% armor reducing skill that also slows you. Or a 235 damage skill with a full second of irreducable CC on a 2.5 second cooldown

Yes, you heard that right. Maokai Q has a full 1.5 second downtime. Instant knockback + irreducable ministun means thats a full second of CC, Not even fiora can stick to him.

#4) Mid lanes sole purpose is to open map pressure via the T1 and T2, then get their botlane gold.

You pick a waveclear mage or an assassin, push lane and take turret then gank bot. Thats literally all you do. When your enemy laner roams, you either push the turret to open up map pressure then follow them bot lane (because they arent going top lane) or you just follow them bot lane. Your items are determined by how fast you can kill the enemy ADC.

There is no diversity here. All champions ultimately do the same job just in different ways.

#5) Junglers either cheese top level 3 because its convenient, or powerfarm to get strong to kill/lock down an adc, or just camp bottom lane.

Noticing a pattern here? The entire game is now revolved around one class. Every other role in the game and their items sole purpose is for the sake of making it easier to win via killing the enemy adc.

Also might I add, that one class is also the easiest in the game, which being easy attracts inexperienced players, which leads to you losing the game because you have the worst ADC.

Fantastic game you've got going over here.

TL:DR Games gone to shit because ADC has taken over the entire game. All items picks and roles are now based entirely on making your ADC effective while lowering their effectiveness. All adc weaknesses have been removed, gold is at an all time high, and the super carry class has the least costing items in the game. And despite all this, Riot still fails to listen to people.

You hit the nail on the head for me, especially when you mentioned that bad players influence the game more than good players. The amount of in-game agency that has been removed is ridiculous, and is worsened by the extremely poor matchmaking that hasn't been properly addressed in the LONGEST time.

  1. Being loud and being right are not the same thing. People who like what they see don't come to the boards, or reddit, to exclaim their satisfaction.

  2. With the exception of perhaps the area of silver closest to the ranked entry point, there are no "bad players" in your games, at least not bad relative to you. The players in your games have, for the most part, proven they can win about as often as you can with and against the same people you're playing with and against. That's how MMR works.

  3. What is wrong with certain champion archetypes being stronger in certain roles? People don't play tanks in mid so they?

  4. Which champion do you want to see in mid lane that is not an assassin and is also not able to push?

  5. Junglers farm, Junglers gank, and Junglers sometimes camp a lane. What else would you like them to do?

What is wrong with teams working together to empower an ad carry to carry the game? If the other archetypes are not useful, why don't we just see 3 lanes of ad carry?

2 Well then I guess that teemo top last game who int'ed after dying solo to gangplank 4 times wasn't a bad player, just a leprechaun placed by the magical riot gods.

You seriously think no bad players exist? Matchmaking is a total mess rn.

It's wrong because a single class shouldn't dictate the entire rest of the game. All the items, all the classes, all the roles actions should not revolve solely around the easiest to play role because it has THAT much power.

I mean if the feeder is you, then I don't know how you expect the matchmaker to do anything about that. It can't very well match you in a game that doesn't include you.

On a more serious note though, some people get to their rating by playing conservatively. They rarely destroy the opponent, but they also rarely feed. They play a consistently solid game, with little flash, and little error. Other players get to the exact same rating playing a very aggressive game. For them, it's feast or famine. One game, everything works as intended, and they crush their opponents, and then the very next game turret dives fail, outplay attempts go awry, and they end up feeding a bunch of kills. Neither player is a BAD PLAYER.

Congratulations, you managed to photoshop in only the bad games that were outliers purposefully excluding context in an attempt to make someone look bad.

Context like:

the 0/5 tryndamere game has a 1/17 bot lane The 0/6 Camille game we had two other people in the game who were 1/10 Or the singed game where we had a 5 tear sejuani.

I can go on. But photoshopping evidence, and ignoring context doesn't make your argument better.

Lol dude, here's your op.gg: http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=hibeki

Yes I picked out the bad games to make a point, just like you made a point of referencing one bad game for that Teemo.

But if you look at your op.gg, you feed far more often than you do well. Most of your games show you AT BEST just getting by.

In your last 10 games, you had double digit deaths 4 times, and despite playing support in only one of those games, you had more kills than deaths in only one game. In fact, you failed to reach a KDA over 2.00 in all but 3 of those games.

My point isn't to belittle you. My point is that you can have bad games without being a bad player, and more importantly, so can your teammates.

Hibeki1 votes

Well, if you looked at riots official match history (Where they show the deaths and when they happen by who) You'd notice that in 90% of the cases I do real bad, its all either

A) At the immediate start when the jungler decides to gank 4 times pre 6 and our jungler ultimately doesnt take advantage of it

or

B) Most of my deaths are towards the end of the game when the people that got super fed are now my problem to deal with.

There's more to a game than just meets the eye.

Got it. When you do poorly, it's everyone else's fault. When other's do poorly, it's because they're bad players.

Also I didnt know OPGG had timelines like that.

Disembark7 votes

This is why you can’t be taken seriously. The whole premise of your post is that “anyone that doesn’t agree with me is stupid (in terms of the game)”.

It immediately shows you’re close-minded and for some (unknown) reason you think somehow you are qualified to voice “objective concerns” for the majority.

Also if you go around with the mentality that people that don’t agree with you are somehow less informed/smart - then you are truly the ignorant one.

Hibeki1 votes

Its not even that anyone who doesn't agree with me.

The fact of the matter is 90% of the people AREN'T happy with everything Riot does. Then they make posts as if people who complain are the minority when they don't have any sources of information to provide that other than surveys that come once a year for one question.

The only people who ARE genuinely happy are the Yes men and people who play maybe once a week. At that point they would be happy with ANYTHING they did.

If you're telling me you are happy, you're telling me you dont have a SINGLE COMPLAINT with any single thing in this game? And that if you did you were confident riot would listen to you? I doubt it.

NocturnalSheild1 votes

You can please everyone half of the time or half of the people all the time. But you can never please everyone all of the time.

The game is doing great! You are making a critical mistake: you assume it is supposed to be balanced competition.

Assume: the game is supposed to make money. It does that perfectly well.

Hibeki2 votes

Really? Thats why their actions show that they are losing profit?

Reducing amoutns of free rewards because their profits are lower

Making only skins for popular champions because their profits are lower

Having the balance of a champion be completely ignored when they have a new skin soon because their profits are lower

Them doubling the amount of skins in 2017 year than 2016 year, because their profits are lower.

The issue is more companies don't like profits staying the same that's the issue with capitalism they always want more.

Also Overwatch took a huge percentage of the population.

NocturnalSheild1 votes

What... overwatch is dieing hardcore.

They cant have more than 50k people at a time.

The ques at higher levels are insane.

Mephisto31 votes

None of your connections to "losing profits" or "because their profits are lower" make any sense. If there is a point there somewhere, let me know, and I am happy to answer / discuss it.

The fact that you are writing the original post, by itself, shows that you DO care for the game. So, what you are really saying is: "I PERSONALLY want some changes in the game, but they are not incorporated, so I'm gonna say that the whole thing is going downhill".

Sorry, but that's how it is.

And also, players have a HUGE voice, ask the pro players, the players on the PBE, etc. YOU just don't have one (and I don't have one either, just to be clear). With 10s of millions of players, that's just not something that can realistically be different.

Outis1 votes

uhhh corporations do things to increase their profits every year. the only legal obligation they have is to their shareholders and their shareholders want to see an increase in profits every year. they don't only try to make more money if they lost some..... the best way to increase profit is to reduce cost, which explains most of what you said. your last point is pretty self explanatory. they put more resources into increasing the number of skins because that's what has been making them money....

besides, its obvious that they are making way more money than before (people seem to forget this game is bigger (and growing) in china than it is in the west) and that is my main problem with them. ever increasing profits (tencent made 6.3 billion usd profit in 2016) yet they are putting less and less back into the game (unless it's for something that has a direct return such as more skins) to increase their bottom line and squeeze even more money out of it.

KlydeFrog1 votes

umm the skins thing has been there for i dunno ever....also its probability there guy.....its like making cars why are you goign to make a car that isnt selling well.....for instance look at sol he only has 2 skins because he is prolly the least popular champ in the game .....sooooo yah

Riot used to not give free rewards AT ALL.

Also, they've been increasing the amount of free rewards up until recent changes.

Bad players influence the game more than good players.

This summarizes it up so good. But I wonder what the proper way to give feedback to Riot is? These issues exist since months, the boards were full of threads like that, and the game is still in a weak spot. So either we can't reach Riot or they don't care - either way, it's useless effort to point things out. I just give up, farm my FWotD, and close LoL again.

Hibeki1 votes

Im just gonna quit league for other games at this point. Im a shut in and extremely depressed so LoL takes up most my time but ill manage.

The game as a whole is quite similar now to what it's been in the past. People will always find ways to complain about anything and everything, but IMO Riot's direction with the game is sensible and if you actually look at the reasoning they give for what they do it makes a lot of sense.

I think the changes in your feelings towards the game are just that--changes in your own personal feelings due to the aggregation of smaller irritations over years, and not the result of any real significant change in the game itself. Perhaps if, instead of putting your mind to work trying to find rational justifications for every irritation you experience in-game, you looked at your own negative reaction as part of the problem, you could learn to have a better experience.

Since when the fuck is being happy considered LIFE IS LITERALLY PERFECT IN EVERY WAY SHAPE AND FORM????????

Im extremely happy with my home life but could always be richer, have a bigger house, being less fat, have a better car etc...etc....

Does that mean im actually maniacally depressed and im in denial? No... no it doesnt. Shit dont need to be perfect to be happy.

And they have listened to me before. I wanted less toxicity they introduced their systems. I wanted to play with freinds in ranked they introduced dynamic que (yea thats right. Im one of those mystical raritys that liked dynamic que)

So yea again.

dont think your speaking for everyone

I agree, the game itself is flawed but far from imperfect. Generally when people are bored or unhappy with a game, it also has to do with their daily life as well. Riot listens to ideas this community has, them have done so many times in the past.

Longtowel2 votes

This kind of stuff happens when more people play the game.

There are a lot of bad players out there, but that's to be expected.

Of course, we can't always have good games, and things can't always work out. I was at one point really bummed about the fact that I either stomp hard, or get stomped. I was upset that we could have an epic battle where two sides are performing at their peak and have a really close game.

But that's really hard to get. Since we are mostly solo players, the experience each game varies greatly depending on who you get as team mates and enemies. Communication and cooperation can be hard. We have to accept the restrictions and boundaries that this game can have when we have such a large player base.

At the end of the day, I enjoy this game a lot. More than I enjoy most other games. And despite all the toxic players afks laggers trolls and feeders, I still get very good games, challenging games, and fun games.

What I suggest for any player, from personal experience, is to play different roles, repeatedly, until you at least become decent at one or two champions for that role. When I did that, I could understand the benefits and the frustrations that come with each, and the whole gaming experiences became so much more cohesive and engaging, regardless of what I played.

As to everything you complained about in your post, I know what you're feeling, but Riot can't fix those things. If they made everything right for you, someone else is going to be upset and complain about how useless ADCs have become, or how only the Top Lane matters, or how they can't keep an advantage they worked hard for just because the game doesn't reward good plays.

Not saying that the things you pointed out are illegitimate, but people have different perspectives on how the game should be, and I think it is safe to say that overall, people are quite happy, since we are all still playing like crazy.

SanKakU1 votes

The first 4 points are either invalid or irrelevant, but the final point is mostly correct. Riot doesn't care about the state of marksmen right now, and honestly, if you don't think top lane is the easiest slot on the team, you're delusional. Everyone knows top is the easiest. The only speed bump there is there are rarely picked champions often played up there and you can get shut down for simply being a newb in not understanding your lane opponent.

Skorch1 votes

I dont know if this is "turning downhill for a long time" But these are issues yes.

Power Cosmic1 votes

I agree with mostly everything, but I think 4 is a good thing. Mid reading map and roaming to gank, or playing lane to win turret or setup ganks is quite a good thing imo.

Bad players really do carry sadface. That is why I try to tell a lot of people in game to try to learn how to help, instead of focusing just on carrying.

Riot should not be scared of big changes to the meta (jungle, bot); because the gameplay is and always will be great.
