WHO is responsible for keepingMonkeyKing untouched for 4 years?

As you can see, this is a question. and I've been asking A LOT of questions for the past year, but with no response at all.

Just because I don't post on "Memes and games" doesn't mean I should be ignored.

Reddit has extreme censorship against balance discussion

Tomoe Gozen10 votes

This isn't true. Reddit is actually moderated more "rigorously" and they don't allow the BS boards do. Not saying anything bad of our mods but if vitriolic posts were removed sooner and people slapped with warnings often for not behaving, things would be brought back in shape around here.

I don't understand why someone has to fume and froth on the mouth when making a post, specifically when it's about gameplay. If you can't even focus and calm down while making your point, there's really no reason to let that person make a point until they calm down. And yet, this is allowed and it almost always unilaterally ends up in a downward spiral where like-minded bullshitters flock together and fellate themselves, pretty much stifling any discussions that might be sent their way.

Disembark6 votes

Lol there are plenty of discussions on reddit and critiques of Riot. Such as the Zoe balance discussion currently on Reddit front page.

Also they got a lot of criticism for the OE changes too. Lots of discussion on the state of Volibear (unplayable) & how overbuffed Ornn was.

Difference is its more light-hearted and/or constructive. There is never a post that gets to the top that's like

Title: "Riot did 1 thing right" Post: "they fucked this game up haha so stupid they suck" +84

Which legit happens here all the time (I'm not even exaggerating that much which is sickening).

Also maybe... just maybe most of the playerbase isn't out to get Riot and doesn't constantly want to be at their throat for every fucking small balance descision - and instead actually enjoy playing the game and following the scene?

I know, ridiculous! Clearly everyone should hate Riot and the only reason millions still play this game is out of spite!

Me, personally? I think there are some balance issues, and I think they've made some poor design decisions - but they've done more right than wrong and I trust them to keep improving the game. So while I wait I can enjoy LCK which starts tomorrow.

LoL Reddit doesn't reward circlejerking in the same way these forums do. Shit crybaby threads get removed/downvoted, and for good reason:

They contribute nothing

Troll for Trump9 votes

Yeah instead you get clogged up with a bunch of crap. There's 1 actual post about actual gameplay on the entire front page right now. And it's about AP itemization.

The only good thing about reddit are the /r/mains subreddits.

This is such a bullshit comment.

Like HOLY SHIT

Riot communicates with its community the most out of any single video game company of their size. This is a fucking FACT.

These boards are such circlejerking garbage now. Thank god the reddit exists.

Troll for Trump6 votes

Reddit is just circlejerking in the other direction. Thank god boards exist.

Now you can have actual discussions.

Disembark3 votes

If by "actual discussions" you mean boards then lol.

T4underbolt3 votes

Its as a fucking fact as saying this game has the most free stuff given to players. Its not. If you didnt get a hint Riot communication is shit. They dont care about players demands at all. Now they even close threads that are not convienent for them. They are deaf for real problems. How many easy to fix but game or champ breaking bugs hasnt been touched? Hundreds. How many times they didnt nerf or keep broken some champs/items to appeal to casual freelo over game balance? All the time. People ask for reduced snowballing, they give turrets 200 hp but buff minions hard and end up nerfing turrets. Now they spit at us with pathetic 10 resistance buff that is a nerf to later in the game which changes nothing. They dont care. They are only good in ignoring.

ISLAMICWARRIOR992 votes

Bc 99% of player demands on the boards are irrelevant and flat wrong lol. Only valid complaints ive seen are about champs that mains in large would like reworked or have modernized healthy kits. I mean 90% of this board rn is crying about adc being op when they plain aren't.

AirKingNeo3 votes

Well, I would too if answering questions here would bring to the conclusion that you should lose your job over the complains.

In 15-20 years in the future, this (shit balance and lack of response) wouldn't fly because there would be news about this.

Ralanr7 votes

I find it extremely unlikely that our future is that focused.

Void Baboon RF2 votes

They already do. Meddler posting his ramblings every week that show us exactly how unqualified he is isn't communication. They spend most of their time on reddit posting useless fluff memes and taking 2 ad off teemo and calling it 2 weeks worth of work.

RiotSparkle39 votes

Ok, let's talk about this for a sec. This is not a great way to communicate, so I (and most other Rioters) would generally ignore this topic. Let's talk about why, though. I feel like you're trying to follow some of the rules of good communication and are currently frustrated with your lack of responses. So, some reasons why you might not be getting the replies you're after:

  1. This topic is an opinion disguised as a question. You probably knew this one. No, it's not somehow better when posted in this format. As my father used to say: "I didn't fall off the turnip truck yesterday" which in this case translates to "I can see this is still a statement even though you put a ? at the end". The opinion you hold here that you're trying to get across in this question is that Wukong should be "touched" but you offer no indication for what you actually want to talk about or are unhappy with (why touch him? The gameplay? The visuals? His backstory? A particular ability? His interactions with items or runes or whatever?).

  2. You're actively asking for a head to roll. This topic is literally asking "hey which Rioter can I yell at for this thing?". So like, you're not actually dodging the "blaming" thing from your topic title at all.

  3. You're somehow implying one dude is in charge of making Wukong decisions or something, idk. That's not how it works. There is like, actually literally no answer to your question because that's not how decision making happens on League of Legends. I have no idea how you think we work, but it's not like we have weekly Wukong meetings or something. If you wanted to know more about that decision making, that would be legit but that's not what you asked.

Now, if anyone has a genuine question I'm usually more than happy to answer if I know an answer or direct someone to the conversation if it will be productive. A topic/start like this wouldn't make for productive discussion though. However, I wanted to let you know why this topic wouldn't usually get a response, because you seem frustrated with the lack of responses in general.

EDIT: A lot of you have really good questions about champions below that I honestly don't know the answer to. I will see if I can ask some folks about them tomorrow though, but can't promise anything will come of it.

Electro5222 votes

Mind if I ask if you guys have a certain number of runes being worked on? I know Meddler talked about one that's being tested right now that is similar to DFT? Or am I wrong on that?

Or, is all of this under wraps?

RiotSparkle10 votes

Currently testing quite a few normal runes in different trees as well as the keystones mentioned recently by Meddler (Spellbook changes and a new keystone in testing)

EDIT: Will mention that the keystone in testing is not DFT-like, though we've mentioned we're watching mages that favored that keystone in the older system. Keystone in testing is bruiser related. Here's the link to the comment

Mysticman892 votes

Who gets to decide what is ok to share with players versus whats hush hush top secret project stuff?

Electro5221 votes

Well.....pretty much anything that hasn't been revealed is "hush hush top secret stuff". Anything that has been revealed isn't.

Simple as that.

Mysticman892 votes

...the logical implication of that is nothing can ever be revealed.

Experience shows this is not the case, so someone is allowed to decide to reveal things that have not been previously revealed. The question is essentially how high up the ladder do things tend to go before the person is allowed to discuss what they're working on if they wish (they often may not want to for reasons of managing expectations or because they plan on bigger reveals, but they'd be allowed to casually mention it on boards or twitter or in chat or whatever if they wanted).

RiotSparkle5 votes

There's always a risk talking about things that aren't finished yet - if a feature doesn't happen (or is pushed back) or if players build mental expectations around what it should look like or if you say the right thing in the wrong way, it can end in a lot of disappointment rather than excitement.

Part of it is how much an individual designer/Rioter actually wants to talk about stuff beforehand or how confident we are that the thing will actually end up in player hands, knowing those risks.

I don't think any Rioter would ever want a reveal to cause unhappiness rather than happiness when talking about work in progress stuff, so it's a lot of best judgement.

RiotSparkle7 votes

Well we only ever share info for the teams we're on. So I will never talk skins for example, or reveal a champion or even talk balance.

If it's a project you're working on, it's up to your own discretion. I usually ask teammates if I'm not sure if it's too early to say something about a rune or feature.

Also I will repeat answers that others have given at any time. :)

iahim981 votes

Any news about being able to mass disenchant champion/skin shards?

RiotSparkle4 votes

Nope, no idea. Not my team.

SonicÐeHedgedawg1 votes

If memory serves, Meddler never said they were going to re-introduce a DFT-like rune... He actually said the opposite suggesting DFT had pretty low actual gameplay associated with it.

What I remember him saying was that he'd look at champs who used to love DFT and see if they were adjusting to the new rune system well and if not they'd see if they could think of a rune that fits them.

I think after the DoT lowering meteor's cooldown, most former DFT champs found their home there with a few outliers that prefer aery and even fewer that prefer phase rush.

Either way, there are now a few champions that don't really have an ideal rune, (malz and Vlad for example), not a whole swath, so any rune we get to help them may not remotely resemble DFT since it doesn't need to fit nearly as many champs

RiotSparkle3 votes

This is correct to my knowledge, yes. Hence the "monitoring". :)

This is the perfect response to this kind of thread, thank you for taking the time to write it. I feel like it's sometimes a difficult balance between a company employee pointing out bad behavior on their consumer base's part, and them coming across as unprofessional for it, but this is a good way to state exactly what the problem is, and offer firm criticism in a manner that is fully respectful and contributive to positive discussion, even when the OP in this thread did not make that same effort.

On the topic of Wukong, what would be the general feel you have for divers, and Wukong specifically? From what I understand, there was a diver update planned for late 2017 that got scrapped after the Tank Update: was there work underway for specific champions already, or was the project halted sooner? I feel divers may have become a more sensitive subject, Wukong included, because it doesn't feel like the fighter class has received that much focused attention for some time, at least when compared to other classes (supports have just received a mini-rework to their itemization not long after support quests were added, for example).

That wouldn't make sense for me. Does killing a Heimer Turret really have a grave? I wouldn't get the logic of bringing back up a grave and its a dead robot looking thing. I think the point of that is killing creeps or champs give a grave and then a minion comes..

This is just my opinion -- could be totally off.

1

Pure excuse, designed to avoid discussion. There is a problem, Rito has a company policy refusing employees to admit the existence of problems. Cause League is apparently "perfect" and Rito doesn't make mistakes.

Hell, I could point out that YOUR interpretation of his question being an "opinion" is far more "opinion" than the question that you're attacking. "X champion hasn't been touched" is not an opinion, it's an observation about patch history. You're falsely calling it an opinion to excuse your intentional avoiding of real discussion. Rather, you waste your time making these posts excusing why you WON'T respond, when you could be using this time making actual responses. Just another avoidance tactic, common of Rito as a company.

2

Of course people want heads to roll. This is a problem with Rito as a company, they REFUSE to hold their employees responsible for their failures. No matter how massive those failures are, no matter how often or how consistently they fail.

Let's look at Fearless for example: he's attached his name as the lead to some half-dozen projects I could just name off-hand. First was Sona, he completely ruined the character and she hasn't been a viable champion for over 3 years since. He literally deleted a character from the game and hasn't been held responsible for doing so. Then he's reworked the jungle three separate times. The first time made the jungle role quite literally impossible for 99% of all jungle champions and it took some 6 months' worth of patching junglers and camps until the role was finally fixed. Rather than holding him responsible for Junglegate, even after Sonagate, he was allowed to announce himself lead on a 2nd jungle rework, which resulted in nearly the same fiasco as the first time. He wasn't held responsible for Junglegate 2.0 and was allowed to declare himself lead on a 3rd jungle rework which also had questionable results.

When does it end? When do employees start being held responsible for blatantly losing customers and revenue? When does management finally realize that keeping somebody unqualified on payroll LOSES them money?

3

Except singular individuals are in fact frequently responsible for changes in League. Multiple employees have stated to the playerbase that any employee can go in and change a champion, item or whatever however they want, without discussion with any other employees or approval by management. You don't even make it mandatory for them to include the change in the patch notes. Employees have literally stated that Rito condones shadow-patching and it has occurred countless times.

I know for a fact that Meddler was the sole contributor to DOUBLING Brand's passive damage this patch. I know for a fact that Meddler has been the sole contributor to nth champion nerfs, including, but not limited to: Sona, MF, Eve, Quinn, Ahri and probably many more. Is it coincidence he nerfs female champions? Who can say, really, but it probably isn't.

Alright then, here's a genuine question for you. Why have all of these discussions gone completely ignored by Rito?:

It's a fact that Wukong hasn't been touched in 4 years. But asking, "who is responsible for this" is obviously just asking for who to blame. It's not about facts anymore then it is just about pointing fingers and being a dick.

Are there any more efforts to make runes more inclusive? Right now precision only works for full AS ADCs.

Right now aftershock is going from % to flat and resolve has changed to an even split of ad/AP and hp, so those are actually a good start, but wondering mostly about precision being only for the occasional Yi and marksmen

RiotSparkle2 votes

Don't have any specifics about Precision in particular, but we are adding/adjusting runes with the goal of generally making Paths feel more inclusive. Currently there are some classes of champions who don't have great options for homes and we'd like to expand or tweak Paths that make sense for them to consider.

Flemman1 votes

In my opinion, after chaging them so they are more inclusive, making path so that player can take each combination without being force to take one just because of the role should be the optimal version of the rune system.

Sadly I doubt that this will be possible since stuff like vision rune are limited to one tree but are highly recomended on vision centric role to not hinder your team. If there was one more rune line in domination and the vision line was ctrl+c/ctrl+v into the 4 other tree this will be possible but I higly doubt that it will ever be the case

TeCoolMage1 votes

Was not expecting an answer to be honest, thanks!

I'm hoping that one day I can take lethal tempo Cassiopeia or fleet footwork Xerath :p a lot of the non keystone runes are really good for non-auto attackers to the point I want it as the main tree (adaptive CDR/AS will let me die in peace :))

What's your general thoughts on the differences between caster marksmen like varus or MF, and AS ones like Tristana and Ashe? The fact abilities don't help proc them makes the keystones inherently favour those who simply attack more than cast. Right now I think they go sorcery so it's not too big a problem unless precision is actually their intended tree as well
