If you asked anyone about Aatrox this time last week...

everyone would have unanimously agreed that he needs a rework.

Now people are acting like he is the most original character in the game and has been balanced since his release.

he is riven... "original character" is not even remotely close

  1. 3 stage Q where one of the stages can knockup
  2. a W that is a cc ability
  3. a dash that even tho is fairly limited, rounds out the champion (riven a shield)(aatrox AD)
  4. an ult that gives increased ad when active (riven gets a ranged attack)(aatrox gets a kinda bad to fairly good ga that can stack with ga)

sure hes not a copy paste.. but hes dayum close

If you boil anything down to it's most basic level it seems exactly the same.

  1. yeah they're fairly similar, but the size/speed of attacks is much different.

  2. Are you saying that a small AOE stun is the same as a single target skillshot that then pulls the target closer to the spot where the target was struck?

  3. two dashes vs one, Aa's doesn't grant a shield, riven's doesn't grant a % healing buff

  4. Bonus AD vs revive, bonus movement speed, and a size increase. Aatrox's doesn't finish with an execute skillshot either.

  5. Passive: Aa gets a single empowered auto that is on a CD, applying a shield reduction and healing reduction effect. Riven gets empowered autos after a spell cast.

How are these two the same again? The most similar thing is their Qs.

Old Aa is even worse though. Lets compare him to jax

  1. Auto attack steroids? Yep. Aatrox W, Jax passive, W, and R passive

  2. small AOE CC? yep. Jax E and Aa Q

  3. Stat stick ultimate ability? yep.

  4. limited dash on Q? yep.

  5. Stat-check gameplay? Yep. There is little skill expression in a 1v1, except maybe the timing on jax E and landing the Aatrox E.

The only major differences are Jax's E is pretty interesting with it's dodge mechanic and aatrox passive is very different, but if you think that new AA is just a copy of riven then old AA is just a copy of Jax

I don't think people are upset about the rework itself, I think people are upset he isn't closer in line with his old form. People grew attached to it, good or bad, and are sad to see it go.

That isn't everyone of course, some people do like the new changes, but those post are normally drowned out.

I am specifically addressing multiple people who have recently been claiming that old Aatrox is original.

It theory it is, the concept of a drain tanky champion wasn't really fully utilize until him, sure, you can kind of do it on Nasus, but not to the degree an Aatrox can. It just wasn't good.
