Galio just needs a Passive Rework

a rework is supposed to change a champion because his kit doesn't work.

Galio's kit is perfect for a t_anky support instead of a mage_, his Q is an aoe slow, W is an armor/mr buff, E=ms boost, R= aoe teamfight CC. His base damage are extremely high: 300 damage on his Q, 240 on his E, something like 720 damage on his ulti His cooldown are low as hell, his Q cooldown without cdr is 7.

thing is he has small things that don't allow him to be viable as a support like his E only giving ms boost in ONE direction.

if riot improves this thing+ some other changes like mana costs, he would be fine. Now his passive: what i don't understand is why riot doesn't give him a better passive as a support that counters mages in an other way:

Passive: Every X seconds, galio takes X% reduced magic damage and heals his nearest ally in X range for X% of the same amount second passive: galio's spells scales with magic resistance (like ryze's passive but with mr)

thoughts?

Galio's kit is an absolute mess. He has just random spells mashed into his kit, and it doesn't synergize with itself at all. He's a melee tank, first of all, who's bread and butter spells are ranged (Q,E); couple that in with the other spells in his kit that want him to be in the thick of things (W, R) and he just comes across as very conflicted with a kit that doesn't function very well. He's a one trick pony at current, which is Flash+W+R, and that's about all he's good for. He desperately needs to be overhauled to make his playstyle smoother and bring him up to standard with all other tanks.

In terms of how they want to take him, as a mage tank, they need to look at Vladimir, Swain, and Amumu. All 3 are successful mage tanks that have kits that flow and don't leave you at awkward ranges when trying to execute your combos and beat up opponents. Galio needs to take inspiration from them in his rework.

aoe slow+ms boost to engage, followed by his ulti

i don't call that random spells

The movement speed requires him to stop before he casts it though.

And again, he's a melee champion with only one spell that encourages him to be in melee. Which is his ult that has a Massive cooldown.

That is the theory behind it, but in reality due to the skill sizes, cds, and high mana costs that is rarely how it plays out. Which just means he is clunky.

Also his passive, W, and R suggest he should be a tanky melee anti-mage, but his Q and E really don't follow that thematic and frankly are generic abilities that could be placed on any champion kit.

{quoted} His cooldown are low as hell, his Q cooldown without cdr is 7.

No they are not, and a cd w/o cdr of 7 is not particularly low when that is your spamiest spell.

7 seconds on Q while ,13 seconds on W (lasts 4 seconds) 9 seconds on E

meanwhile thresh's cooldowns.

12s (9 if you hit something) on an ability that stuns for 1.5 and displaces them while having the same base damage as Galios E, 16 on an ability that shields and can bring in or save an ally, and 9 on an ability that displaces and slows an enemy.

You just can't compare cds between champions like that. For a champion where a majority of his abilities are poking at the enemy his cds are not "low as hell".

his cooldowns are great but arent horrible. its more so the mana cost and being melee with bad auto attack animation. his passive is fine. but if they could recode his W to a shield where if he wanted to build an item like item 3174 which would be core on him gives him a chance to use the passive of item 3174 provide a heal for allies.

melee is weakening him as mage played mid, but not a tanky support

there is another thread on galio rework you should read. where the OP makes some good points regarding galio.

i think if they gave him an auto attack range of 500 which isnt alot. would make his laning better. and as a support to recode his W as a shield like i stated for the galio support.

If Galio's kit was perfect for a tank support than people would be playing him there instead of mid 99% of the time.

His kit isn't good for any role--back in season 1 it worked because the game wasn't as mechanically-intensive as it is now. Most of his hypothetical power-budget was spent on an extremely powerful Ultimate and a frustrating-to-deal-with passive, which left very little wiggle-room as far as his other skills are concerned. Between the rest of his kit he only has repositioning, a self-heal tied to a gimmicky Stat steroid and DECENT damage on his Q exclusively to work with (not even worth putting points into E in lane right now because both the base damage and scaling of it are deplorable). When you compare that side-by-side against other midlaners whose kits are comparatively gutloaded then really indicates that the power of Galio's skills needs to be redistributed in a meaningful way.

A big step to reworking galio, IMO is to either, turns his AA to ranged, maybe 500 range, little lasers out his eyes or something. or theme is kit to a more melee style. Hes meant to be the anti-mage and was a popular pick for me against brand. But his kit just doesn't fit. but i do like his kit. Its kind of like swapping Darius' abilities with, say, Karma's. Although the abilities are good, they just dont fit with how the champion plays.

I feel he could be more viable if there were more melee mages, which is something i hope future champions could be. Its kind of hard for galio to lane against the class he is designed to counter. as most mages have slows/stuns/binds in there kits it makes it hard for him to get kills without having flash available. To me the only real thing that truly fits with his kit is his W, if hes a melee anti mage, then this ability is the most fitting, helps him negate the damage that mages do to him with his burst.

My initial thoughts towards making him more viable would be to add a passive onto his q, think back to old xerath kit and jhin. if his q lands then landing E could maybe root the target, allowing him to use the speed boost on his E to give him a meaning full way to use his ult without having to burn flash everytime.
