Riot why do you hate wards so much?

As a mid main this is genuinely something that is impacting my climb. I simply do NOT have the tools to clear, place, and continue to output the damage that is expected of me all at once.

I just came out of a game as a Karthus, and because the support and jungler wouldnt build sweeping lens, I had to do it. Which meant I couldn't place any wards. In the end I got caught farming bot.

So seriously, what the hell is with this? There's no more data for "wards purchased" in your online advanced match history details, they don't exist. Why should I be punished if my support or jungle don't buy lens? Or the support doesn't build sighstone?

This has had a lasting effect on mid mentality. Enemy laners don't fight like they used to. For the most part they just wait for the jungler to gank. And frankly why shouldn't they? They have nowhere near enough access to vision to sufficiently protect themselves. Simply moving up to the middle of the lane is sometimes enough for a successful gank, so why risk playing aggressively at all?

I thought I could handle the ward removal, and I've been frustrated with this before, but I'm sick of it. From what I heard, ward changes between seasons 3 and 4 were to put less strain and pressure on the support doing all the work. Well it's now shared by the jungler, but congratulations, that strain and pressure is returning. Because I as a mid laner simply don't have access to the tools needed to assist in any given situation without impacting my own role.

Because those were your teammates. If they don't cooperate then you'll probably lose.

Boy, team game sure is a hard concept nowadays.

It really sounds like you legitimately want a role with no trade offs. Being able to assist in any given situation without impacting your own role is the definition of unbalanced. If it was just a slip of the tongue, still

It's a team game, if your team cannot do well, you will either have to work around that or lose. Welcome to MOBAs

Here's the thing about vision right now, unless the support builds sightstone or the jungle gets the ward enchantment, you have no vision. Is that a good thing? Cos it sure as fuck doesn't feel like it Because

Welcome to playing a team game. If the ADC doesn't build DPS you don't have DPS. If you don't have peel on your team, then you don't have peel. If you don't have burst on your team, then you don't have burst. Why is it any different than vision?

Every role has positives and negatives to playing it. You cannot have a role where you can fill every need on your team at once, it would be too unbalanced.

which brings us back to season 3, supports are Ward bots. It seems riot wants other roles to be able to contribute to vision, but doesn't like when they do it. All of their changes to how vision has worked has been a whole fuckfest of backwards mixed messaging that's ended up a complete contradiction of what they set out to do in the first place.

I'd be more inclined to agree with you if me getting savaged by the enemy jungler because I don't have the tools to protect myself and the support was busy protecting the other 3 people (that according to your philosophy is the job of the support) didn't feel like the most absolutely cheesey obnoxious bullshit that it is.

And finally: if an ADC doesn't build dmg they are usually reported for it. Peel and burst are compositional things that are a conscious decision in champion select. Vision is a core part of league and it's near completely gated behind an item that is poor building for 80% of the roster, and you're telling me that all this is good?

there is a difference between "supports build a gold gen items and spend the rest of their gold buying wards" and "supports are the spearhead of vision control"

according to my "philosophy" the support can't magically defend everyone at once. According to my philosophy every role has trade offs. Supports control vision as one of their incredibly important attributes.

everything is obnoxious cheesy bullshit these days. If the enemy jungler is camping your lane and the support is defending 3 other people, you turtle in lane and hope your team can pressure the map elsewhere. If the enemy jungle is camping your lane then he is ignoring other lanes and objectives because of it.

And finally: if an ADC doesn't build dmg they are usually reported for it.

And if a support doesn't build sightstone are they reported for it? Probably. Depends on how the game goes.

Peel and burst are compositional things that are a conscious decision in champion select.

They also come as a trade off to your champion pick and build. They are pluses and minuses to every champion and role in the game. Vision control is no different.

Vision is a core part of league and it's near completely gated behind an item that is poor building for 80% of the roster, and you're telling me that all this is good?

Please tell me how infinite wards for 400g is bad for 80% of the roster?

an item that is poor building for 80% of the roster, and you're telling me that all this is good?

This is a terrible argument BTW. Building ADC items and glass cannon is bad for 80% of the roster, but it is integral to the game. Building full tank is bad for at least 50% of the roster, but it is integral to the team. Building as a full AP mages is atrocious for 80% of the roster, but it is integral to the team.

TL;DR stop trying to get every class to be able to have a ton of vision control. It would remove one of, if not the most powerful things about supports. Every class has trade offs to what it can and can't do.

If you have a teammate that won't build SS, tough shit, it's a team game.

rhe difference is though there are multiple tank and damage items, so full commitment to being any of those options is not necessary. However warding is different because the trinkets are simply total shit, and there are literally only 2 other options, 1 which is gated behind smite, and another which is bad building on 80% of the roster.

There are ways to play around having no tanks, minimal burst, hell you could even swap Azir in place for an ADC and STILL be fine, but vision right now is something you either have or you don't because it's so heavily restricted.

The difference is by asphyxiating access to vision so heavily, it restricts the amount of calculated play people can make, and instead games become a case of: "shit I hope they aren't here". Then games are won because someone gets caught because they braved leaving base, or you just get ground into the dirt by 5-drake elder and baron buffs that you couldn't contest because you had no wards.

Drop a control ward in 1 side of the lane, use your Trinket Ward on the other.

If you're playing an AD assassin, Duskblade passively gives the sweeping effect if you walk near a ward with a cooldown.

Ward whatever you can at mid and then have map awareness. If the jungler has been missing and you have no idea where he went its probably best to back off until you see him gank another lane.
