Sona is obnoxious and toxic to lane against.

I'm sorry, it's true. She can just sit at 850 range and throw poke at you all day long, and there's nothing you can do to dodge it. A good sona will stay behind minions and poke the living daylights out of you from a position of complete safety. If you do manage to poke her, she'll just sustain it back up by mixing her heal and her potion. Every time I play support or adc into sona, I just want to quit, because I know my laning experience will be horrible unless the sona isn't competant, which is unlikely since she's braindead easy to play. Her only real counter is hard-engage supports, but with windspeakers buffing both her heal and her shield and giving her armor the whole time, even they don't feel strong enough to burst her down, especially post 6 when she can just ult and turn the fight around.

I know Sona has gotten changed a lot over the years,in pretty bad ways, but she's still toxic and boring to play against. Every other poke support relies on skill shots to be effective; Sona has a lock on, long range, champion-prioritizing, low cooldown, low mana cost poke. It's just boring and toxic to play against.

Sona is far from toxic. Far, far, far from toxic. Champions like Kench, Zed, Yasuo, Fiora, etc would all be considered toxic because once they get a lead, there's really no way to play against them. Sona is saddled with absurd mana costs. If you poke with her Q, you can probably only squeak out 2 heals and she's done. She's immensely easy to outlast if you play aggressively against her and force her to spend her mana on heals; On top of that, she's naturally squishy, and it's not too hard to force her out of the lane with a few well placed shots. Sure, you may think she has no counterplay, but perhaps you're not very experienced playing her, and therefore aren't familiar with her weaknesses. However, despite your misgivings, Sona is in a really good place right now and any changes would tip her lower and out of viability.

I play Tahm and I'm quite versed in how strong he is. He's way up there in terms of power as a support, because he deals massive poke with his Tongue, he can stun and disable if he Acquired Tastes someone, he can swallow/make immune an ally and run really fast, and his self sustain/shield make him incredibly hard to kill. That's not even factoring in the magic damage boost he gets on his attacks for simply building like a tank. Sorry, but Kench is strong, too strong, and won't be nerfed into oblivion if even one of his current strengths was pulled down a bit.

In fact, an easy nerf to his peel would be to remove his speed boost when he swallows a friend, forcing him to build boots and other speed buff items to make a clean getaway; Let's face it, the speedy movement and the distance he can spit them combine to make killing someone he's protecting pretty difficult.

His speed boost already got removed... You sure youre playing Tahm? kek I guess him being so easy to play and so strong as support is also why he has 46% win rate? summoner 31

His speed boost is there, but only running to enemies, so my bad. I figured it was the entire time. And also, win rates don't necessarily correlate with balance. People complain about Lee Sin and LeBlanc constantly as being OP, yet their win rates sit at and below 46%, while Illaoi's sits at 48%, and people currently cannot stand her. Kench's is 47.4%, but again, that doesn't attest to his power levels as a support. Take note, supports don't carry the team, so despite Kench's immense power, if his team fails, so does he.

Win rates can get rendered useless by extremely low/high play rates or a fairly high skill cap but they are still a pretty good indicator. I mean look at the top 5 win rates across all roles https://i.gyazo.com/cf3e023b9787d7ebb0b32c68613b4453.png ... Graves
Tahm has an ok play rate and isnt that hard to play so I dont see how he is still supposed to be "op" even tho his win rate (as support) is 46% and has been below 50% for ages now. I dont play this champ at all anymore but it kinda annoys me how people mindlessly call this champ broken in 0 effort threads and actually get way more attention and upvotes than good threads here (not mine kek) while things like Mundo, Malphite and Voli have been freelo for so long now lol.

I've played as and against Tahm a lot, in both top and support roles. I love the guy, he's one of my favorite champions, but I think some nerfs would be reasonable. It's a bit too easy right now to just chain Qs and Ws to prevent people from getting away. Overall, for a tank, he's extremely good at dueling situations, especially in top lane where your opponent is (usually) melee range. I really don't think he's on the edge and only just barely viable.

Sona's Q damage is pretty pathetic if she isn't getting off autos with the proc or her power chords.

She is heavily countered by hard engage. She is wrecked by hard engage supports like Leona, Alistar (that can also heal her poke a bit) thresh, blitz, etc but not only those, her poke can simply be shielded by a ton of supports (Janna, Karma)or healed by one (Soraka, Nami, Taric) Her sustain will do nothing against an ap burst support like zyra, annie or brand Zyra can kill her in one e w q w combo THROUGH THE MINION WAVE She is notoriously squishy and she will die very fast Her kit is simple thus easy to predict

Wickedfates5 votes

i understand your pain, but the reason is not she is toxic or obnoxious, its just that you are not playing against her properly, im sure other people will give you similar advice but here are a few things...

-she is always squishy, and can be killed easily if focused -many sona's think themselves too strong because of Q at the vry start of a game, if she dives you all in at lv 1, she is squishy! and she wont be able to cast again for 8 sec, can you kill sona in 8 sec... yes -she has at best a weak escape, and not till later levels, she is always slow -she has relatively a long cooldown at lower levels vs just autoing her, (8,10,12 sec) after she pokes you both support and adc should be exchanging with her, not just taking her poke and running away... poke back -when she auto's u, it causes minions to attack her, sona can die from minions, use them to attack her (positioning) -while her q poke does have that range, it is only the 2 weaker bolts, only 1 of which can do damage to you, without the empowered auto attack at range of 550 it is weak -her heal is not very strong, because it is intended to be a heal and a shield, for multiple people, therefore she can not sustain it in lane, she will go oom, when she gets near oom go all in, sona's tend to stay because mana-regen -if she is healing/shielding wait about 1 sec... the shield lasts 1.5 sec your auto attack will go after the shield and it was a "wasted" shield -sona's tend to have a pattern, figure it out and use it against them, a simple one is E to move in, empowered Q to damage, then W to shield the return damage.... obviously there are variances, E at the end to escape for instance....but she is predictable because she telegraphs her attacks

my favorite way to die as a Sona :( -she can push a lane early and force the enemy under tower if they are not dealing with her well, that is around when your jg needs to come down, if rvr is warded then come from the back end sona is dead, then kill the adc.... you see she is slow and squishy so most sona's will run from the gank, while Qing you, if they notice the jg coming in... many adc's will just abandon sona as the enemy focus her and get the kill, it might mean only 1 kill, but you already are putting pressure on the bot lane, and she will be more fearful now, and if she is not, do it again... a weak underfed jg can easily get assists this way at the vry least, and if you pressure sona early then she loses the entire advantage of having a strong early game

so ya, tldr: your just not playing against her right, focus her, she dies

Sona is so ridiculously slow, fragile and dependent on AP items that it concerns me you're having this much of an issue with her.

Also, let me just point out a few things:

  1. Her q range isn't exactly 850. This has been discussed many, many times. It's lower, around 700-750, with certain prioritization.
  2. Her heal is shit. It will never not be shit. The only time it's good is if she has Rank 5 W, 500+ AP with Windspeaker's, and she's got a fuckload of mana regen to back it up.
  3. Almost no one actually takes windspeakers. Probably for thunderlord's instead.
  4. She can be countered by more than just the likes of Leona, Blitz or Thresh. Supports with good ADC synergy or basic heavy CC can easily run her out of lane. Bard, Nami, Morg, Lulu, Karma, Lux, Soraka, Zilean and Zyra can all win against her.

Now, that being said, you have a couple of valid points:

  1. The rework that was supposed to make her more interactive really only made her slightly moreso. She's still a poke/ult bot with a shit heal, shit shield, and a shit speed boost. Blame Riot for that one.
  2. She definitely is on the easier side to play in terms of basic mechanics. (but she's not easy to learn how to be effective against many opponents, since she's so determinate on not being out of position)

This is coming from an actual Sona main with 225k+ mastery points.

Its a damn shame Sona was one of the reworks during Rito's "Healers are OP" phase, and now the traditional fire-and-forget nerfing without reversions leaves her as just a 5th body

Urgot is OP too. Nerf his excessive range.

Sona is good - however - you beat her by killing her - she is very slow and very fragile. Go into a lane against her trying to farm and you will get wrecked - go into a lane with her and make her pay everytime she pokes at you and she will be OOM fast and have to go back.

Truly Prideful2 votes

I actually don't mind playing against her as an ADC. She's super easy to punish if she's being that aggressive because she has no escape and is extremely squishy. Her heal isn't very cost effective at all if she's not getting to use the shield so poking her back is punishment enough. She'll go oom fast if she's using her heal all that often. The only time I see Sona doing that well is when the enemy just lets her poke and never tries to actually all-in her. I'd rather play against Sona than Blitz any day of the week.

Windspeaker doesn't apply to self heals.

At least it shouldn't.

She isn't that much of a problem on SR. She usually doesn't build much AP in the beginning outside of FQC.

You should see her go Mid-lane or in ARAM and have a team that can peel/engage/protect her. It's obnoxious and toxic as fuck.

windspeaker actually increase self heal, but no eztra resistance.

Blumpkin Nation1 votes

You're right. I meant to say it doesn't add the resistances (which are pretty bad anyway).
