Stealing Dragon and Baron, and how it works, how to do it and how to stop it

So I have been maining jungle for about a year now, playing it as a serious role. I have my share of baron and dragon steal stories, and I have narrowed down some of the champions who are the best at stealing in abcd order

How it works To steal a dragon or baron, you need a few things

1-Knowledge on the monsters health 2-Some Vision 3-Full knowledge on the power of your smite 4-A burst combo, and a fast 1 5-To calculate your burst combo+smite, and for it to be near instant damage 6-A way in 7-Not mandatory but cc is very helpful

SO lets say im Lee Sin. WARNING MY NUMBERS WILL BE VERY OFF

Let's say my first q is 100 damage, lets say my second is 150, lets say my smite is 800, I also have the optional E to do another 100. That means I have a 1050 or 1150 smite, I just need to find a way in, and to use the combo as fast as humanly possible. So one thing you should do when attempting to steal, is first, before you do it, hover ur curser over ur abilities, get the exact number on how big your smite/burst combo is. than look at the health of the monster and time when to go in.

WHEN DO I GO IN?!

Typically you go in, when the monster is 100-200 damage away from your full kill combo, you do this for a second later the monster will be in your exact range to kill. if you wait to long, than you are now entering into the enemy junglers smite combo territory, which turns your 60/40 smite war, into a 50/50.

THAT BEING SAID, how is it stopped?

After doing this for year and having a high victory rate in stealing, I have come to learn this. I can only successfully make the attempt to steal if the enemy team allows me to steal. I have currently reached the belief, that if I steal the dragon or baron, that is purely the enemy team fucking up, while it takes skill to do the steal, it's also a huge miss play from the enemy team that allowed me to do the out play. That's why we call it a out play, for someone did something better than the other dude.

A steal can be completely shut down if you do the following

-If the jungler is something like lee sin, who needs to hit an ability to get in, or if it's a champion with a blockable skill shot, all you need to do, is body block/protect the baron/dragon. For if they hit you instead of the objective, than this greatly deters them.

-Drag out the dragon for gods sake, only takes a few second to do, this means you are guiding the dragon away from the pit, which makes it physically impossible for the enemy jungler or anyone on the enemy team to hit their skill shots onto it.

-Hide in a bush to zone them off. Both Dragon and Baron have a bush where someone on your team can hide in, to zone off the enemy champion. Anyone on the team can do it, most the time it tends to be the support or the mid laner, for you need the tank to sponge the damage, and you need the adc to DPS.

-Just kills the jungler before you even start it, You can either fake doing the dragon or baron, so that way the jungler goes "OH NO I NEED TO STEAL IT" they rush to the objective, they are panicking so they don't have the most proper state of mind, and BOOM they face check into you and die. THAN you start the baron or dragon. They can't steal if they are dead

-Remember you also have a burst combo, If you are a Kalista, you got your own smite, if you are someone like Yasuo or Ezreal, you know your Q will do a couple hundred damage. Just save one of those abilities for when the monster is low so you can "smite" it yourself.

-CC the enemy jungler the moment they jump in. Very few animations in this game are instantaneous. When the jungler jumps in to steal your dragon, just cc the kid. He can't steal if he's ccd. (this is to stop the burst combo, making it harder for them to out smite, it's not meant to stop the smite, for you can still smite)

So yeah, stealing is only possible if the team taking the dragon/baron does a strategic miss play.

LIST OF CHAMPIONS that are good at stealing that you should watch out for Ekko -Can put in a giant Aoe stun, with the potential to stun the entire team, while he hits the Monster with his E/Q/Smite combo, not as instant as other combos, but if u can land a stun the other jungler, than that gives you time to steal.

Elise -Has her Q+smite Execution, her jump to get her into the pit, main down side, is if she doesn't have flash, she has no way to get out, basically if you are doing a solo smite steal for your team as Elise, you are basically the suicidal hero.

Gragas -Has his ultimate to put some damage onto the dragon, along with the Q, his ultimate and his stun will also displace people in the pit, hopefully the jungler will be one of them. So while he might not have giant burst steal damage, he has a lot of confusing damage that is hard for the enemy jungler to predict.

Hecarim -With his E/R/Q combo, he is a compentant stealer, who can get into the pit, fear the enemy team away and steal, main down side is, just like elise, once he goes in, he doesn't have many ways to get out. You will die like a hero and make your ancestors proud.

Khazix -Not the best, id say hes probabbly the worse one on this list, Has no cc to get the enemy team off him or off the objective, relies purely on his full burst combo to steal it, but since he has no cc, and no instant burst, he can be killed in attempting to do so, or will die immediately after doing so.

LeeSin -Probabbly the best jungler on this list at stealing objective monsters, with his double Q and his E, no jungler in the game can hope to out smite the lee sin, he has the ultimate to push people off him, or off the jungler, and has the W to Safeguard out. While Lee Sins team will praise him for stealing the dragon/baron and getting out alive, the enemy jungler will be left going "how is that even fair?"

Sejuani -What makes her a great stealer is nothing to do with her burst, but her CC. For after all, how can the enemy jungler secure smite, if he is perma ccd? Plus with Sejuanis dash, and her being incredibly tanky, she can jump in, cc the opponents so she can smite, tank some damage to wait for her cooldown to come back up, and she will jump out.

Shyvana -Read Hecarium

JarvanIV -Out of ABC order I know, but he is a great stealer for all the same reasons Lee Sin is, E/Q is a very instant combo, they all do very respectable damage to add to your smite, so depending on your build or just in general, he can easily out smite most junglers. However he does lack ways to go out, oh well once you steal the dragon/baron you can just four man ult the enemy team and go down like a man.

MAKE YOUR ANCESTORS PROUD

Anyways that is my small little advice topic on stealing objective and defending objectives, aka baron and dragon. Hope it helps.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told one can still smite even if they are cc'd.

Besides that, great post! Helps me a ton!

You can but, you are now unable to use your burst combo, turning your 1300 smite into a 1000, you had a 60/40 (stats are debatable) chance to steal, and it got reduced to a 50/50 but it also depends on which jungler you are, some will be more impacted by cc than others.

Gotcha, the last point on stopping a steal threw me off. Sorry!

I didn't read all of it but it seems like you think you can't smite while stunned and I'm 99% sure that the only cc that stops you from using smite is suppression. By all means correct me if I'm wrong. I read the first part and I think it's good advice to save your burst combo to burst objectives before smitin. Gj, I always appreciate a helpful post!

Ill edit the topic, i explained how cc is important, but not why.

You see, champions like Ekko or Elise, aren't like Jarvan or Lee sin. They have to enter the pit to do damage, For champions who have to enter the pit, you CC them.

Why?

Because that turns their mega smite, into a normal smite.

Mega Smite-Burst Combo+Smite

You reduce the power of their smite by making it impossible for them to combo, thus decreasing their chances to steal
