Shen would be much easier to balance both for soloQ and competitive if he used mana

Stand United would be much easier to put in right place if Shen didn't have ability to out-pressure pretty much every mana-reliant champion in the game, simply because he won't ever run out of his resource. Right now the most realistic way to keep him from doing that is what Riot did - overnerfing him.

I know that ninjas are supposed to use energy, but I think forcing Shen to base as much as other champions do, periodically reliving that huge map pressure, would not only allow to put some power back into his kit, making him better suited for solo queue, but also make his competitive playstyle more interesting than "I'll just smack you, forcing you to smack me back, until you run out of mana, and than my team will start a fight you can't join", forcing more creative and exciting use of Stand United.

Right now Shen is "bad, but not completely terrible" due to buffs in 6.23, but we all know he will get Azired to the ground again after a round or two of LCS. Maybe giving him mana would be lesser evil: unlike Azir, who's playstyle is absolutely, completely terrible even in solo queue, Shen could be allowed to be a viable pick there without ruining experience for other players.

Also, I know you Shen mains have wet dreams about item 3025 ;)

Thoughts?

Shens energy is more difficult to balance than given credit. They need to make his q an auto reset. It would make his landing phase bearable

But if laning phase is made bearable, without addressing his map pressure, he is instantly broken in competitive.

I said energy is more difficult to balance, and I meant manage I am dumb

I know it's harder than it looks like, as he has 400 of it instead of ordinary 200, so it's not like in case of Zed and the other where you can just spam until 0 and it will be back to 100% well before the next wave.

In competitive environment though, ultimately it doesn't matter. In-between waves he gets enough energy to cast his full combo - and if he misses shadow dash, he only needs 2 seconds more, so in the end mana reliant champion will always need to leave the lane first.

I don't like alternate resources at all, honestly
