Isn't Yasuo's whole entire purpose to be good vs ranged champions
So why does he have a massively higher performance top lane where it's not squishy ranged champions but tankier melees
How does that make sense

Unlike Assassins, Skirmishers aim to shred through any nearby enemy that approaches. Because Skirmishers lack high-end burst damage or reliable ways of closing in on high-priority targets, they are instead armed with situationally powerful defensive tools to survive in the fray, along with extreme sustained damage to cut down even the most durable targets.
Yasuo's pretty much the poster boy for the Skirmisher (Yasuo, Fiora, Riven, Yi, Jax, Ekko, Tryndamere). It also makes sense when you realized most of the Skirmishers stay in top, and that all of them can go top if wanted, even the hybrids (Jayce, GP, Graves). Yasuo's job isn't to deal with carries, it's to deal with anything in his immediate vicinity, with a focus against the carries since they're the most dangerous.
wait, why is yasuo better against ranged?
his shield makes it so it gives you an advantage if you're ranged so you can destroy the shield from safety and then poke him.
Thats literally why.
Buying Phantom dancer gives yasuo more damage reduction 1v1 than 50 armor (Sunfire)
Also he has pretty good base stats with his shield letting him have the third highest hp at level 1 (Behind Mounted Kled and Trynd), CC, and armor pen on his ult so he can fight tanks.
Because his early game is actually retardedly strong against melee champions, his base damages specially with fervor are actually very high.
And PD gives him so much stats + the damage reduction is quite op when combined with mallet gigantic health pool, all of this is more useful against melee/bruisers than ranged mages.
lmao rex
i know this
Why was a rhetorical question xP

I actually didnt realize it was you who made this thread until now LOL.
damn I've lost so much fame across the years
undying grasp
fervor
one of the best lvl one trades because he has one of the quickest auto resets.
yea and having a max stack fervor yas at lvl 1 hurts quite a bit.
this also makes it retarded to deal with yas in most cases.
Because
= Cancer.
As a Japanese, yasuos kit hardly even represents the way of the swords- Kendo, or Iaido. Like really His kit, in general is some spam fest in contrary of the "focus on one-strike" mentality of true Japanese combat.
Vs ranged is a skill matchup unless it's an adc.
Also he gets a free LW so yea...
Because his range is higher than most toplaners, so you can attack behind the minions, also don't forget the Q and the tornado. Yasuo loses to most toplaners after the first back, if he didn't get a kill. His early game is really strong, even Trynda plays safe vs him early.
Trynd can win at level 2 if he takes W and all-ins him (ghost+ignite). But it also depends on him landing 2 crits on 35% chance, while yasuo wins the rest of the time.

Yas can outplay/disengage in the minion wave with his dashes...
unless the yas takes ghost himself, he is not going to escape a ghosted Trynd especially while slowed.
Because ranged champions are so strong that in order to make anti-ranged champions good/metagame, we have to make them broken against everything (thinking of Irelia as well)
So why does he have a massively higher performance top lane where it's not squishy ranged champions but tankier melees

Because what happens on the design table and what happens in reality are completely different things. "designed for" and "supposed to" are moot points once a champion is released.
I.E. the "purpose" of yasuo is not to be good VS ranged (and in compensation lose to the irelias). That may be his design specifications, but actually his purpose is an emergent property. I.E. once he is released people learn him and then they decide what he's for and the actual champion design team only has minor input.
