To everyone who says there's no elo hell and matchmaking is fine:

BigFBear··157 votes·25,375 views

My Smurf just got demoted to Gold 2 and dropped to 46% winrate in my last 30+ games with Voli Jungle,

while my Main is constantly climbing in Dia 3 with a 80%+ winrate in the last 30+ games.

I made a similar thread a while ago but it has become even more ridiculous since then. There is just 1 or 2 hardcore feeder in almost every game in lower elo (mostly because of bad matchmaking) and you cant do shit about it with a non hyper carry. They decide the outcome of the game.

This is not a cry-thread or something. I am ok as long as i can carry on my Main, but i find this interesting since it showed me again how bad climbing in lower elo is and how little it has to do with skill. When i climbed through Gold/Plat with my main i had the same problems but back then i thought i just suck. Now I have the direct comparison. Yes, maybe you play different on a smurf than on your main.... but not 46% to 80% different!

https://abload.de/img/diavsgoldsvjl8.jpg https://www.leagueofgraphs.com/summoner/champions/volibear/euw/BigFBear https://www.leagueofgraphs.com/summoner/champions/volibear/euw/Truss

EDIT:

I dont blame matchmaking alone for my problems in my current gold games. I know that i am not perfect (not even close) and that i have plenty of room to improve and that a better player could climb through Gold/Plat with a high winrate, even with Voli. But whats true in my opinion is, that its way harder to carry a game in Gold as a non hyper carry than a game in Dia. And that has also (not ONLY but ALSO) to do with the big gaps between skill in lower Elo caused by bad matchmaking. In lower elo you have many games where - lets say - a Gold 2 with 90% winrate in 35 games plays vs a Plat 2 with 50% winrate in 250 games. Ofc the Gold is a Smurf from whatever elo and deletes the Plat 2 almost every time. The algorithm just cant detect if a Gold 2 player with 90% winrate in 35 games is a Dia 3 Smurf or a Grandmaster Smurf. I play LoL since S3 (often around high Plat in the last years) and i cant remember that games were such "diversified" in terms of rank, skill and winrate. Even in the last season the gaps between ranks and winrates between the individual players werent that high. It's gotten a lot worse since S9.

Just 2 Example from my games in Plat this Season. And believe me: Almost every game was like this. I have more screenshots.

https://abload.de/img/lolp9kbz.png elo difference: gold 2 to Plat 1 winrate difference: 38% to 84%

https://abload.de/img/lollose104kdy.jpg elo difference: gold 1 to Plat 1 winrate difference: 49% to 90%

Like i said: in Dia i dont have a lot of those games and it makes the games way more predictable. I can work with that and i can carry that. But i cant carry a 50% wr toplaner who get crushed by a 90% wr Smurf. (P.S. i am aware that i am a smurf by myself).

I just love the mental gymnastics people go through to justify this bullshit. The matchmaking is a joke and the Riot stans just can't get that through their heads.

eunekid4203 votes

How is it a joke? Go look OP's match history. You won't find rigged matchmaking there. It's equally skilled players on both sides (unranked ones are gold or plat s8). If OP really was a diamond smurf then it should only be unfair towards his enemies. See how this contradicts the whole post?

Or does Riot flag tilted/trolling players and intentionally put them EXACTLY IN YOUR games just to stop you from climbing? Unless Riot sabotages and manuscripts games on purpose, there is nothing they can do to "fix" the matchmaking.

I love the delusion that you think Riot is keeping you in from getting to the elo you think you deserve lmao

AstroFerrari 12 votes

I don't think they're preventing me from doing anything. Their matchmaking is trash and it's a proven fact now. But you can continue to bend over backwards for them if that makes you feel good about yourself.

The problem in low elo match isn't the skill or game knowledge. It's the shitty attitude. Most games in low elo are winnable but they become unwinnable when the players decides to afk, int, troll over something as minor as taking the wrong secondary runes.

Raiyza17 votes

No, game knowledge is a worse problem. A shitty attitude doesn't mean you all of a sudden forget how the map works. A shitty attitude is certainly a factor, but game knowledge (when to shove a lane/rotate/go for objectives/etc.) is a far worse problem. Players just don't have enough to carry a game.

eunekid4201 votes

This applies to your teammates but enemies aswell. When they are "stomping" they still can't effectively end games. So as a smurf, you should have great chances to comeback. This fact alone makes me not believe these posts where people say they're stuck because elohell while smurfing.

Raiyza13 votes

Oh my fucking god. It is the WORST when you're winning 20-6 kills, but you lost anyway because your teammates chased kills all game long and didn't take objectives.

EDIT: You can communicate to your team what you need to do all you want. Low elo players don't listen and they think they'll win anyway. happens. Too. Fucking. Often.

Son of spartar2 votes

Currently the problem on my new smurfs, i'm losing game's because players refuse to listen to game winning calls, then complain when it all goes wrong. Its near impossible for me to carry game's when half my team doesn't understand that basics of the game.

Raiyza1 votes

Absolutely. Game knowledge is key

Son of spartar1 votes

I'm not saying all low level player's are bad but after taking 2 smurfs to P1-D5 you can clearly see where they lack and listening to calls and going for objectives is a huge problem for these players. That's what get's me mad, people refuse to let their ego go and just listen to calls to win the game. I've played this game for over 9yrs.

This is funny, because it's actually true.

Shun, a friend with whom I play almost exclusively brought one of his friends to LoL, the guy lack total skill. He's a legit new player, if left alone, he doesn't even know what to do.

BUT

He's better than 90% of all the team mates I get for the simple fact that he listens to what's needed.

https://matchhistory.eune.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/EUN1/2174357752/219466781?tab=overview

He's the Varus, you can check his match history and all. He misses ults, forgets to buy boots 90% of the time until like 15-20 mins, sometimes doesn't even take his ult at 6 because panic level up, but he asks what to do, what to build and if told (we're in voice chats), he's doing it. As long as there's someone to tell him what to do (Shun's not the best coach tho), the guy does better than many players I face in ranked in silver or even normals.

People just think they know it all and don't want to listen, and many a times, do the exact opposite just to spite you.

Exactlyt this what I witness in lower elo, unfking carriable inters, afkers.

Totally agree. It's just that a few seasons ago people didn't die so much in the first 5 minutes of the game, and it used to be 3 feeders lost you the game, maybe 2 if they were feeding really badly. Now one person screws up and you can't contest an objective, and they just use the objective to end the game.

From my experience of playing through the different ranks ( bronze to plat at least ) every rank has its own meta where particular champions and stradegies excel while others do not. You play well in a diamond game meta but struggle in a gold game meta.

That is the true way to climb in league is to do your research and understand how each divisions meta works and play through it. When you reach the next tier you learn that one and move on. There is no rigging of the game and if anybody truly believes that they are not playing the game correctly.

BigFBear11 votes

Thank you. Maybe the best comment so far.

I will try to improve my gold skills. Actually i just have to retrieve them, since i was there a few months ago :D

I don't think the games are "rigged" either. I just think that matchmaking doesnt work very good in lower elos. The skill gaps between the players in one match are just too high.

Exactly same issue. Had 4 afks in my last 7 games, won 1. Also smurfing from low dia.

Mannny7 votes

You should consider taking a lot of resources for urself and being the overall carry for the entire game. I'm not discrediting the fact that matchmaking is faulty right now and needs work, but often times slowly grinding to high elo and smurfing to high elo are two different things, and smurfing is a skill you have to learn in its own right. Also you don't have as many games played, you should play a lot more and test out strategies and builds that put you as the primary carry.

Fraggleroc7 votes

Bumping this.

CNV Nightstar6 votes

Ima just be blatantly honest and say that you suck. Lower elo requires a different playstyle and unless youre a booster or frequently smurf you wont do good. I can say this from experience of leveling up 5 accounts to diamond. It was hard the first 2 but then after i got used to adjusting I was fine. In all honesty, volibear can carry just fine except youre not that good and dont know how to properly play in lower elos. But thats just my 2 cents.

BigFBear7 votes

Yeah... maybe its true. Like someone said above: smurfingn is a "skill" you have to learn. Its the first time i smurf and maybe i have to change my playstyle and mindset. I often rely on my teammates and expect them to do certain things because it's obvious from my point of view but then they dont react and i die. For example: I see enemy jungler doing top Scuttle. My mid and my toplane pushed the enemy under their tower and have no farm. In Dia they would immediately collaps on the enemy jungler in the river together with me. In Gold they dont even come when i ping them 3 times.

Maybe i have to play like i am completeley alone.

But another thing thats true is that matches in lower elos may be even in AVERAGE but the gap between the players is too high. Often i play with Silvers/Golds/Platins/Unrankeds/Smurfs (with winrates between 30% and 90%) in one game. While in Dia its more like 5 Dia3 vs 5 Dia 3 (all 50% - 55% winrate).

Très Pauvre3 votes

As someone currently trying to escape gold.... You have to play like you're completely alone and attempt to hard carry because very rarely will you successfully herd all 4 sheep toward the correct goal.

Second point and more to my personal skill level, when you know you're not playing well enough to be THE carry recognize who is and support the living fuck out of them.

Also I guarantee the high gold low plat meta game and game tempo are vastly different from diamond. I've noticed just from watching certain videos or streams the timers they are checking. If i check camps/objectives at those early game marks its a coin flip on whether or not those criteria are met because people don't play the game as cleanly which makes predictions impossible.

Even Yassuo said the same thing, he said he found low elo very hard but once he passed that stage of the climb it wasn't that bad anymore. This coming from a challenger player, and people think "just solo carry lul". There's probably something wrong with that elo bracket.

Deliberate Inter2 votes

No, matchmaking is fine and you are a volatile cheese player who will struggle to climb before being hardstuck in the diamond mines of moria. I spectated one of your games and you have bigger problems than anything having to do with matchmaking, address those before you grasp at straws...

Divewing7 votes

Maybe rather than super passive-aggression, point out what he's done wrong?

There is a tendency among the Boards, Reddit, etc to throw endless amounts of results-based analysis with total disregard for in-the-moment context. Pointing out the issues is a lot more helpful to everyone than just saying there are mysterious issues that exist in some nether-realm ether.

Deliberate Inter1 votes

If someone tried passive aggression It went over my head.

I don't believe in listing instances where a player's damage foresight failed them, listing instances where someone should have taken a different path, played around a different power spike or selected a different target so on or so forth. these "problems" or "Questions" or "Decisions" or whatever you want to call them are derived, answered through a player's own understanding + their mechanics on a game by game basis. Nobody learns from a "know it all" and if he, or you, or anyone wants to learn how to navigate those mazes that is far beyond the scope of my answer here and they should Definitely hire me or someone else as a coach, obviously. Instead of even offering that, I just threw out some commonly used terms and suggested some of his more glaring weaknesses and if he has any ambition and discipline at all he can follow that light and either seek out From MANY resources the answers and tools and grovel / work for improvement like every other player. What you don't seem to understand is that he didn't ask for improvement, he came here to whine about elo hell and how "rito matchmaking much busted" Glad to sort you out :)

BigFBear5 votes

You must be pretty salty. I didnt "whine" and i already proved my "ambition" and "discipline" by carrying my fat bear ass through that disgusting coin-flip-elo Silver/Gold/Plat, which costs me a lot of games. And "Oh wonder", my winrate jumped sky high when i hit Dia and when i wasn't mixed with people 2 devisions below mine anymore.

Try to climb to mid Dia with a champ like Voli and then tell me that gold/plat isnt WAY harder than Dia, especially in this RNG-Meta we have right now.

Deliberate Inter2 votes

Other players can coin flip, it doesn't mean YOU have to coin flip. It's simple enough to just consistently make the highest EV calls if you, yourself, recognize where EV is and can execute. You can't really argue in favor of the existence of ELO hell in a world where Elo boosters exist. And for the record, I could climb higher than your plateau with a 90% or better winrate on your server in 200 ping and i'm posting from an Iron 4 account so think on that

As for the salt? I am more of a happy / earnest and comfortable sort.

BigFBear3 votes

Only thing i say is that lower elo is harder than higher elo atm. At least for non hyper carrys. I got way more even games in Dia than in Gold/Plat. Idk why matchmaking is fucked up this way.

@ Elo boosters: An Elo Booster would boost with a hyper carry and not with a Voli.

Also: You and your loud mouth are a cringy joke. "90% on my Server yada yada..." If you consider that the best Voli Jungle in the world SirNordseeStyle (Grandmaster) cant even hit 90% in Dia4 with his Smurf (74% wr). But you can, ofc xD

I can see that you aren't a real Iron 4 by your Zed games, just a dumb troll. Maybe even from Master, idc. But you don't seem to play many Tanks/Juggs either. So maybe you have a different experience with your Assassins and Casters than people who playing supportish champs.

I would bet 100 Dollars that every tank Supporter from Dia+ would agree to me that Botlane in Dia is easier to play for them than botlane in Gold.

Deliberate Inter1 votes

Lower elo's arent harder for everyone, it's largely because of what and how you play that you are having more and different struggles but again, sample size of 1.

and no, any champion can boost.

And SirNordseeStyle isn't the best voli jungle in the world, he might be the best voli main but many players can voli better, and I claim yes, I definitely can but that doesn't concern you or anything we talked about here lol.

If it makes you feel better, I am a Vayne, Jinx and Kog three trick and play Kindred when auto filled jg.

BigFBear3 votes

This are just two examples from my way through Gold/Plat. Believe almost every game was like that:

https://abload.de/img/lolp9kbz.png elo difference: gold 2 to Plat 1 winrate difference: 38% to 84%

https://abload.de/img/lollose104kdy.jpg elo difference: gold 1 to Plat 1 winrate difference: 49% to 90%

i know "HIDDEN MMR" bla bla. But the problem here was that the players with 90% wr were master Smurfs or something and they deleted everything. The Algorithm just sucks this season. I never had such uneven games and i play since Season 3.

I dont have games like this in Dia. Its almost always even rank and winrate.

Deliberate Inter1 votes

It's not a product of the algorithm alone, it's also because you a method player and a small sample size on a volatile champion with a relatively one note kit. Match making is "Fine" and it always has been.

ÈvilMorty2 votes

my 1-10 adc last game i played flamed me for having a 46% win rate Its because i constantly get people like them on my team

eunekid4201 votes

{quoted} Its because i constantly get people like them on my team

Of course. How original.

This mindset is the source of all this crying about matchmaking. Do people ever consider that on average they indeed might be as bad as those 0-10 adcs? Not scorewise, but skillwise.

ÈvilMorty9 votes

why dont you look at my match history and see for yourself instead of just assuming.

ModAcademy Kayn2 votes

There is just 1 or 2 hardcore feeder in almost every game in lower elo (mostly because of bad matchmaking)

Why is the natural response to getting a feeder, is that it's because of bad matchmaking? Even people on your level of skill, or below for you since it's a smurf, can have a bad game, or sometimes their opponent is just better. If we had "Good" matchmaking, would feeders cease to be a thing? I don't understand this logic.

BigFBear5 votes

its because if you have high gaps between rank and winrate between the players in one match often a Gold1 with 90% winrate in 35 games plays vs a Plat2 with 50% winrate in 250 games. Ofc the Gold is a Smurf from whatever elo and deletes the Plat 2 almost every time.

Example from my games in Plat:

https://abload.de/img/lolp9kbz.png elo difference: gold 2 to Plat 1 winrate difference: 38% to 84%

https://abload.de/img/lollose104kdy.jpg elo difference: gold 1 to Plat 1 winrate difference: 49% to 90%

In Dia i dont have such big differences between players. Its almost everytime all the same rank and winrate.
