My problem isn't that you're buffing Yasuo, but

LegitBusinessman··63 votes·2,320 views

It's the amount of champs that have been sitting in the gutter forever that you do nothing about and never get any mention in patch notes.

I don't understand buffs to Yasuo, Galio, GRAGAS FFS IM TIRED OF SEEING THIS GUY BE META FOR YEARS STRAIGHT.

But what's infuriating is whenever someone like Udyr and post-rework Skarner creeped into LCS meta, you dropped them a peg in a matter of a few weeks.

champs sat in gutter forever

but suddenly everyone is thinking about them because Yasuo is getting a very minor buff.

what about like a month ago? why wasn't anyone thinking about skarner? why wasn't anyone posting about volibear when fiora/olaf got a buff 2 days before Yasuo?

Illâoi Evê Siôn24 votes

They are. Constantly. They just don't get as much support/recognition as Yasuo hate.

Skorch1 votes

I personally that thats more of an issue on the forums than Riot.

SURE Riot could probably do something to help REALLY struggling champs (Or hell maybe at least tell us WHY they are sitting there because i guarantee that they know where champs are sitting, who knows maybe its a small vgu reason i have no idea) but...

If they dont get as much recognition as Yasuo hate, then that falls on the people ON the boards to NOT let that happen. Downvote mindless upvote posts. Make posts about it. Upvote posts about it. Bring it up to people. Just saying "what can WE do if it gets no recognition" isnt doing anything.

Hügö8 votes

It's more the problem with what riot said about the buff "because he is popular".

Skorch1 votes

Another person taking it out of context... give me a moment.

"He's a champion that stands the test of time in regards to popularity even when he's weak. Meaning that the number of people playing Yasuo before/after preseason is probably actually roughly equal, only the version they're playing after is far weaker. This translates to more games with a Yasuo in them likely translating to a stomp for the team with a Yasuo on them, because even when they've mastered the champion over hundreds of games, they're "reward" is still losing over half their games, which bucks the trend of what you would expect from a mastery curve."

Listen im all for criticism on riot. If that criticism isnt based off something blatantly incorrect.

Hügö1 votes

And you just missed the comment everyone is referring to then. "Yasuo lost a fair bit of his power as we headed into the pre-season, and then got brought down further with Press The Attack nerfs last patch. Leaving him at 44-45% winrate feels quite awful for a champion that has one of the most dedicated playerbases"

Skorch1 votes

dedicated playerbases =/= popular. Dedicated playerbases means a lot of mains. And when not meta most of that playrate is a dedicated playerbase.

NOW when the entirety of a dedicated playerbase meaning they are playing a lot of said champion. And that champion has a high skill ceiling. BUT there is no reward in doing well because the champion is straight garbage. Theres an issue.

You know what that comment says. Mains of a champion, are getting no reward in learning their champion. Especially one that has a high skill ceiling.

That comment says nothing about him being buffed because "The populous are bitching he's weak"

It says nothing about "he didnt really need a nerf but hes popular.

Dedicated playerbase =/= popular.

And to be vulgar you gotta be jerking off that upvote button pretty fucking hard to read it as that.

Sorry to be such a dick but if you take something out of context to spin a narrative you dont deserve actual conversation. Come back when you ACTUALLY want to discuss balance and not just bitch and moan about something incorrect OR are just not stroking that upvote meter.

Jet Sett5 votes

Does that change what anyone is talking about? Perhaps the biggest issue some people have is that popular champions get what they need before any other champion regardless of how long said champs had an issue.

The Goat Tsar3 votes

Malicious Metal made Mordekaiser posts for months and everyone paid attention to those. Everyone except Riot, I mean.

Malicious Metal1 votes

Oh, they did pay attention to it. The things I suggested to change, like solo cast W, lower shield decay, more uses of E and a flattened out Q/dragon scaling were all things Riot changed in the following patches.

Riot does listen but in the end what they do with the feedback is up to them.

Funkin Dunkin1 votes

Skarner just needs a passive. That's right. A passive. One that isn't turned off by the enemy team. Imagine if Yasuo's crit/shield was preventable

leakinb10 votes

Skarner Mordekaiser still untouched while other champs with super low PR are receiving some buff

Hèntaî 1 votes

Imo morde is great as is. Once he gets going there is almost no stopping him

Sujiren8 votes

Skarner is a really bad example imo. The thing is ,Im pretty sure he is not even bad, but just unpopular, simply, because he is just not cool. The prerework Urgot had same issue, he was infact very soilid champion, but he just wasn't cool, looked like shit so noone played him, besides the few people that mained him.

The only reason someone would play skarner right now is if he was grossly overpowered, which is what Riot wants to avoid I think, so its better to just let him stay that way ,till he gets full rework.

Kaìju8 votes

The thing is, Skarner is very cool, it's just that him being cool doesn't outweigh people hating one his passive, and two that you can escape his R with Merc Scim/spell shields. He doesn't bring enough to the table to be worth it unless you play a fuck ton of him at which point putting the same dedication into a more relevant pick would be the wiser move.

Sexy Jack Rabbit10 votes

A depressed scorpion limited around crystals you have little control over isn't very cool.

People hate on his passive because it DOES suck. It's a viable passive but that doesn't mean it's a fun or interesting one.

Kaìju4 votes

I meant more just being a big ass angry scorpion made of rocks.

WE DON'T BALANCE BASED ON FAVORITES SHUT UP YOU'RE FRUSTRATING ME - riot lying to themselves and the rest of the world in their latest tantrum throwing on the boards.

Abibyama5 votes

Because usually these kind of champions will be grossly overpowered if they get buffs

SithesisLord11 votes

I mean, Karthus got buffed. And he got buffed in a way that wouldn´t seem to be much.

Thing is Riot treats some champions by nerfing or buffing them by a lot and other champions by nerfing or buffing them carefully when nerfing or buffing carefully should be the standard for EVERY champion.

Alderscroft2 votes

I wouldn't expect Riot to approach every champ the same way. Sure, there's almost 140 now, but approaching them all the exact same way would end up ruining any resemblance of balance (not like there's much right now anyway). Some champs need larger buffs than others, some champs feel a small buff more than another champ would.

I, for one, appreciate them trying to approach each champ individually rather than treating them all the same. That being said, they do need to work on a ton of stuff and I do hope we see something huge in 8.1.

Daunt2 votes

The thing is that some champions have toxic or outdated kits and need to stay in the gutter until their reworks. If you try to buff those kinds of champions they end up grossly overpowered for like a month or 2. Another reason why they're not changing them might be the fact that they don't have a solid direction in which they want to take the champion. I mean Skarner was changed to the point where he has special altars on the Rift. They can't really work on him without giving him a pretty big update. I actually wish more champions would stay in the gutter until Riot decides to rework them just because they end up ruining the game if they are even a little bit viable. And it makes Riot react faster to the problems slating these problematic champions up on the update schedule.

Also those buffs don't do a lot to Karthus. He has a lot of problems which can't be solved simply because he'd be too overwhelming to play against if he's good.

Enloct3 votes

That is exactly the problem with Yasuo though. There is no kit more toxic than his right now and only twice have there ever been. He needs the Poppy treatment - to be immediately gutted the second anyone finds a way to make him viable. None of this "every champion deserves to be viable" bullshit. They did it with Evelynn. They did it with Poppy. They need to do it with Yasuo.

Leave him at a permanent 30% winrate until they get be bothered to fix him.

Skorch1 votes

That my friend is an "OPINION" big word i know. A popular OPINION but one nonetheless.

Y'know it could be possible that Riot doesnt actually hate Yasuos kit. And sees it as fair counterplay.

Cavesloth1 votes

I believe that's the point. If they put half the effort into constantly buffing then nerfing yasuo, maybe they could actually FIX something, ya know as in, a more PERMANANT fix.

That and those champs are just as toxic when "meta" as yas is, but because he's more popular he gets a pass on the whole staying in the gutter business.

ModAcademy Kayn4 votes

Becaue Udyr is a stat checker, and Skarner has issues all unique to himself. Stop assuming that all champions are equal, they're not.

Mace Ventura3 votes

A lot of champions have issues that don't concern numbers. Skarner has terrible early ganks unless he blows his flash. Unless Riot reworks or updates him, making him viable would make him broken, because he'd need to do a shit load of damage or be an unkillable tank for that to happen.

Trínídaddy2 votes

wdym you dont understand buffs to galio? he's fucking awful right now. People dont know whether to build him bruiser, full AP or Tank. he has a 40% win rate in top lane, the LOWEST win rate top laner, and has a 45% win rate in mid lane with a 2% pick rate. Mains hate him because he literally loses almost every lane and cant hold himself up, and has become one of those niche champs that are good in some situtations

You're missing my point. I'm not saying Galio doesn't need help. My question is why, when he needs help, does he INSTANTLY get it, when he just spent how long being an top tier mid laner while there are others who have been waiting their turn for YEARS to get help.

Alex h87211 votes

imo the reason theyre paying more attention to galio is 2 fold. 1- he got his rework, so obviously they were focusing on him at that point. But after worlds because of the dominance of full tank galio they reworked his ratios (to reward him for building ap, and to make building 100% tank less rewarding), making him into more of an ap bruiser/ap diver than a tank, and they are still paying attention to him to try and tune that correctly.

On the other hand, the champs you brought up, voli, udyr, skarner, all have much older kits (like pre-rework galio had) with less counterplay for the opponent or skill expression for those champs, i think skarner has been worked on most recently of the 3, and because their kits are like that riot is waiting til they can put the resources towards reworks/vgus for those champs to modernize them rather than making changes to their existing, outdated kits that are not as in line w/ league of legends today.

I do understand, especially if you are a main or someone who really loves one of these older champs, the frustration of seeing more popular champions get worked on multiple times while your champ just kind of sits there, (Tbh i would LOVE too see a jax VGU/rework, 276k mastery on jax 1st champ i mained, because he's too simple imo, not saying he's bad but he's pretty much a stat check). But riot has been (slowly but surely) making progress toward updating these older champs, and eventually they will get to these meme team champs that have been left in the gutter (I hope).

Alex h87211 votes

Yeah :(, I love me some galio, since the rebalance to his ratios(and base damages) I have been playing him a lot. I generally go mid and full ap item 3027 item 3151 item 3089 and you are just deleting people, basically your full combo (E>W>Q>AA with passive) can kill anyone that hasn't built tanky. And the ult is still a great playmaking ability.

But because he's melee and because his base damages got lowered he just about autoloses lane unless he's against another melee that wants to scale up ( like Kassadin ). Its not quite as apparent in my elo (lower) because a lot of people don't understand the changes to galio, so they don't realize he lost a ton of power early, but against enemies who do realize this and play aggressive early vs galio the lane is really oppressive.

Can I get an uh.... Lissandra buff?

DracosKasu1 votes

Well they want to sell their new yasuo emote now avalaible in the pbe indeed they will buff him.

13900 Essence1 votes

Simple Answer: They were most recently in the minds of the players and therefore the players do not like when they get gutted, because it is easier to remember playing something like Gragas a few months ago, but really hard to remember playing Volibear several seasons ago.

There is also the fact that Galio and Gragas are on Kalista-post-season-6-nerfs but pre-late-season-7-buffs levels of trash. Literally the only champ below them right now that I'd consider Riot has forgotten about is Nunu.

JJI7441 votes

I'm a tad annoyed that its not just a buff to Yasuo, but one massive buff along with a couple of minor ones all at once.

Adding 20 base damage to an ability that crits 100% of the time midgame (with an IE bonus) and a 1 1/3s CD is insane. This is like tossing 20 damage onto Ryze Q. It may not sound like a major deal, but then you realize that he casts that spell several times in a fight, and it has a damage bonus.

MR+Ult range buffs seem reasonable, but definately shouldn't be accompanied by the massive Q buff.

IDK why Riot didn't try, the MR+ult buffs along with 5 damage onto Q. Not enough? Add 5 more next patch.

EDIT: As was pointed out below, the base damage can't crit, so not as large a buff as it seemed. Still substantial for a 1 1/3s CD spell.

Salron1 votes

Q base damage cant crit

JJI7441 votes

Ah, your correct, I misread the wiki when I checked. Still a rather large jump for a spell with such a short CD. Edited original post to note Q base damage doesn't add to crit damage.

Entheos Geon1 votes

Gragas is straight garbage right now, I wouldn't mind him getting some small buffs.

Someone said Skarner

Lit Corn1 votes

imho , udyr is ok and still has lots of otp , but skarner and volibear definetly need a rework , because their kits are entirely outdated , mostly with all those ridiculously high mobility new champs .

But what's infuriating is whenever someone like Udyr and post-rework Skarner creeped into LCS meta, you dropped them a peg in a matter of a few weeks.

Because both Skarner and Udyr were oppressive as fuck, especially in SoloQ, in which all you had to do is buy runic and iceborn and you are too fast to escape from, too fast to catch, and did a lot of damage and was hard to kill.

Similarly with Skarner.
