So MonteCristo was interviewed during the FNC EDG series
One of the questions/minor topics brought up was "adaptability to change in the meta" To which monte replied: "I think it's true (that teams will adapt)... that said I'm really not a fan of the massive patch change right before the world championship, I think it's pretty much bullshit that they would make such drastic sweeping changes, and have no competitive games up until the world championships so we don't even know what's broken and whats not, what needs fixing..." (he then takes a shot at riot about hosting the tournament.
Now I realise that Monte isn't everyone's favourite guy, but is he wrong? Red side for the most part of this tournament has pretty much only had 1 ban to work with due to necessity to ban Gangplank and Mirdekaiser. Every team that had the choice in the quarterfinals so far has elected to play on blue side.
Personally, I don't think it's possible for this game to be balanced for both solo Q and professional play at the same time the way it currently operates. We've seen this many times already through Azir nerfs, Darius being somewhat mediocre at worlds in a patch where he was ripping solo Q apart, the massive champion diversity at worlds while Vayne is all we see in solo Q, which is the exact opposite of the tank meta where solo Q was actually bearable for the first time in a while, but professional play was a continuous recycle of 12 or so champions.
