Abyssal Scepter gutting; Thoughts on?

As an avid fan and person-that-constantly-builds-it.... I find the gutting of the item to be a terrible decision.

It is meant to be an early game rush item that yields a great competitive edge, falling off later in the game compared to other purchases. Shifting its power to a late game item completely misses the point and will make it superfluous at best and pure unmitigated garbage at worst.

10% CDR is not worth the increase in cost and loss of early game damage.

its not getting gutted. its a problem now in mid that every ap mid laner rushes it to beat the other ap mid laner. its too strong early game. hell even champs that ever don't get close to get the magic penetration build it often as well. to me i see it as a buff. 10% cdr and better late game. ok not enhancing waveclear. it deserved a nerf

Exactly this.

I hate the current item because everyone just builds it to basically win the lane. Playing against an assassin? Rush Abyssal to stop them from being able to kill you easily. Playing as an assassin? Rush Abyssal anyway to stop your opponent poking you while still getting a great damage boost.

That's entirely the point of the item.

Removing its raison d'etre .... well, it removes its reason to exist (Hue).

That is probably the best argument. Maybe gutting it was necessary.... but it's a pretty huge nerf to a whole class of characters.

yeah but you think an item should exist that wins you lane basically. this and maw getting a lot of attention from riot now. I mean. zhonyas is more of an item you use in a specific moment. not an item that gives you better defense and combat at the same time

That's correct. Maw of Malmortius deserved a nerf, Abyssal did not.

i mean she can one shot with just a fendish codex. lb herself needs some down tuning from riot but its probably not gonna happen.

My biggest problem with the change is some champs needed it to survive early game match ups. It was also a good go-to item if you feel behind early.
