at least you can stack health against him. meanwhile vayne.

like what? yi has to get into melee range of you to do anything. he cant hide behind a support, like vayne does, neither can he kick you around with condemn or go invisible to kite you around.

yi is probably one of those champions with the highest skillcaps in the game. he has to time alpha strike absolutely perfectly every time to dodge the right abilities, or he just blows up. no matter how much damage he deals.

yi is more vulnerable than vayne in a fight and his true damage has limited duration and can be dealt with by stacking health.

a good yi can be incredibly effective, but is far more difficult to pull off than his ranged counterparts.

General Spacey4 votes

Plus, after the 5 seconds of the wuju style buff, he loses a whole ton of AD(approximately 10% + - scaling)

Lord Whatsisface4 votes

Any fight with a Yi in it won't last more than 5 seconds.

Plus resets.

Then you realize he has BoTRK and Sated Devourer, and Wuju style activated, and he can negate your armor and shred your health freely so long as he's in auto-attack range.

3TWarrior8 votes

vayne can and will use that as well...

she has a gapcloser/escape every 3 seconds, can invis for assassination or escapes, can knock away anyone near her if they even think they're going to get a kill and can stun

master yi can do a ton of damage in his initial combo, but if he doesn't get a kill, his reset is going to be the end of him

LankPants5 votes

A healthy mix of HP and Armour is quite effective VS Yi.

If you have something like item 3143 , item 3075 , item 3047 , item 3800 (all very good tank items) then you can fight a Yi fairly well.

Feathermane3 votes

As what? A full build Singed with all of the items you listed gets 4-shot by Yi.

LankPants3 votes

As what? A full build Singed with all of the items you listed gets 4-shot by Yi.

Any tank including but not limited to Singed as well as a good chunk of bruisers like Irelia and Jax. (although they would probably not have a Glory)

People are overestimating this item. Yi literally cannot 4 shot a full build tank Singed even with the most damage heavy build imaginable. This item adds around 50 extra true damage per attack on average, a little more if Yi goes super AD heavy, which isn't actually what makes it strong on Yi, but it seems to be what everyone is complaining about.

Yi still has the exact same problems that have always plagued him though, namely that he's fucked if any CC lands on him in a fight and he can't do anything to anyone with a thornmail.

Feathermane5 votes

Tanks cannot duel a lategame Yi. Champions like Maokai or Braum stand absolutely no chance and get destroyed in seconds.

LankPants2 votes

Not necessarily duel, more lock up long enough for their team to kill Yi with a low threat of Yi being able to kill them if the stun lock wears off.

You'll find a lot of champs can be countered with a bit of teamwork.

Bellows4 votes

And thats why they made Tahm, the tank that can shitt on yi with double health and cc if he dares come to close. <3 TahmKench

Seriously though, yi should stay away from tahm, he IS the cc, just pop that shield and eat him, then your team has yi in the bag pretty much.

Never challenge the river king!

LordGeovanni1 votes

tanks shouldnt be able to duel anyone your point is. if you got killed by a tank its cause you didnt run

Celeste Benal1 votes

Because True Damage care about Thornmail. Because item 3153 cares about HP.

gaby1best4 votes

You all forget Yi is a melee adc. an adc's job is to melt tanks while being a glass cannon. So stop bitching about Yi killing tanks easily. Yes, Sated Devourer is overpowered, but do you really want to kill that kawaii purple wolf? item 3070 item 3070

stacking anything against Yi will amount to about 2 seconds extra against him late game. he rips anyone apart at that point even before this patch i was yi full build against a 4000 HP, 400 armor maokai lategame. i didn't even have last whisper and he died in 4 seconds. although i lived with only 100 hp thanks to his thornmail lol

KONO RUBICK DA1 votes

thornmail increase your armor which reduce the hp damage AND the lifesteal, get it? it also reflect 30% of the damage done AND MASTER YI has less hp then you, he will simpely die.

true damage thornmail gives you no health

RIPxMidnight5 votes

Maybe they should rework him.

Or nerf him.

Or nerf him again.

But no, even then he'd probably keep his style.

Anidan2 votes

Why is the answer to everything a rework?

iamleburk3 votes

because thats how you solve the problem of a bad kit. whether his kit is bad enough for a rework or not is up for debate.

Anidan2 votes

My only problem with that solution is that used too much it starts to become a crutch that can always be raised as an option. Look at how many champions are told they need reworks on a weekly basis. Problem champions don't include as many people as the forums say it does. "Their kit just plain can't be balanced, they need a rework."

Don't get me wrong, some champions absolutely needed it, but when you start bringing up Fizz, for example, simply because his kit is frustrating then you lose the point of the reworks, because there's more that goes into the decision than "Is he frustrating to play against? If yes, rework."

Also, this isn't meant to insinuate that you believe that that is all it takes for him to receive a rework, but a large amount of people do, so I'm sorry if it comes off as me believing you're that type of person.

Remlap12231 votes

Here's the thing, this isn't DOTA.

This game isn't balanced around counterpicks, at least not anymore.

Basically, it really doesn't matter if Yi has counterpicks, because if you don't counterpick him, he's going to make your life miserable.

Same goes for Akali Annie Blitzcrank Cassiopeia Darius Fiora and the list goes on and on.

The problem with these champions aren't the fact that they carry hard, or can be insanely potent in the right hands, but the fact that they're so binary.

You counter Darius? He's going to be miserable the entire game.

Darius counters you? You're going to be miserable the entire game.

Honestly, the best example of perfect amounts of counterplay is the matchup between Caitlyn and MissFortune.

Both have clearly exploitable weaknesses that each of them can capitalize on, and the match-up is 100% skill based.

Now, not every champ is going to work that well. But even in instances where a champion has an edge over another one, it still is skill dependent.

For example, I main Gangplank. I am perfectly ok with laning against a Pantheon. I am not ok with laning against a Fiora.

With Pantheon, I know that if I make smart descions, I'll eventually outscale him, and probably be able to kill him if I'm more skilled with GP than my opponent is with Pantheon. There's a possibility there.

With Fiora, I know that if I make smart decisions, at best I'll be able to farm effectively under tower, and at worst I'll feed her horribly. Out of the couple dozen or so matchups I had specifically against Fiora, I've only truly won one of them, and that's because my opponent was wickedly inexperienced with her, while I have pretty much gotten GP mastered.

Teal Deer: Reworks aren't just thrown around, they're used for the most egregious of balance problems this game has or has had (see AP Master YI, old Critplank, old Soraka). Riot doesn't rework because they just feel like it, they do it because there's literally no other option. Soraka was always going to be useless or the unstoppable lane freezer. Gangplank was always going to be the level 1 insta win or run OOM cheeseball. AP Master Yi was never going to go away unless he was reworked.

iamleburk1 votes

It also might have to do with the amazing quality of reworks to come out of riot recently. Everyone wants a chance to have their champion Sion'ed or Ashe'd or maybe even Ryze'd at the risk of it being Cassiopia'd.

A kit is healthy when it can be buffed or nerfed into a viable state just by sheer numbers without being oppressive. This usually means a lot of power but a lot of counter play. Perhaps we have too many kits that do not fit this criteria, and thats why so many reworks are called for. I agree frustrating to play against is not a good enough reason to rework... but i believe Riot has shown that they believe it IS a good reason for a rework or at least a nerf. So now the goal for a rework is fun to play as, fun (or at least able) to play against, viable. Riot has opened the door for anyone who believes that a champion does not fit those three things should be reworked.

Well at least thats my theory

Critmaster Garen5 votes

ok, the thing to mention is probably, that yis window of dealing true damage only lasts a couple of seconds. after that, his damage actually even drops off when his e is on cooldown.

so if you manage to bait out alpha strtike first and then disengage, you buy a little time for his e to run out. then you should easily be able to turn on him and kill him. and regular armor/hp items work against him.

its also harder for him to fight in 5v5's due to all the aoe damage and cc flying around. he excells in 1v1 situations, so grouping up with your team goes a long way.

AbodyHUN6661 votes

The problem is, most of the time he flanks while his tanks engage to assasinate the enemy carries. This way you can't really bait his wuju style out.

Shïren4 votes

this has happened before the new devour. His true damage will always outweigh his regular damage

EDIT: people don't play this game much I take it. FYI, that ie crit, gets nomed by armor. the true damage, can easily outscale your REGULAR damage. Against a squishy hell nah, but against a bruiser, yeah it will. just look at their death log when they die. Ask them for it for those who are fairly dumb.
