I think it's interesting. It's like when riot repertoir was active on the boards and being praised for his level of communication, and then disappeared to never return after his disastrous reworks.

Only some of them were disastruous, while others have been excellent.

Hello I am Bird3 votes

Pretty sure Darius was the only good one... Skarner was a mess, nothing was really fixed with Garen, and... Well we don't talk about mord

Mordepool3 votes

CertainlyT was in charge of Morde. He cut and ran at the 1 st sign of civiled criticism. Repertoire was in charge of Garen. Not sure who did Darius or skarner

XIII Vanitas2 votes

Darius, Skarner and Garen were reworked by Repertoir.

crippler386 votes

wasn't repertoire in charge of Taric?

Taric who is now amazing?

Tobias Brackner3 votes

Skarner is awesome, it just needs the team to pay a little more attention to the magic rocks.

Faustavian3 votes

Not even, follow-up would be excellent.

XIII Vanitas1 votes

Skarner is far from being a mess and Mordekaiser was reworked by CertainlyT, not Repertoir.

i can at least give solcrushed props for being so responsive on the sejuani PBE thread, though the rioters on zac and maokai have let me down

PeepingPeafowl8 votes

The silence on anything relating to Zac or Maokai has been pretty upsetting to be honest. Maybe I'm missing it but nothing has been said about them here and questions have been left unanswered.

TheSingularity5 votes

Agreed. As an individual concerned with zacs final form, I'm infuriated by the absence of ANY zac comments by riot. Nothing on regular boards and nothing on PBE boards.

I view this as a case of vk/kog syndrome. "We know exactly what we're doing and we know that you WILL like it. That is our alternative fact "

Hello I am Bird2 votes

Well, tbf, I really do like the new Zac I don't feel like he needed an update, but I think that hit new abilities fit him pretty well, and his ult could create some amazing wombo combo effects

XIII Vanitas1 votes

Dude, come on, you don't even play Zac... http://championmasterylookup.derpthemeus.com/summoner/?summoner=hello%20i%20am%20bird&region=NA

How can you appreciate the changes if you don't even know what you had before?

Hello I am Bird1 votes

I have played zac Doesn't mean I'm a zac main or anything, but I have played him enough to know his q was a bit silly and his ult was underwhelming

Riot still only talks about stuff they WANT to talk about, and refuse to address long-standing concerns. It's a step in the right direction, but they have a LONG way to go before I will be remotely "impressed" with how much they are communicating.

If anything, Riot should consider hiring a dedicated player-relations specialist for the Boards. Probably two or three even, people whose entire job consists of combing through threads, finding the one's with healthy constructive dialogue and/or questions, and GETTING THOSE ANSWERS TO PLAYERS. 8 hours a day, every day.

TyrekGoldenspear2 votes

Man I wish I was paid to peruse the boards.

My dream job...

Silverjust1 votes

Thats a great Idea, but this player-relations specialists should also work on the game, so they know whats going on

I disagree, as the two jobs require entirely different skillsets.

In my mind, a player-relations specialist is someone with a degree is communications and strong interpersonal skills. Their job would entail not just combing forums for topics of discussion, but tracking down the Rioters involved in/directly related to those topics, sitting in on meetings, and making damn sure that the message going from Riot to the public is a universal one. We're talking about someone who spends their entire day running around gathering information from in-company and then delivering to players in a concise manner.

These are not skills a game developer has. This is a job for a people person.

RIOT communication has been really good.

The boards still rake them over the coals regularly (that will probably never change), but RIOT has been communicating better than ever. Good job RIOT.

It's interesting. That being said it's not been perfect across the board (Not that it should be all the time) But the skins team in particular was awful when it came to communication last patch.

There was one post about Dark Star Orianna and then nothing up until 2 - 3 days before the end of the patch for DS Kha'zix. They've been dead silent on any of the VFX for Sejuani, Maokai and Zac's skins as well.

We didn't even get a Zac feedback thread.

Taking that in mind, the skins team is always a lot less communicative then say the balance teams.

Darkdemon6533 votes

While it's nice, communication works only if they take what we say into consideration. If they just tell us what's coming and ignore everything we say, that communication is pointless at best and a slap in the face of the community at worst.

FiddlesOnTheRoof3 votes

I just want to hear from them regarding their gutting Malz, and I'll be happy.

Murl0ugh3 votes

They'll stop again in a week after dealing with this shitfest of a community. (Read: NOT EVERYONE)

90% of the posts here are solely directed at Riot telling them how stupid and incompetent they are. I wouldn't waste my energy communicating with that either.

The haters don't realize how lucky they are.

Shadow Hazard3 votes

I think meddler is the true mvp with his quick gameplay thought post. All the other post are still in the style of we will take your comments in sure but these changes are going through no matter what.

TyrekGoldenspear2 votes

Yeah it's pretty cool to see.

Btw, does this mean you're back on the boards? Been seeing you more and more.

Marshbouy3 votes

sadly yes. I burned out on the games I was playing and came back to this one.

Yes.

I think the communication on ARAM is looking good, but communication on more general gameplay changes, particularly champion reworks, is still spotty. Sure, we're getting these threads announcing imminent changes, and sometimes you'll see some number adjustments pinned down to player feedback, but I have yet to see a single instance of a Rioter implementing major changes to their rework, let alone rolling back a "serious" update in part or in its entirety, from that same feedback. Heimerdinger's changes aren't on the PBE yet, so I can't comment on how they'll evolve, but the Big 3 in the Tank update have received extensive and intense feedback, along with suggestions on how to improve, yet their kits have remained locked in place. It's not quite Mordekaiser levels of pigheadedness, but it's not really major progress either. To this day, PBE still mostly feels like just a testing ground for bugs, rather than any sort of meaningful qualitative gameplay assessment, so even if some "tentative" changes might not always make it to Live, it mostly feels like those decisions are made purely at the devs' discretion, rather than as a result of player feedback.

Sad Tyrant2 votes

nope because they refuse to talk about Zac or Maokai, unless it was a Bug

Edge of Daybreak1 votes

Not really loving the aram one tbh. They are basically telling us we are changing things we want to change but still ignoring every problem that we are actually asking them to fix. Kind of a one way discussion. The heimer changes one is cool but why didnt they do this for the tank updates?

Looknook1 votes

I think they had a staff meeting of some kind.

Mordepool1 votes

In one of Meddler gameplay thoughts he asked if they should keep talking about future work or not their was an overwhelming Yes

Azureee1 votes

Not rly liking that the only communication regarding LeBlanc, Malz and Rengar is "Soon" .

Theorchero1 votes

It's pretty nice.

Don't fuck this up, guys.

SirTeemoMushroom1 votes

they are doing this since season 1 boards.. what are you talking about ? also they commented on 5/10.000 posts so what ?

SweedishGunner1 votes

They're talking now but we've hardly had anything on the whole Malz situation despite hundreds of threads about him.

paisy1 votes

You're never the only one

SarcasticShepard1 votes

Given past experience, they'll do the equivalent of talking about the weather while blithely ignoring comments that their car is rolling down the street because they forgot to engage the parking brake.

Blakiepug1 votes

It's nice to see them being more transparent, but I wish sometimes they would be a little more openly critical of some things that didn't turn out as well as hoped. I remember reading through their nexus article reviewing the new champs and class reworks that were released last year and the whole thing was just like a gush fest with very few criticisms of what didn't go so well and where they could improve.

XIII Vanitas1 votes

Yeah, I'm loving it as well. Those Maokai and Zac update thread were amazing and really insightful. /s
