Do people actually have fun getting slaughtered?

JavelinJoe··16 votes·1,646 views

To those of you who are always say you are suppose to have fun playing this game mode, are you really having fun in a game with no chance of your side winning, or even living for more than 1 second in combat? Idk what at all is fun about that. Can someone please explain their logic in this? If we are in URF and down to inhib towers before 10 minutes and we have yet to damage one of their outer towers, why is it bad to not want to waste you time in that game?

some people have a mindset of, even losing is a lesson, just the process of learning and improving, trial and error.

here in league acadamy we use the proper term for such a thing, "gitting gud". Fiora

It's the one place where silvers actually do damage so yes they do have fun

It's called being a masochist.

Over 90% of the players in League of Legends are actually masochists. In every normal/ranked game you play, there will always be a masochist in that game. These masochists are obviously portrayed as "feeders" in these games, but other players who aren't feeders may also be a masochist. The reason they don't seem like one is because they carry the burden of their team with them. Little do they know that the majority of the players are masochists, but they have the mindset that this person carrying the burden is the only masochist in the game. With this burden, they dare not reveal their inner selves as a masochist, but instead wear a fake personality of taking the game seriously. That is where URF comes in. In this game mode, players can relieve their stress of carrying their daily burdens and show everyone just how much of a masochist they are.

So to answer your question, yes, they enjoy being slaughtered.

No, nearly no one enjoys being stomped, or I hope not.

And that's the reason why all random urf is so bad. If this is the original urf, where both teams get to pick their comfort and/or op champions, you won't be slaughtered all the way.

Yes, you'll still be slaughtered, cuz your opponents are op champs, but you'll have your share of slaughtering as well because you'll be just as op. That's why it was fun, both sides have times when they stomp and times when they get stomped in the same game. But now, it's complete luck of whether you're suffering or not. I don't encourage it nor do it myself, but that's one big reason why ppl dodge the moment they see their team comp in champ select.

actually I was always slaughtered because I like to play more then the top 18 OP in normal urf so whenever I would try a different champions I would get roflstomped, and that happened every game because blind pick, at least in arurf you get a chance to have a fun even match where you get to see more than 18 champions.

I don't know what ARURF you have been playing but I can never describe it with a sentence containing "chance" and "even" unless the words "is not at any point close to being" is in between them.

Also, I notice a lot of games have reoccurring OP champions. Likely due to both FotW priority (which IDK why RIOT would give them it if they did) and ARURF only accounts.

We should definitely get reduced surrender time. EDIT: for URF specifically; I'm not saying anything about normal SR.

Mighty Mortein3 votes

OCE is testing that, but since 5 solos never seem to agree (since all 5 people have to say yes for the 15 min surrender). Everyone has to be that hero. "Oh, but we have late game!" While the enemies are taking our inhib towers and we're down 30 kills.

50000000000000002 votes

Wait, I thought this post was about URF. I meant URF should have a reduced surrender time.

MrWasjig2 votes

Don't you think that's just indicative of a larger problem?

"Games are being decided too soon, so how do we fix this? Oh I know! Earlier surrender!" What?! That's a terrible idea, and the fact Riot is actively looking to add this to the game really shows they don't give a shit about the state of the game and how fast games are being outright decided...

50000000000000002 votes

URF is a fast paced game mode, so it makes sense games are decided earlier.

JavelinJoe1 votes

Games are even sometimes decided before the first minions even reach the mid way point.

Wait, we were talking about URF this whole time? Well shit, now I feel a bit silly [zombie-brand-facepalm]

Is there no such thing as fun nowadays? Are you all so hungry for glory? So what if your team is 95% likely to lose, just try to squeeze out as much fun as you can and those that can actually do this are the real sportmans in my eyes. If there was no loss then there would be no gain i.e. if there was no light there would be no darkness. We can always learn from our loss even if it predominantly was because of other team mates, actually you're more likely to learn from your loss than wins. Although in ranked where more than 50% of one's purpose is to climb, it can get frustrating if you're unable to do so due to your incompetent team mates. Still i would say try to enjoy the game and downvote me at the same time :D

He's talking about URF stomps, not proper games. You can learn a lot from losses in the regular gamemodes and some of the featured ones, and there are even some lessons to be learned in URF, but there is nothing to be learned from "I lost lane automatically because I was against 80% CDR Jayce".

You have no idea what the guy is complaining about at all. He never said there wasn't fun to be had in losing or that winning was all he cared about, he said that there is no fun to be have in an URF roflstomp where you have absolutely no power to change how the game is going. Your motivational speech does not apply at all.

mb i thought it was about rift in general. Although i do believe that he mentioned " game modes" and not specifically URF mode at the start. So he is talking about any game mode where you have no chance of having a comeback and the fact that its better to surrender i.e. "not waste time". Now note that he said there is no fun when you're badly losing thus he is already implying that the fact he has fun is dependent on if he is winning or losing the current game. This directly applies to my comment which specifically mentions that you can just play for fun and even if you're losing then you can still learn from it and think of it as part of life cycle (light/darkness example). Just that i believe ranked can be frustrating but even then its statistically better to carry on playing in the hope of winning than wasting guaranteed LP and trying your luck next game to gain that LP back. Trying to play for fun is seriously the best way to climb and obviously everyone plays to win but if you just start giving up without even losing then you have already lost.

Korijenkins1 votes

Probably not, hence the outcry on the forums all day about how bad the random element in urf is. Yes its bad. Yes they shouldn't have made it random. I think they know that now.

JavelinJoe1 votes

Doubt it, they never seem to

Dynikus1 votes

yeah, I'm having a blast actually. It's nice seeing fairly diverse champions in URF. Considering the queue times haven't gone down at all, which I can't say the same about urf before it was random, I'd say most people agree. It's just a vocal minority that can't appreciate the game mode for what it is and are too concerned with winning that have a problem with urf being random.

The game is as fun as the people in it. If you're with or against really serious players that treat it like their 5th game in ranked promos, it probably won't be as fun. Don't treat it like ranked.

Came thinking this was a damage complaint about normal ranked SR... Was disappointed

RavenMagus1 votes

There's a few really toxic champions in URF that are just no fun to play against, and Lethality tilts the game meta a little too hard too (Edge of Night is seriously WAY too good in Urf).

But if you're not against one of those few champs, it's actually pretty fun. Mage vs Mage can be pretty exciting if you're both skillshot reliant.

SEKAI1 votes

What's there to rage about if you didn't lose because of complete un-deal-able BS (comparatively) or something along those lines?

Most games have a win and a lose state, someone's gotta lose, so there is really not much reason to throw a fit over every loss, because you'll be depressed all year.

I mean, do you cry over a coin flip game because you got it wrong, or do you cry over losing whatever game you've played with friends? Same deal.

MrHaZeYo1 votes

Sometimes you get slaughtered, sometimes you do the slaughtering, this has never changed.

grug1 votes

Do people have fun sucking at this game? 80% of ranked is in bronze+ silver so i believe the answer is yes.

Ackelope1 votes

of course most people suck compared to the tiny few above the lower masses, but the sheer amount of people that are in the lower divisions counters that and makes it easy for people to convince themselves that they're decent and do well frequently, since they're in an environment with a LOT of people on a similar level. not quite the same as enjoying getting slaughtered imo

deadlychuck1 votes

To be fair, the higher elos are pretty dull.

The disparity in power between the tiers of champions and the optimized builds is too great to really do anything interesting. Granted i don't play ranked, but generally playing against plat players, it's pretty boring seeing them copy past the best builds from a website.

AmazoX1 votes

Whatever state the game is in, Balanced or not, Without a doubt, I love it & it's totally fun.

It's not like Riot Games are ignoring all the problems, Nerfs people have been asking are already hitting Live Servers sooner or later.

Melledoneus1 votes

People like to give it their all when they play a game sometimes. Even when victory seems impossible, they strive to achieve the implausible because the game is not over until the nexus explodes.

Now, if the game is insufferably one-sided and my team has given up, I'll spare them.

KakitaMike1 votes

I watched a game this morning, and one team's adc and support stole the enemy red at the start, and like, a minute later, the enemy team just opened mid. The score was 0 - 3. That seemed like a very short time for a game to be decided in.

JavelinJoe2 votes

Sometimes if a jungler has a very bad first clear (like this one) they really cannot come back from it especially if the other has a significant lead. Not to mention the bot lane advantage that they now were against.

deadlychuck1 votes

Apparently. People still play this game. Not even talking about URF, it's rare to not see a game that is slaughter or get slaughterer.
